Re: 3 muslims gunned down in Chapel Hill. “Hate crime”
It’ll prove that hate spread by the media against Muslims, portraying Islam as some evil is causing people to become so paranoid about Islam & filling them with this kind of rage to go as far as murdering the most harmless of Muslims.
It will prove how media’s portrayal of Muslims as EVIL people is making people to take on guns and shoot their Muslim neighbours. It’ll prove the strong impacts on the minds of people of media’s lies and misinformation directed at Muslims because of their faith. It will prove how media is controlled and used only against Muslims and for alienating them in the west. It will call for responsibility on the part of those working in and MISUSING the media sector for this purpose. About time that fact be highlighted so that those media people guilty of spreading hate towards muslims/Islam would also be held accountable whenever they do it whether it be print, electronic or social media. It’s about time those haters know they can’t get away with crime of spreading hate.
Re: 3 muslims gunned down in Chapel Hill. “Hate crime”
I disagree with Shamraz that it will make no difference if he was charged with hate crime.
Let us assume for the sake of this discussion that Shamraz is correct about the sentencing - that the current charge carries as tough or tougher sentencing than hate crime being ADDED to charges (I doubt if it is true).
Even so, it sends a message that crimes targeting someone based on religion, sexual orientation or race is just not going to be tolerated.
Re: 3 muslims gunned down in Chapel Hill. “Hate crime”
Yes I do agree with you that it is a hate crime, but you can also see the news media puts spin control on it by calling him an atheist and bringing to attention the parking quarrel as a motive!
Re: 3 muslims gunned down in Chapel Hill. “Hate crime”
1st degree murder is the most serious charge (among degrees of murder) in the US. A first degree murder means elements like deliberate planning, premeditation, or malice. In other words, person made deliberate and clear-headed decision to kill the person. Hate crime is federal laws & defendant cannot be tried in state court for that.
Btw, only benefit of charging someone with hate crime is that there is no parole or probation in federal system. So, if someone is convicted and sentenced for x number of years they have to served out entire time…were in states they might let them out after serving some time on good behaviors.
Re: 3 muslims gunned down in Chapel Hill. “Hate crime”
I was watching this video of this hardcore American Christian conspiracy theorist trying to prove that Chapel Hill murders were fake. There was a comment posted underneath by a woman saying that this news is fake because the victim’s sister in her speech said they’re alive.
Also, I don’t know who’s more hateful, atheists or fundamentalist Christians? I guess both have a fair share of hateful goons.
Re: 3 muslims gunned down in Chapel Hill. “Hate crime”
Oh so the Americans believe in kaanspiracy theories too? I guess it’s not a big news, their history shows that those people always needed a bogeyman to feel safe and special. If they don’t have a bogeyman, they invent one. It is so essential for their survival. First the Europeans, then blacks, then came communists and Russians, now the ‘mawslums’ and the Arabs. What would the Americans do if they don’t have any ‘enemies’? I guess it is wrong to generalise the poor old Americans, yeah it’s just handful of some silly people with silly ides, yes just the handful. So lets not generalise. Americans are just like any other nation, you know with faults and all that jazz. So let’s not generalise and demonise Americans.
RALEIGH, N.C. — Chapel Hill police said they are investigating whether religious or ethnic hatred motivated the killings of three Muslims, and federal investigators said hate crimes haven’t been ruled out.
The FBI also announced Thursday that it has “opened a parallel preliminary inquiry to determine whether any federal laws were violated.”
U.S. Attorney Ripley Rand, the district’s top federal prosecutor, had said Wednesday that there was no immediate evidence Muslims were being targeted.
Chapel Hill police said again Thursday they believe the deaths of the three resulted from a long-standing dispute over a parking at the apartment complex where the suspect, Craig Stephen Hicks, and the three victims lived.
Re: 3 muslims gunned down in Chapel Hill. “Hate crime”
Who exactly has referred to ALL Muslims like this? Who are the “self haters”? If the word “we” being used is such a problem for some people perhaps they need to work more on their language skills..
