60 yrs on, Untouchability still alive and kickin in india

Dalits are hindus .... what makes you think otherwise ..... it is like blaming Taliban activites in Shias ... hope this help.

Aren't you an Indian who is so concerned about Pakistanis that he spends hours on a Pakistani message board???

The reason most of the Indians post here is because of the concerns about the terror threat from Pakistani territory ....... the day Dalit problem in India becomes a threat to Pakistan ... well you surely should discuss that. Right now the groups that are responsible for terrorist actions in Pakistan have links to groups that have created terror in India. So you see if the people of Pakistan had been vocal about taking actions against these groups ..... they would not have to suffer what they are suffering now !!!!

Hope better sense prevails and action in taken against these groups.

It is you who gave the hint that Dalits are not hindus, now, what about ur other comment,
They are not dalits who are bombing or being bombed . !!!!!!
So it was hindu who was bombed by hindu??? or is there something else

They are terror organisation who are trying to use terror tactics to further their ideology .... the Indian state is very clear... anyone induldging in terror acts needs to be acted upon ... irrespective of who they are and what they are ..... law should take it s course. Unlike in the some countries where the state is not clear on what the policy is !!!!!

Yes i know countries like India are not clear what to do in this kind of Situation, they cannot blame it on others, and they do not like to admit that they have a problem...

On the contrary ... Indian is very clear on what needs to be done ......where the problem is internal ... it has acted on that ... if the problem has an external element...... then it has acted on that .

The external cases would be in recent history .... Kashmir & Punjab. Again in case of Punjab .... Pakistanis are on record as to how they helped stop the trror groups being supported by Pakistan. Recently in Kashmir ..... Pakistan state is on record that action i9s being taken against terror group operating in Kashmir and this has led to reduction in voilence to a great extent.

:rotfl: Wah!

These troublesome neighbors will never let us live in peace!

You owned him here man!

LOL!

You must be one of those voices within Pakistan who are bring exposed … i hope you do realize that 89% of the Pakistanis are against the use of their country for attacks against India and Afghanistan. And almost 90% believe that “religious” extremism is a serious problem for Pakistan. Now i know there isn’t much of “hindu” extremism in Pakistan so my guess would be … you know who.

http://www.iri.org/mena/pakistan/pdfs/2009_October_1_Survey_of_Pakistan_Public_Opinion_July_15-August_7_2009.pdf

^^ What has this all to do with the fact that scores of indians are abandoned by their own kind and hence have to spend HOURS after HOURS EVERY DAY on Pakistani forums?

You should learn to respect your hosts and stop being irritants.. bad mannered guests!

But then... you are indians, the worst neighbor in the world!

LOL.

Are you ignorant

You certainly are delusional .... this is not "Pakistani" territory .... this is a place where we are exchanging comments .... having a discussion. Gets a better understanding of each others view points. Now i dont know you are capable of understanding that .... but i surely have felt a better understanding of each others position ... and mind you the host for this perhaps might be US :D

So Pakistanis start a service for Pakistanis, so that they could virtually sit together, discuss their issues, find some solutions and indian intruders (many of them even too ashamed of their indian nationality, and hence trying to pretend being Pakistani) come to derail and hijack every discussion and then have the guts to say it is not a "Pakistani territory".

LOL. What a logic!
Don't you have your own problems that need a quick fix? Why don't you go to indian forums to discuss those first?

As I said before the indian mindset can not be changed overnight.
You are the worst neighbors in the world for a reason !!!!

Re: 60 yrs on, Untouchability still alive and kickin in india

Nepal shows the way how it is done… to get rid of inhuman caste system…

Recognize caste as discrimination: US rights body - India - The Times of India
*…]
HRW backed the statement made earlier this month by the UN commissioner for human rights, Navi Pillay, saying that “the time has come to eradicate the shameful concept of caste,” and called on the international community to come together “as it did when it helped put an end to apartheid.” She argued that “other seemingly insurmountable walls, such as slavery and apartheid, have been dismantled in the past” and concluded that “we can and must tear down the barriers of caste too.” A key step for caste-affected countries, HRW said, is to adopt UN principles and guidelines on caste discrimination — the first comprehensive UN framework to prevent and address this serious human rights problem.

 • *During the latest UNHRC session, Nepal broke ranks with India and described the guidelines against caste discrimination as a “good reference” and “useful tools” to complement the efforts made nationally. ***"

**Well done Nepal! :k:

Once again half baked knowledge on issue at hand … caste discrimination is punishable under Indian constitution … a memeber of any caste can become Pm or President … which is not the case in some countries … talk about discrimination !!!

^^ So do you not agree that Nepal did a noble thing by describing the guidelines against caste discrimination as a "good reference" and "useful tools" to complement the efforts made nationally. ?

we are bad bad hindus.

but you dont tell me what you have actually achieved in 1400 years agains untouchability…

Sure they did a noble thing ...... they perhaps felt the need to get this help in their efforts for removing caste discrimination. On the other hand India has taken a number of measures to right from start in 1947 agaisnt caste based discrimination.

Just to cite an example .... there have been instances of racial discrimination in US .... but surely you won't term US as a racist country !!!!!!

Well here is an interesting read to answer this “We have a chief justice from Dalits” thing:

Cook out: The Caste Paradox - Edit Page - Opinion - Home - The Times of India

*“I have a problem. The maid we got has been disapproved by the family because she comes from a lower caste. What should one do?” a friend SMSed. “I just don’t understand how it matters!” I retorted in irritation. ''Please relax or else give up the idea of having a maid in the house." I probably gave him the impression of not empathising enough with his peculiar plight, so he never filled me in with any details on the fate of that teenager. I spoke to him a few days later and he said, among other things, “You know, it’s a landmark for our country that we have our first woman Speaker in Parliament, and to top it all”, he continued to gush, “she comes from a Dalit family.” I thought yes, of course. I ultimately put forth the obvious question, **“But what about your maid?” “Oh, you know, mom wouldn’t have allowed her to enter the kitchen. For two days she sat doing nothing. So, we had to ask her to leave. Her mother came that evening and took her away,” he broke the oh-so-expected news. **

This was, to use the cliche, one of the examples of the great Indian paradox of casteism. And my mind hovered to other paradoxes we keep encountering every day. The paradox of racism when our students in Australia are attacked, it sparks up a huge racism and ethnicity debate, while if we target Biharis in Maharashtra, it’s standing up for the rights of Marathas. Of course, there is always the great debate over what is truly feminist: ensuring reservation for women in Parliament or rejecting gender-based quotas. There was a bigger paradox in waiting, though. I visited a bureaucrat who happens to come from one of the scheduled castes a couple of days ago. Incidentally, the same friend was with me, comfortably sipping tea and sharing snacks from a common plate. While we were sitting and chatting, the cook turned up and it was obvious that he came from an upper caste, as he was being addressed as Panditji. Clearly, a Dalit had no objection in employing an upper caste cook. I wondered on my way back why it is that while it’s fine to be a Dalit Speaker or chief justice or president, it’s still not acceptable to be a Dalit and get employment as a cook.
