36 extras in one game means 36 extra runs + runs taken from bat on those balls. even if we gave half of that like in this match, we would have won. so, yes buddy they were significant, infact more signifact then anything else.

but not the ONLY reason ofc, as i've said in my earlier posts. inzi's captaincy, our bowlers indiscpline, india's superior batting, and ganguly's captaincy, in general are things that were major factors as well.

but look at it this way... maybe the extras were a side-effect of trying to take wickets. Had Pakistan not bowled as visciously as they didm they might have not gotten the wickets. Even in work, to get good margins in sales you have to lose something to do so.

Like i said above: I could blame the losses on the Indian team making stupid shots, for example Tendulkar didn't have to play the shot he did, which was beyond stupidity when he was batting. Had he played sensibly we could have quite easily won that match. 20 extras (over india) or not wouldnt have made a difference

Its easy to lay blame for a loss on one factor of the paper, and usually extras are an easy way out, but it is not significant enough to be conclusive

Please try to understand the historic fact that late 80's and 90's erly 2000 Pakistan was almost ruling the the world un appluaded. Combination of 2 W's / Best oppening pair witnessed by modern cricket / deadly magical spin of Qadir-Mushii-Saqi - Batting of Inzi / Ijaz & co,,, while this was going on " where was India ?
as soon you bowl Azhar or Tandi ,, the game was over.
Lekin Indian young side is doing very good now a days, while pakistan is going through a bad patch due to too many changes and too early,,,
without any to show

the late 90's early 2000 was ruled by australia and south africa

Ok...but what is the point? Although i could argue this extras thing with you....i wont. I am just wondering how it even matters? Assuming you are correct (which you are not), giving away extras is a weakness of a team. Weaknesses cause losses. Blaming luck is one thing, but blaming a weakness is stupid. If India bats poorly one day, does it make sense to say "that win wasn't really pakistan's, we just batted poorly". lol, thats dumb. Same thing for that Zoab Khan guy, poor discipline is a weakness of a team. Weaknesses decrease the rating of a team. They are not just flukes. I am not in the NBA because i shoot off target constantly. that is one of my weaknesses. just one of the reasons why i suck at basketball.

but regardless, your point about the extras is inaccurate to begin with. they would not have made a difference. i can come up with trivial excuses of why India did not win 5-0. I'm sure there are plenty of indians coming up with excuses and excuses as to why it was not 5-0. some of the points are probably valid, but it doesnt matter in the least.

pakistan played well, and avoided humiliation. you should be proud. i am looking forward to the tests! you all should be too. the ODI's are behind us.

thankuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu zero one, saby and whome.. u guys rocks :jhanda:]

Exagerrated blah, blah from Pakistan camp which make them fail to deliver when it comes to real...

I think the Pakistan cricket should become more sober and realistic...and give more thought to why we are going to lose the next match...therein we will build a strong foundation in playing cricket and maintain an overall edge internationally... :)

Crying over extras will not take us anywhere. all departments need extra efforts guys, so give up blaming "mainly" on extras.

I would like to compare Tendi with Yasir…

Young gun Yasir (He should be allowed to muture in that position) few
years down the road Yasir could be where Tendi is ( aggressive style of playing ) , the question is
Is Ysair going to muture himslef to Tendi style of playing rash shots when they are not needed ?
Or Yasir will be more subdued to his own style. He certainly can learn from Amir Sohail that aggressivness is a ticking time bomb in your hand
it can some times blow on your face if not handled correctly..
So What if Pakistan lost today ? India scored more runs than Pakistan

Well ! how long can you keep on this going.

Pathan - good potential
Nehra - good match winner
Zaheer - only hot air - no threat
powar - atay jatay rehna yaar.
dravid - cool customer cool head
ganguly - whats the big deal yaar
Tandul - Star studded “decoy”
laxman - Good head on his shoulder consistant
yuv raj - top gun - ekk eissa hona hee chaye / like Ijaz or Razzak

:jhanda:

First of all congrats to pakistan and india for a splended series. i think india were the better team and they deserved to win. But insha’allah pakistan will bounce back in the test mataches.

i would have been more upset if we have lost less that 150 runs.

shoaib akhtar did not concede a single extra. wow.