“We are going on holiday” doesn’t mean “all Muslims are going on holiday”, "we’re having a baby doesn’t mean “all Muslims are having a baby” so why do *some *people on this forum continue to imply the word “we” is a problem and must mean “everyone” or “all Muslims”.. It’s really bizarre
Such exaggeration and ridiculously inflammatory language (“self hating”.“appeasement”, “Hitler lovers” and “slave mentality” as seen in a couple of other threads) tend to come from right-wingers rather than those who genuinely want people to live in peace and harmony.. It’s not smart and it doesn’t make your argument any more convincing.. This sort of language I’d expect to read from someone like Anne Coulter, an extreme zionist or member of the EDL..
An article that reminded me of this thread.. Just replace the word “Jew” with Muslim and we have some similar attitudes here.. It’s actually quite sad:
3 innocent people were killed and iA their killer will given the punishment he deserves.. My heart goes out to the families of the victims and I’d hope people would want to band together instead of taking the opportunity to spread more hate and bitterness.. Same goes for the “Hug a Muslim” thread.. It’s easy to sit behind a computer screen and constantly b*tch and make snide remarks.. At least those people were actually getting off their backsides to try and do something to help foster understanding between communities..
Re: 3 muslims gunned down in Chapel Hill. “Hate crime”
LOL! How cute and innocent. You really think I’m talking about babies and holiday here? Nice try. A pretty poor lecture on language skills, if that was the intention.
Just because you saw the word self hater, don’t get too defensive and think you have to personally clarify something. Yes, self haters are those who deliberately use the word ‘we Muslims’ and ‘us Muslims’ to impose collective sense of guilt, blame and responsibility on all Muslims for every action committed by ISIS butcher to a comment made by an FB troll. I consider that as just another form of generalisations. Yes, I do have a problem when I see Muslims who think just because they are Muslims, they have the right to speak for all the Muslims, and talk smack about all the Muslims. I consider them extremists of different category. Again, don’t get too defensive and start justifying it. I have a problem being part of such generalized 'we’s and 'us, good for you if you don’t.
Yes, I deliberately employed hyperbolic language to highlight the point which you clearly missed. If words like ‘Americans’ are frowned upon and quickly corrected when critiquing American society, then why is it that the words like Pakistanis or Muslims become oh so normal part of figure of speech?
And no, you hardly tried to make a convincing argument by chucking in EDL or Zionist comparison. But that actually proves my point that the constant negative generalisation made against Muslims by the Muslims are equally problematic as right wing BS espoused by EDL and Fox news. Do you agree? Simple yes or no, please. In case you decide to answer.
Just somewhere I read a comment so proudly describing Pakistan as top racist country with such ease and effortlessness, as if these tags mean nothing.
Re: 3 muslims gunned down in Chapel Hill. “Hate crime”
Hug a Muslim thread? I don’t even remember commenting on that thread, nor I recall comments from that thread. So, I hope I’m not asked to comment or justify that thread - quote the members you have issues with.
Re: 3 muslims gunned down in Chapel Hill. “Hate crime”
Jolie, give it a rest.
Aren’t you the one talking language and semantics with sachaydino, AP etc who you fight with on political threads regarding Imran and Pakistan? What is good for the goose is good for the gander.
Re: 3 muslims gunned down in Chapel Hill. “Hate crime”
I agree, to what you said but you are wasting time. These guys are so stubborn. They talk about atrocities committed by ISIS (and eventually put blame on all muslims, using the word “We muslim”) but would nt say even a single word if muslims are at receiving end. “HER” heart goes out to the family of the victims but still that girl skipped the “hate crime” part. When someone speaks for “Saachaaie and facts”, these guys come up with " Are you spreading hate? " look who is talking about" spreading hate". Hopocrisy.
Re: 3 muslims gunned down in Chapel Hill. “Hate crime”
Seriously what’s your issue? How petty of you to take advantage of this tragedy and use it to air your own petty grievances. You quickly write a line about the victims then go on and on about ‘self hating Muslims.’ Again what’s your problem? Were you denied a visa to the US? For someone to harbor so much hatred against a country is absurd.
