Re: 3rd Test: Australia vs. India at Perth (WACA) Jan. 16-20, 2008
Australia 212 All out
India should look to score at least 200 in the 2nd innings to set a decent target.

all out - india get a lead of 118
Re: 3rd Test: Australia vs. India at Perth (WACA) Jan. 16-20, 2008
India 2nd innings - 38/0
Lead by 156 runs
Re: 3rd Test: Australia vs. India at Perth (WACA) Jan. 16-20, 2008
The Indians just need 300+ runs in the second innings and they shd be all set for a win...
Re: 3rd Test: Australia vs. India at Perth (WACA) Jan. 16-20, 2008
Regardless of whether India win or lose - I have to say that India's performance so far in the series has surpassed all my expectations. They have fought hard against the Aussies and have not been rolled over as I thought India would be.
The only one batsman who has "matched" my expectation is Waseem Jaffer - the flat track specialist. I would like to see Karthik in his place in the next Test (even a seemingly out-of-form Yuvraj is acceptable instead of Jaffer - Yuvraj will save as many runs on the field as Jaffer will score with the bat)
Dhoni's wicket-keeping in this test was absolutely brilliant - though, I have to say, that his batting technique has been exposed on these lively pitches - which makes India's long tail even longer.
And Pathan - I have always been his fan through thick and thin. He is such a valuable asset. Intelligent bowler, great batting technique and a fabulous out-fielder (not many people recognize the last mentioned). To keep him out of the team for so long is criminal.
Re: 3rd Test: Australia vs. India at Perth (WACA) Jan. 16-20, 2008
India should be able to win this one if they could give a lead of 300+. It will be iceing on the cake if India wins because Aussies are thinking of making it 17 wins and on top of that due to the sledging in 2nd test, Aussies wnats to beat India badly.

Coming from a perspective of having an inadequately pitiful wicket-keeper in the team; for one, Dhoni has been more than a satisfactory find for India, regardless of how long it stretches out the tail. Looking back at his skill-level when he first started out to where he is now, he has made quite a positive impact.

2nd inning score of 300+ will be done end of day 3, India will need to play till lunch day 4 that would mean 2nd inning score of around 400, total lead of 500+ and India should be all set for victory.
Re: 3rd Test: Australia vs. India at Perth (WACA) Jan. 16-20, 2008
I wouldn't be surprised if Indians choke as usual. Australia is no Zimbabwe..India will really have to earn this one. If they don't get quick yahoo runs from Sehwag, their 'superstars' will really have to shine in order to put up a big total.
Re: 3rd Test: Australia vs. India at Perth (WACA) Jan. 16-20, 2008
yeah its not going to be easy, i dont expect aussies to get skittled out again i think indians are aware of that fact but definitely india is in the drivers seat and if they get thro some tough periods, it would set the game up nicely for them dont want to get ahead of myself, but i dont think any team has beaten australia at the WACA in last 10 years
Re: 3rd Test: Australia vs. India at Perth (WACA) Jan. 16-20, 2008
And just for the record - there have been 4 incorrect LBW decisions(against the batsman) in this game so far. Those against :
Tendulkar
Dhoni
Pathan
Rogers
Re: 3rd Test: Australia vs. India at Perth (WACA) Jan. 16-20, 2008
Yes, the lbw for C Rogers (debutant) was also debatable. The ball was kind of going down the leg side. Asad Rauf will be in a hot seat today as both teams are sore losers.
Re: 3rd Test: Australia vs. India at Perth (WACA) Jan. 16-20, 2008
^ Its not about being sore losers, its about how ridiculous it is that the field Umpires do not have the tools to make the correct decision that the commentators and the audience have to judge them....making field Umpires often seem incompetent.
No doubt, International Cricket has survived for over hundred years and there have been countless wrong decisions made.....but today it seems so outrageous that we lived for so long without Third Umpires to adjudicate Run Outs/Stumpings, so why not also extend it to LBWs....
Re: 3rd Test: Australia vs. India at Perth (WACA) Jan. 16-20, 2008
Are we expecting Australia to roll over a play dead? Its not like Australia don't know how to come from behind.
If India indeed goes on to win the test match than it will be a huge moral boost for them. Especially their bowlers who do not get the respect.
Re: 3rd Test: Australia vs. India at Perth (WACA) Jan. 16-20, 2008
Looks like i'll to prepare myself for distubuting Mithai among my friends (only if India wins) ..... but to be honest i'll do it happily :)

I am keeping my fingers crossed. India lost the last game even after scoring 500+ in the 1st innings and after taking a decent lead (although the Umpires also contributed to India's debacle).
I think that unless India score 300 in the 2nd innings here, it will still be anybody's game.
Re: 3rd Test: Australia vs. India at Perth (WACA) Jan. 16-20, 2008
India winning at the WACA in Perth !!! Someone pinch me!
But in all honesty, India deserves it... they are playing some excellent test cricket lately. Although they lost in Sydney and Melbourne, they are playing absorbing cricket.

Yes, if you look at Aussies' last 15 games, they have never underformed in their 2nd innings. On the few occassions when they have under performed in the 1st innings, they have come back very very strongly in the other innings. And that is why they are the champions. But I know India is going to beat them this time.
Re: 3rd Test: Australia vs. India at Perth (WACA) Jan. 16-20, 2008
Hopefully India can stop Aussies this time. They have a very good chance.
