"39" Probables announced for the up coming series against Srilanka!

Re: "39" Probables announced for the up coming series against Srilanka!

The teams that have been leaked in different news papers have same old tested faces like Butt, Imran Nazir, Farhat, Hameed, Faisal Iqbal and Taufeeq Umar. All of them have been given so many chance. It was such a good oppertunity to bring in new faces under a young captain. Anyways lets see what happens!

Re: "39" Probables announced for the up coming series against Srilanka!

^ Unless there is a huge flaw in Anwar Ali's bowling such as chucking, he should be given a chance atleast for these 2 ODIs.

Re: "39" Probables announced for the up coming series against Srilanka!

^ i doubt that he will be given a chance. I think the only new players that might make the final cut is Fawad Alam. Even though i would really like to see Adnan Raza. This guy has amazing domestic statistics.

Re: “39” Probables announced for the up coming series against Srilanka!

One thing that’s good about Salah ud Din is that he got a keen eye. He was the one to bring Saqlain Mushtaq into Pak team and hope he retains his avid interest for the job he’s been selected for.

For bringing Anwar Ali Khan, I’ve a quote for our selection committee. “Better late than never.” Hope that he comes out of the probables into “playing 11.”

Umer

Akmal, Farhat, Shabbir, Faisal are “unfit” as per Jang , and “with minor health problems” as per Dawn…
Don’t most of us want them dropped any way…

LAHORE, April 30: Five players are facing minor injury, health problems at the ongoing national cricket camp here at the Gaddafi Stadium.
It is believed that these problems have been caused mainly due to the scorching heat prevailing in Lahore presently.

Meanwhile, Faisal Iqbal, Kamran Akmal, Faisal Iqbal and Imran Farhat are suffering from eye infection, flu and chest infection respectively at the camp.
The first practice match, featuring the camp probables, will be played at the Gaddafi Stadium on Tuesday.
In all, 38 probables are to attend the training camp, which has been set up to pick the Pakistan squad for the proposed three-match ODI series against World Cup runners-up Sri Lanka, to be held in Abu Dhabi next month.

Re: "39" Probables announced for the up coming series against Srilanka!

Will be interesting to see how Pak does on this tour....eagerly awaiting the series...

Re: "39" Probables announced for the up coming series against Srilanka!

Now I am not expecting whoesale changes; same old story for the openers (Musical chair's at its best) and few newcomer's will get a chance. I hope whoever is selected get a decent run (atleast 20 ODI's "playing")

I think shoaib akther, Umer Gul and Asif should be rested, Shabbir and the new bowlers should go to A-D for the 3 games, either of our front line bowlers get injured they will be gone for a long time.

Re: "39" Probables announced for the up coming series against Srilanka!

Don't expect anything. Malik has already publically said that results from this series do not matter as they will be giving chance to new players. If that is the case we should expect a whilte wash and maybe some new faces getting the National cap.

Re: "39" Probables announced for the up coming series against Srilanka!

^^ that is the first thing I didn't like about Malik's attitude that "this series doesn't mean anything at all" and his target is next WC, Malik bhai take baby steps, there is Saffies tour, ICCCT and last but not least 20-20ty Cup is South africa.

Re: "39" Probables announced for the up coming series against Srilanka!

^^ Keep in mind, Malik can't say that unless he got the same message from the Board and Selection committee.
So its not Malik I was pointing the finger at. He is too new to be making such comments on his own.

Re: "39" Probables announced for the up coming series against Srilanka!

Nah I am not saying that, Malik or PCB whoever hinted "that message" is a cause of slippery slope. Oh well enough of being arm-chair critic for me, will wait till the start of the series.

Re: "39" Probables announced for the up coming series against Srilanka!

Right now PCB is not sure if the series will go ahead, I read it in dawn newspaper. why would they do such a thing! Getting us hyped up and later it was tv rights trouble...etc.

Pakistan-Sri Lanka ODI series delayed :o
By our correspondent

KARACHI: Pakistan’s three-match One-day International (ODI) series against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi has been delayed by a week because of a plethora of problems.

