Actually most Pakistanis have turned to Ghetto-ization rather than extremism. Out of the the million plus Pakistanis here in the UK less than 1% are involved in extremism. However, a much larger amount associates only with each other forgetting when they go to apply to a job they will come across all others and wont know how to relate to them. A lot of British born Pakistanis have become criminalised - drug dealing, physical assaults, insurance fraud to name but a few. A lot of them think they are black and that rap is somehow a part of their culture. They hang about in gangs/groups and have bad relations with other ethnics is Indian, Bangladeshi, West Indians, English. Sadly large areas in the north-west of England have become no-go areas because of thugs of Pakistani origin.
Thats generally the case, where its only a small minority that turn to criminal activity, or extremism, which should also be categorized as, at the very least, anti social behavior. In the end I think even though the type of organization they involve themselves with can vary, the rational for joining is at its core very similar. A gang might not be for everyone, nor is an extremist group ideal for everyone, but the reason why they join one or the other, or what they expect to gain out of it, is essentially the same.

it's not really a mystery. the US and UK immigrant profiles are very different and visa standards have been much, much lower in the UK. on average, immigrants to the US are far more educated and socioeconomically well-off than their UK counterparts. of all groups, the difference is most pronounced with pakistanis. in the UK the pakistani population is dominated by the labor class with a huge proportion literally being villagers from mirpur. pakistanis in the US are usually educated...grad students, engineers, etc.
in the US they are somewhat near the top of the socioeconomic distribution. in the UK they are at the absolute bottom. obviously they won't have equal inclination towards crime/terrorism.
I dont know about that. I have heard this argument before, but seems more like assumption then fact. I have been exposed to both communities, and I havent noticed any significant difference in terms of educational background, job experience. The profile of most Pakistanis here in NY is very similar to those of their counterparts in England. indeed, many have the same backgrounds, as most families will have members living in both countries. Both communities are derived from the same standard pool of middle class with the same general educational level and job training and experience, or lack there off. Both communities have successful members, highly educated members, but in both cases, they are a relative minority compared to the vast numbers of less educated and working class members.
I believe the difference is less to do with the demographic make up of the two groups and more to do with certain specific socio economic issues related to each community within the cotext of their respective country.

Unfortunately where as the US has only taken on the highly educated from Pakistan, the UK has taken in every stray that has come its way. My family arrived here uneducated in the 1970's but worked night and day to ensure we had a better education. Unfortunately the new generation have no such intentions, so breed uneducated idiots who are prime targets for being brainwashed by these nut jobs.

Pakistani Canadians are better integrated into the Fabric of Canada than British Pakistanis, its just a fact.
Pakistani Canadians don't go around gang-raping White Canadian Girls like they do in England, nor they attack and kill White People just because they are white, nor have they engaged in major terrorist attacks, nor have they rioted, nor are there any major Pakistani Criminal Gangs in Canada, and nor are they struck on Welfare mooching off the state while having 7 kids so they can get a bigger check.
The difference is Pakistanis who live in Canada are mostly educated people where as Pakistanis who went to England are mostly these low class laborers and then the mills went bankrupt ended up welfare rolls and when it came time for their kids to get married, they married them to their cousins in Pakistan who in turn sponsored more relatives to immigrate to England. Since their social circle consisted of poor laborers, thats who kept coming to England.
And thus you have the current situation where Pakistani Canadians given their lack of education and opportunity are easily influenced into joining criminal gangs or terrorist groups.

There are some terror elements in Canada too…oh and not to forget the honour killings rate. And there were some Pakistani Canadian involved in 2006’s terror plot. Also, very few Pakistani Canadian are politicians and media personalities as compare to British Pakistanis.

About the welfare, that's to do with the government decides's policies, and there are more white families with big families on welfare than Pakistanis.

100% Agree with the above! I have a friend who graduated from university with me. She was forcefully married off to her cousin in Mirpur who was a rikshaw driver there! Needless to say, they got divorced after he got the permanent resident status. Last I heard from her, she was working as a clinical psychologist and he was working as a butcher in Manchester! :(

I don't think it is a question of demonizing anyone Hareem. The prevalence of forced marriages within the mirpuri community and all the problems that come with it are highlighted in quite a few studies. It is a fact and not just an opinion.

replied to this quite often but ignoring facts is nothing new. The day you have canadian Pakistanis occupying places in parliament or are ministers than come and talk, otherwise look at some facts before generalising a whole community.

As I said before, Mirpuris have some serious issues, but we can't single out them and blame everything on them for them being Mirpuris.
We remember the London Riots, right? Can we blame the black community for it?
If anything, I'd blame the increasing gap among social classes in UK.

There are major concentrations of Pakistanis in certain parts of England which allows representation from those areas to be Pakistanis.
Pakistanis in USA, a country of 310 million where Pakistanis are only 300,000, are more dispersed.
In Canada, there are Pakistanis who are MP's representing their districts since Canada's population is 31 million.