Whoa! I overslept.. I thought I wud take a 5 minute nap and slept..and here I woke up just 5 minutes back .. I missed the moment of Victory

cry

But anywho.. lemme start by saying.. WOHOOOOOO!!!

I always knew the series was ours was just the question of how India was gonna achieve it.. 5-0 , 4-1 or 3-2 … so it was 3-2, because Pak is as good(bad) a side as India. The teams were of equal strength, it was just teh question of nerves…

Seems Moin clicked finally, but was too late. Malik played a good knock too..

Pathan did a splendid bowling job.. the munda is really impressive (otherwise too  .. )

And so the series ends, with India winning it 3-2, which makes me wanna ..
:nuch: and thus I will :nuch: all day today..

And seems this thread has broken the record shrecord..
so once again.. :nuch:

So it looks like BJP will win the election?

Yes, thanks to Pakistan.

guys and gals, it's been a great odi series. Thank u pakistan for taking such good care of our citizens. every time i looked at the pics i wanted to be there in lahore ( i also wanted the free clothes and food;)

i am soooo looking forward to the test series now. that is going to be the big daddy of all daddies.

Mood in Lahore

Not yours or mine, Cup is ours

LAHORE : “Between brothers no one wins. We are praying for a tie.” The banner put up by some Indian fans summed up the mood at the Gaddafi Stadium on Wednesday.

While the Indian and Pakistani teams were slugging it out for the Samsung Cup, the mood in the stands was upbeat and friendly. Painted faces, colourful banners, flags, festoons, hooters, there was colour and festivity everywhere.

“I want Pakistan to win, but I will not feel bad if India takes the cup. They are our guests and there are no hard feelings,’’ said Rehana Daud who runs the Pakistan Foundation School in Lahore . An avid cricket watcher, Daud made it to the stadium inspite of suffering muscular diastrophy, which has made her almost immobile. Sisters Alam and Sara Arshad, who run an NGO in Lahore came dressed in tri-colour clothes to support the Indian team. “Our family is supporting India because we believe India and Pakistan are basically one. We are not scared of standing out among Pakistanis. It’s all for a cause,’’ they said cheerfully.

More than 5,000 Indian fans from all over the world made the journey to Lahore for the series decider. Kapil Chandok came all the way from Melbourne with his family. “My parents are from Faislabad. This was also an opportunity to trace our roots. Such is the feeling here that when I visited my ancestral home yesterday, everybody told us they were praying for us to win the Samsung Cup.”

Vivek Chowdhury has made the trip to Lahore with his family and six Pakistani friends from London . “The mood is amazing. My Pakistani friends have been telling me, ‘Cup tussi le jao,’ and I have been telling them, ‘tussi le jao’. They are cheering for us today,” he said happily. Vivek’s Pakistani friend Dalwar Majid Chaudhry is also supporting India this time. “It doesn’t really matter who wins, we are both friends,’’ he says.

Chaudhry has just bought a motorised rickshaw to remember the occasion. He plans to take it back to London . “I want to put the rickshaw outside my restaurant in Southall as a mark of Indo-Pak friendship,’’ he adds.

Besides the usual fans, corporate giants like Samsung too have brought their own group to cheer for India . Then there were the regular tri-colour-clad Bharat Army from Delhi and the famous Chacha from Lahore . Clad in green Pakistani kurta suit, Chacha travels all over the world to cheer for Pakistan .

But the prevailing sentiment was that of camaraderie among the supporters here. Each time Indians hit a boundary, cries of “Kaisa Laga!?” went off from the Indian fans. The rejoinder “Aaccha Laga!” from the Pakistani fans aptly summed up the mood in Lahore .

You’re welcome.

Fighting till the last ball

Sourav Ganguly confessed that the only reason why the Indian team did not run a victory lap on clinching the one-day series against Pakistan was "because the stands were empty by that stage". The spontaneous eruption of joy from every member of the team, even Parthiv Patel, who did not play a single match in the series, showed how much this win meant to the Indian team. Inzamam-ul-Haq, meanwhile, was visibly disappointed, but answered all the questions posed to him patiently. Here is what Ganguly, Inzamam and VVS Laxman had to say:

Sourav Ganguly
On being [part of] the first Indian team to win a series in Pakistan
It's a big win. We haven't won in Pakistan since 1954, I think. It's good to start with a win and be part of a team that has won the one-day series.