The organisers of the series which was supposed to be played from May 9-15 were forced to delay on the request of the Sri Lankan Cricket Board, a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official said on Wednesday.

The official said that the event’s organisers have informed the PCB that the series is now expected to be held from May 15-20 because the Sri Lankans needed some time before sending their players to Abu Dhabi.

The Sri Lankans who featured in the April 28 final of the World Cup in Barbados got stranded in London en-route to Colombo after flights going to the Sri Lankan capital were suspended because of attacks carried out by Tamil Tigers in recent days.

However, sources said that another reason why the organisers in Abu Dhabi were unable to hold the series on time is because they are yet to sell any television rights.

Zakir Khan, PCB’s Director of Operations, when asked to comment on the issue said that it is wrong to say that series in Abu Dhabi has been postponed. “The dates of the series were never announced so you cannot say that it has been postponed or rescheduled,” he said.

There have been speculations in recent days that the series would be cancelled because of sponsorship-related problems but Zakir denied all such reports. “The series is very much on and the dates of the matches would be announced by the organisers in consultation with the Sri Lankans and the PCB,” he said.

Well done PCB :grumpy::mad:

Re: “39” Probables announced for the up coming series against Srilanka!

Oh bhai sahab, just because the PCB is home to a whole bunch of incompetent people, not every bad thing happening in cricket is their fault. Their are neither the organizers of the event in question nor have they anything to do with the Tamil Tiger attacks in Sri Lanka.

Fawad’s selection chances get a boost as Faisal, Kamal ruled out
By Khalid Hussain
KARACHI: Prominent middle-order batsmen Faisal Iqbal and Asim Kamal are almost out of the race to replace former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq in Pakistan’s One-day International (ODI) squad for a three-match series against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi because of illness.
Faisal, 25, is suffering from an eye ulcer that has forced him to miss training sessions at a preparatory camp that concluded in Lahore on Thursday. Asim Kamal was also forced to remain away from the action because of malaria.
The duo, regarded among the more talented of the local batsmen, were in the run for berths in the Pakistani squad for the ODI series in Abu Dhabi later this month because of the absence of Inzamam and Younis Khan.
Inzamam has retired from one-day cricket while Younis made himself unavailable for the matches against Sri Lanka because of his county commitment with Yorkshire.
Faisal, a nephew of former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad, has featured in 18 one-day matches and last played against the West Indies in the home series in December, 2006. He has also played 18 Tests and is considered by many as an automatic choice to replace Inzamam in the middle-order. The Karachi-based batsman, who was ignored for the World Cup in the Caribbean, was being seriously considered for the matches in Abu Dhabi by the national selectors but the eye infection has almost ended his hopes of playing in the series.
Asim Kamal, 28, was also in the 39-man list invited for a national training camp last month. A reliable batsman who has a healthy average in Tests, the left-handed Asim is yet to make his ODI debut for Pakistan.
Some experts support his inclusion in both the Test and ODI squads because of his solid temperament which they believe can be an asset for the Pakistani batting line-up that has the tendency to crumble under pressure.
With Faisal and Asim becoming doubtful, young batsman Fawad Alam now looks set to get a berth in the Abu Dhabi-bound squad.
Fawad would captain a Pakistan Academy team against a select XI that would be led by the new Pakistan Shoaib Malik at the Gaddafi Stadium in the last trial match today. The 21-year-old Fawad led Pakistan Academy to the title in a three-team Academy tournament in Dhaka earlier this week that also involved teams from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
The national selectors have decided to give rest to several prominent national players and have instead opted to try out several second string players in the last trial game.
An official said that premier batsman Mohammad Yousuf, pacers Umar Gul, Mohammad Sami and Rao Iftikhar are some of the leading players who would be rested for today’s match.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to wind up the training camp after today’s match according to scheduled but has announced that the national team players would reassemble for a final phase of the camp on May 10 in Lahore.
Pakistan are to announce their team for the series in Abu Dhabi by May 7.
The three-match series is now to be played from May 18-22. Earlier, the matches were to be held from May 9-15 but were rescheduled on the request of the Sri Lankan cricket officials. The Pakistan cricket team would leave for Abu Dhabi on May 16.
