There are so many guys who are in their late 20’s and early 30’s and still not done with a bachelor’s degree. You dig deeper and 80% of the time there is an academic problem (failing school, etc), and 20% of the time, mom decided in her infinite wisdom it’s better to get the boy working at a gas station. Then he finally realizes and gathers enough cash to actually go to college.
Well.. the bright side is he understands the value of a good education? Also, some people start off late in life, but when they finally start working they make a good living for themselves. It personally wouldn't be a deal breaker for me if I knew he was trying his best. That's worth something to me than a guy who doesn't do anything about his current financial problems and just complains about how sucky life is...
If he's working sincerely towards something I would support him, because if I was in his position and started studying late or something got in the way, I would want my husband's/fiance's support.
At least he didn't think to himself that, "Oh I'm too old now to finish my Bach degree, it'll be embarrassing." It takes a good deal of confidence to get over your past mistakes (academic failures, etc) and to complete your formal education. Now if a woman does not feel comfortable that he's still studying to get a basic uni degree, then she can simply move on to the next rishta. Baat khatam.
Don't know his parents financial position. But increasingly education is a business if u got the dough, you finish ur education early. For the rest, it is work at gas station etc. Builds character I would think
sometimes, it's due to unavoidable situations. if it's because of none of his fault then at least one should give credit to the guy who is trying to upgrade himself.
i know someone who did his PhD at age 50. he had been teaching at a college from the age of 25 and up to 45. he is a professor at an American University.
There is nothing wrong in changing majors mid way through your degree. It is better to reevaluate yourself and do something you will enjoy and be successful at.
Our Desi parents love giving a shot at engineering and medicines, unfortunately it is not for everyone.
Its not just desis but everyone in general nowadays. Young kids graduating from high school wants to make quick buck ... they don't want to go to college and go on debt only to find out their is no job. Instead they get some courses done and start minimal jobs. Sad to say but in my extended family there are 3 kids like that ,,, one is just working at Wendys or something, one is doing online photography course after buying DSLR camera and the other had done some sort of 2hr training course in real estate and want to do business. And they are 22-23 now and all are from upper middle class family. I hope they soon realize education is important
Maybe this course will help him evaluate what he wants to do with his life...his interests for a degree...
Maybe a degree is not for him. Maybe a career in real estate is something he can be successful at. I don't know but you have to give that kid a chance to figure out what he wants out of life, instead of spoon feeding him.

I am all for giving choices but at least they have to be sensible ones. The way the world is progressing everything is becoming more and more competitive and nobody would want their child to stay behind. A person graduating from HS is still a kid ... they have no real life experience. You have to at least guide them or show them the way. To get any decent desk job, a normal person would have to go through bachelors, masters etc. But if you think that working in McDonalds and surviving solely on commissions etc. for the rest of the life brings stability and thats what they want to do in life, then go for it.
Working as a Realtor and working in MacDonalds is very different from each other.
Realestate is a pretty decent and sensible choice made by the kid, lot of people have made successful careers out of it.
All I am saying is let the kid figure out. Ask him what he enjoys about real estate career, help him figure out what B.S. degrees cover those areas and what are some other similar careers he can look into.
I am currently reading a book by Greg Keller, the owner and CEO of Keller Williams Realty. He started his career in real estate in his early 20s, after 10 yes or so he started his own company, and now he is a CEO of one of the most renound real estate companies in US.
It would depend on the circumstances. I know people that had to go back to school because life happened (death in the family, family responsibilities, etc)--that's understandable. Then, I also know people that have dragged their degrees out God knows how many years because they're not serious about their education; they'll take a class, then drop it or fail. They change their majors 0923820 x (I changed mine 2-3x so I understand it happens). Those things, to me anyways, point to a lack of focus and drive at some level and though that may fly for some people, I'm way to Type A to be okay with that.