On his injury
When I came off, I was in a lot of pain. Andrew [Leipus] gave me an injection. I am numb at the moment. Tomorrow morning I will go for a scan, and I will be able to give you a better idea [then].

On playing in finals
We [have] always believed [that] these games are pressure games. Putting runs on the board always makes a big difference. 293 was a big total, and once you get a big total like that on the board you can put good pressure on the opposition. At the same time, the new-ball bowlers bowled really well to take the game away at 25 for 3.

On whether this was a good toss to lose
I would have batted anyway.

On whether it was difficult to motivate the team when they trailed 1-2
I have always said that we are a different side from what we used to be. Our performance in the last one-and-a-half years, both overseas and at home, has shown this. It has come with a lot of hard work and a lot of off-field work. We work hard for these games and don't give them away easily. It's not too difficult a task to motivate the team.

On whether the Indian batting took a deliberately different approach in this game
Yes it was a different approach. We wanted to keep wickets in hand, although I thought we lost wickets at crucial times, specially when Laxman and I were building a partnership. If we had gone ahead with that partnership, we could have got 320. But you have to give credit to the Pakistani bowlers – the way they bowled today was their best in the series. But yes, [there] was a plan to play differently.

On where this win rates in his many wins as captain
We did well in the Test series in Australia but that was Test cricket and that is different. Beating Pakistan in Pakistan is also among the best. The way we played in the World Cup was also very, very special.

On whether winning the one-day series would give the team confidence ahead of the Tests
They are two different games, but in modern cricket, one-day cricket is equally important. Maybe Test cricket is the cricket, but in terms of the rest of the things, one-day cricket is equally important. We have done well in Tests overseas. It's good that people like Anil [Kumble] and Ajit [Agarkar] are back in the side to strengthen our bowling. Definitely, this win will give us confidence for the Test matches.

Inzamam-ul-Haq
On his feelings at the loss
I can't tell you how sad I am, but they [India] have played well and we must appreciate that. Our fans may be disappointed but we will win the Test series, hopefully. The top batsmen should have realised their responsibility. We lost too many wickets at the start. In the end, an average of eight or nine [runs per over] was not hard to get [had we kept wickets in hand]. There was very good cricket in this series, [and] both teams played well. My main bowlers have not been in their best rhythm. We have had bad starts with the ball but we have not been able to [bowl with] control in the end. But I can tell you [that] they are working hard at the nets.

On whether all the talk about this being a goodwill series put additional pressure on the team
There was no additional pressure, we gave our 100%. The difference between this Indian team and the others is that this one fights till the last ball.

On the atmosphere surrounding this series
I have seen mixed crowds in Sharjah, but the one in Lahore was great. It was nice to see Indians and Pakistanis sit together and enjoy the entertainment. I Hope there will be lots of Indians at the Tests also. I appreciate the Pakistani people for welcoming not only the Indian team but also the fans.

On whether Youhana's failure was a concern
Youhana is such a good batsman and he can click at any time. I'm not worried about him.

On whether the pitches for the Tests would be made according to his preferences, or to the groundsmen's preferences
There will be a little bit of what the groundsman wants and a little bit of what I like.

On whether he was confused by all the advice that he got in the press about what to do on winning the toss
You are right, but I do not read the newspapers. When I watch TV highlights, the volume is muted.

On whether the Indian team had the psychological edge after the one-day series win
Obviously any team which wins a one-day series before the Tests will be high on confidence, but my team has played well and is not down at all.

VVS Laxman
On whether he was under pressure coming into this match as he had failed in earlier matches
There was no pressure as such. I was playing more on the back foot instead of committing myself on to the front foot. I made the adjustment in practice before this game, and the pressure of not scoring wasn't there. The responsibility of doing well for the team in a crucial game was there.

On the fact that he has contributed to more than one historic Indian win
It's always good to contribute to the team, especially in such crucial matches. I am very pleased that I have done that in the past, and I hope I can continue [doing] that in the future
