Pakistan (probable): Yasir Hameed, Shahid Afridi, Younis Khan, Mohammad Yousuf, Shoaib Malik (capt), Misbah-ul-Haq, Kamran Akmal (wk), Abdur Rehman, Umar Gul, Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad Asif
**
South Africa (probable):** 1 Graeme Smith (capt), 2 Herschelle Gibbs, 3 Jacques Kallis, 4 AB de Villiers, 5 Justin Kemp, 6 Albie Morkel, 7 Mark Boucher (wk), 8 Shaun Pollock, 9 Andre Nel, 10 Johan Botha, 11 Makhaya Ntini.
Pakistan will have to win this game, Otherwise It’s gonna be very bad losing Test & ODI Series on home ground. I think we should play both Tanveer and Akhtar. I would consider dropping Asif, he didn’t look fit at all during 4th ODI, He was struggling badly and should be ‘rested’ for the this game just because it is an important game.
Re: 5th ODI: Pakistan v South Africa on 29 Oct 2007 @ Lahore
I would definetly pick Rao for this game. He has the most wickets so far in this tournament and his line and length bowling has been excellent. He along with Rehman, and Afridi have done a good job in the middle overs tying down the strong SA batting line up. If anyone, I'd drop Gul as has been the least impressive so far even though he has been fairly decent.
Hameed also needs the boot...I've been saying this for a while and I stil, stand by it, Hameed is not the answer to opening woes. He has struggled on these flat pitches against quality bowling, he will get murdered on SA and Aussie pitches. I'd play Nazir in this game...because he is a gamble but it'll be worth it considering the form of all our openers. If he clicks, that gives Pakistan a clear edge. I'd open with Nazir and Akmal and save Afridi for the lower order.
Re: 5th ODI: Pakistan v South Africa on 29 Oct 2007 @ Lahore
rao is been economical and all but we need a wicket taker, a scare for batsmen. gul and asif to open bring shoaib as 1st change. seems awsome bowling lineup, now lets wait till they perform. and for batting who cares. swing the lumber boys.

Rao is a good bowler and must be used as a second attack, Gul was good in the test series, he should be bring as a first change when the ball gets older a little bit.
Hameed technically a very good player should be given another couple of chances becoz our openers were struggling badly. His average is 38 ODI's, Since Imran Nazir has stuck on 24 which is not a very good average for any opening player.

Well I think Shoaib is wicket taking bowler, So he must be given the new ball. but have to wait and see how they perform, as we all know he is going to play after a long time. Asif is also remarkable with the new ball on seeming tracks.

I am so glad that the tie-breaker of a game is taking place on a weekday. I couldn't be any happier for the organizers of this game. They really have nailed this one.

Re: 5th ODI: Pakistan v South Africa on 29 Oct 2007 @ Lahore
I think PCB should be involved in planning for bigger ICC tournaments as well so that they can put important games on weekdays, they really are showing progress :k:
Re: 5th ODI: Pakistan v South Africa on 29 Oct 2007 @ Lahore
^ credit to them for sticking to policies atleast. previous cricket boards would've been incompetant and accidentally scheduled a few matches on the weekends.
Re: 5th ODI: Pakistan v South Africa on 29 Oct 2007 @ Lahore
next BIG TOURNAMENT pak is hosting is ICC CHAMPIONS TROPHY…during RAMADAN next year (beats everything) and they are already asking ICC to reconsider the dates but countries like AUS/NZ/SA etc are not willing to play on new dates as they have packed schedules and no time available.

No yaar ASN is right
GMT is the same as UK time in Winter i.e. between last Sunday of October (time ek ghenta peechay jaata hai) > last Sunday of March and
GMT is an hour behind UK time in Summer i.e. between last Sunday of March (time ek ghenta aagay jaata hai) > last Sunday of October because of daylight saving
So the time difference between UK time and PST is now 5 hours instead of 4 (Summer)
The match starts at 6.00 am GMT (= UK time) and 11 am PST
Re: 5th ODI: Pakistan v South Africa on 29 Oct 2007 @ Lahore
Not sure why Gul is not playing in this all-important game but the selectors are doing the right thing by giving Imran Nazir encouragement ahead of the important India series. We all know what he's capable of doing in ODIs despite his technical flaws. In the absence of Gul and Asif there will be even more pressure on Akhtar to deliver. He will naturally be a bit rusty since this is his first game in a very long time. So the batting assumes even greater importance now. Hope they can deliver today (match due to start in less than a couple of hours time!). And for once we can do without silly runouts. Yousuf has been the chief culprit so far. He is either runout himself (4th game) or runs other people out ( Younis in second one-dayer)
