In seventh-century Arabia, when a man could have as many wives as he chose, to prescribe only four was a limitation, not a license to new oppression. Further, the Quran immediately follows the verses giving Muslims the right to take four wives with a qualification which has been taken very seriously. Unless a man is confident that he can be scrupulously fair to all his wives, he must remain monogamous. Muslim law has built on this: a man must spend absolutely the same amount of time with each of his wives; besides treating each wife equally financially and legally, a man must not have the slightest preference for one but must esteem and love them all equally. It has been widely agreed in the Islamic world that mere human beings cannot fulfill this Quranic requirement: it is impossible to show such impartiality and as a result Muhammad’s qualification, which he need not have made, means no Muslim should really have more than one wife. In countries where polygamy has been forbidden, the authorities have justified this innovation not on secular but on religious grounds.

I'm a bit disapointed that Islamic Law is not allowed in Britain.
Otherwise I would gladly marry four Palestinian widows to give them some shelter and respect and a new life.

If you read the post you will see it is not allowed.
PD you can marry just one Palestinian widow and give her all that too.
I agree with the fact that almost all men who keep more than one wife at a time conveniently look over the conditions laid out to qualify for a second, third or fourth wife. Everyone including many women will jump to say that it is a RIGHT given to men by Allah so we shouldn't have problems with it but what needs to be focused upon first is the qualifying criterion which unfortunately hardly anyone meets.

In Iran, there's a higher number of women than men. This is due to the Iran-Iraq war in the 80s. When many men were killed in tens of thousands.
The women there definately want to get married, have kids and have a normal life. Only a four marriage Islamic system can help them at this moment.
Any person in the world with the right intentions can look after 4 people equally at the same time. You don't need to sit exams to prove that.

There is a condition for marrying more than 1 woman.
You have to absolutely equal time with all of them and best way of doing it is to sleep with them all together in 1 BIG bed.
Dragon, if there are fewer women than man, then it should be allowed the other way too. Do you agree? In Pakistan the ratio is 95 women for 100 men. Comes out to about 1.025 man for every woman.

Agreed by whome? My brother the point is we take orders from Allah [swt] and Muhammad [s]. If anyone of them has set the requirements for humans it mean "mere human beings CAN fulfill this Quranic requirement. Dont believe in everything you read. There are people who have more then one wife and both the wifes are happy and they believer the get full rights.
You see my brother, in this age there is not a single country which has a complete sharia [islamic law implemented. Let alone what they have ammeded and the reason for the ammedment.
Spend one day with one and the other with other. Much better way. You see you make things up, which could be wrong. : )