Time and again whenever there is a thread about the United States you conveniently show up to express your ‘horror’ at what a terrible place this is. I am tired of people constantly criticizing the US when most of you haven’t even stepped foot here and seen what life is like here for the average Muslim. The bottom line is we ALL are content with where we live and criticize other countries. It’s human nature. It’s what we all do. Every country has it’s pros and cons and despite this incident I am glad I live here because it’s not as if there is any country in the world which is a utopia for Muslims. The US is still better than Europe whether you like it or not. We don’t have nationwide issues with niqab or minarets and we certainly don’t have anti-Muslim rallies with 25,000 people.
Yes what happened was an outright hate crime no matter how the media spins it and our hearts are heavy. We are all shocked to the core and trying to come to terms with this tragedy. I don’t think any Muslim on this forum has ever criticized ALL Muslims for the acts of ISIS and Al-Qaeda. Some may have expressed concern about why our religion is being hijacked by such fools. They may be concerned about our image and feel Muslims living in the West need to be more proactive and assimilate in this society so we can quash all misconceptions out there.
Honestly, stop manipulating this tragedy. It’s sickening.
Go say a prayer for Deah, Yosur and Razan. They are true martyrs. May Allah bless their souls and grant them the highest level in Jannah.
Re: 3 muslims gunned down in Chapel Hill. “Hate crime”
Hugs are a start. What do you suggest? Sitting behind a screen on paklinks, trying to act suave and criticizing every small effort towards bringing people together?
And you too with your constant criticism of the US. Where do you live Zafra? I’m sure with the constant negativity you spew against the US, you live somewhere very very far, maybe in your own self made utopia?
Re: 3 muslims gunned down in Chapel Hill. “Hate crime”
Currently in the US. Before that I was in Afghanistan, Sudan, South Sudan and a good many other hot spots. I have seen first hand what the US does in these countries and thus my criticism. You are welcome to ***** from the comfort of your ignorance as much as you want. I on the other hand have done so much more like building schools in Darfur, helping establish women shelters in Afghanistan, dealing with torture cases and of course tribal reconciliation in south sudan focusing on POC and SGBV.
But of course, I am just posting on the net without an actual real life humanitarian work.
Re: 3 muslims gunned down in Chapel Hill. “Hate crime”
Was I denied a USA visa? Typical clichéd quack you often hear from Pakistani Americans whenever they see their Holy Cow of a country being criticised. Every Pakistani who says anything against their country must’ve been denied a visa in Islamabad, right? Otherwise why on earth would anyone dare say anything against the heaven that’s America, han? Just to you don’t shoot that childish retort again, I actually don’t require a visa to enter America, for anyone of my stays.
My problem is that there are plenty of Pakistanis and Muslims who are equally sick and tired of seeing people using every tragic incident to say so much generalised crap about their country. Pakistanis/ Muslims are also tired of being constantly criticised for actions they share no responsibility for, and how their own personal tragedies are used against them. Do you agree with that? If American Pakistanis can have their tails on fire everyone time someone says against their America, there are Pakistanis/Muslims who get equally sickened by how they are constantly demonised and dehumanised those living in American. I’m not interested in any of your God bless American sophistry, American probably is a wonderful place for Muslims, just like plenty French Muslims are also glad they live in France. You are not the only human being who appreciate their country, sweeetheart.
Unfortunately, unlike many people here, no country or Island came in my parents’ jahez. Nor I go around wearing ‘hey look at me I am a third/fourth generation Walaytee badge’ on my chest. So don’t try this Europe is more Islamophobic than America, and put whether you like or not quip. You think I’m here to pull a you and go on a defensive about Europe and paint is a some fairytale world. And no, I was not denied visa for Europe either. Go ahead and write essays on how Islamophobic Europe is, and I’d probably end like your posts and provide you with more information. Who says it is only the Muslims who are racists and bigots?
I hope some of my oh so problematic posts criticism of America the global Holy Cow makes people like you realise that it is actually quite pathetic to put entire nation, race and religion on trial and give guilty verdict on the basis of actions of few.
