Sohail and Latif drafted into Pakistan squad

Pakistan have called up Sohail Khan and Khalid Latif, both of whom are uncapped, to their squad for the third ODI in Multan against Zimbabwe on January 27.

Sohail, a right-arm fast-bowler, replaces an unimpressive Samiullah Khan, who failed to pick up any wickets in the two ODIs, and Latif has been called up in place of Sarfraz Ahmed, the reserve wicket keeper.

Sohail was widely tipped to make his ODI debut in Karachi after grabbing 65 wickets in nine first-class matches this season, while also impressing in the four-day tour match against the Zimbabweans. He troubled batsmen with both pace and bounce in that match but was advised a week’s rest after feeling a slight niggle in his right shoulder while throwing the ball.

Sarfraz has been sent to a specialist wicket-keeping camp taking place in Lahore as the selectors are keen to persist with Kamran Akmal for the third ODI. They, however, have not ruled out Sarfraz’s return to the squad if Pakistan wrap up the series at Multan.

The inclusion of opener Latif will put pressure on Salman Butt, who has failed to impress in the series so far. Run out for four in Karachi, Butt made only 17 in Hyderabad.

For the second match running, he was overshadowed by the 18-year-old Nasir Jamshed, who has marked his start in international cricket with consecutive half-centuries. Latif scored 593 runs in the recently-concluded Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and was part of the Patron’s XI squad that took on the Zimbabweans in the tour match.

Squad - Shoaib Malik, Salman Butt, Nasir Jamshed, Younis Khan, Mohammad Yousuf, Misbah-ul-Haq, Shahid Afridi, Kamran Akmal, Sohail Tanvir, Iftikhar Anjum, Fawad Alam, Yasir Arafat, Kamran Hussain, Khalid Latif, Sohail Khan

Match schduled to start at 0600 GMT.

Good to see Samiullah dropped as he was useless but sad to see Sarfraz go and the joker Akmal still there. But there is a chance once Pakistan wins this game, more youngsters including Sarfraz will be tried for the last 2 games. Hopefully he’ll show the idiot Akmal how to keep wickets. Sohail Khan is definetly gonna play but I doubt Khalid Latif will get a chance as im sure Butt will be presisted with and Nasir Jamshed is on fire. Im excited to watch Sohail Khan in action…hopefully he doesnt dissapoint like Samiullah. :jhanda:

Re: 3rd ODI, Pakistan vs Zimbabve, Multan Cricket Stadium, Jan 27, D/N

Afridi once again proves how important he is to the Pakistan ODI team. His 85 changed the coarse of the game. At one stage, Pakistan was 78/5 and I was sure Pakistan is gonna be all out for under 150…but Afridi along with good help and guidence from Misbah got Pakistan to 272. Kamran Hussein played well at the end too and got 28 not out. Akmal :smack: why is he still here? :smack: The rookie Kamran Hussein was making Akmal look like an idiot even while batting.

Re: 3rd ODI, Pakistan vs Zimbabve, Multan Cricket Stadium, Jan 27, D/N

Afridi has today equalled Jayasuriyas record of 245 sixes in ODI's.

Re: 3rd ODI, Pakistan vs Zimbabve, Multan Cricket Stadium, Jan 27, D/N

Absolutely stunning performance by Afridi. Again he proves how important he is for Pakistans team and had the chance to make PCB shut up. But whats with Mohammad Yusuf the favourite of many here. Has done nothing special t this series yet. I see non criticizing him. Where is Saby? :D
Secondly why is Akmal still in the team? Its time to bring in the lads!
Hussain played pretty well.

Sohail Tanvir strikes

Zim 10/1 in the 3rd over.

Re: 3rd ODI, Pakistan vs Zimbabve, Multan Cricket Stadium, Jan 27, D/N

49/2 14 over have they dropped Niazi KHan? Pretty stupid to do so. Zimbabwe might not win It, but It was no good performance by our middle order batsmen.

Re: 3rd ODI, Pakistan vs Zimbabve, Multan Cricket Stadium, Jan 27, D/N

91/3 off 24 overs.

Re: 3rd ODI, Pakistan vs Zimbabve, Multan Cricket Stadium, Jan 27, D/N

216-7 47 overs
**Pretty much Pakistans win. **But I'm everything but happy with their performance in this match. I saw tired fielding attitude, no fight at all and then what strategy were both Teams playing with?

Re: 3rd ODI, Pakistan vs Zimbabve, Multan Cricket Stadium, Jan 27, D/N

Pakistan win by 37 runs

Afridi was the difference between the two teams today.

Re: 3rd ODI, Pakistan vs Zimbabve, Multan Cricket Stadium, Jan 27, D/N

:hula: (only one today for a weak performance this time).
Hope to see wins by Pak team in future. :jhanda:

Re: 3rd ODI, Pakistan vs Zimbabve, Multan Cricket Stadium, Jan 27, D/N

Afridi saved Pakistan from an embarassing defeat today. His 85 changed the game and as Ehsan bhai rightly said above...Afridi was the difference between the two teams in this match.
