Hey guys.. Im in the process of ordering my bridal outfit and am confused on whether I should have a 3.5 yard or 5 yard dupatta? With my budget I can either have a 3.5 yard dupatta and a trail at the end of my lehnga or a 5 yard dupatta with a normal straight lehnga. So confused on what to do! I want to be able to wear my outfit in the future but my designer insists I have 5 yards. What would you do if you were in my position?
Re: 3.5 yard or 5 yard dupatta?
Let me guess - is this Bunto? She insisted on a 5 yard duppata for my bhaabi's outfit as well...
3.5 yard or 5 yard dupatta?
Yep bunto, she says I'm tall enough to be able to handle it.. What did you guys decide on then?
Re: 3.5 yard or 5 yard dupatta?
i'd go with the 5 yard dupatta- more versatility in how you drape it. plus, the train look is such an old trend now. its time for something new! plus, your outfit will still be graceful with no train considering its a Bunto.
Re: 3.5 yard or 5 yard dupatta?
We went with the 5 yards - it was pretty heavy, so we also asked for an additional, but much simpler duppata to be included in the same budget. It just had chan on it, so that it could be worn with the shirt at a later time.
3.5 yard or 5 yard dupatta?
Oh thats a good idea.. Im now leaning towards 5 yards.. When did you order your bhabis outfit and for how much? ( if u don't mind me asking) btw what is chan?
3.5 yard or 5 yard dupatta?
A train is common now? I don't even know what is common or not since i live outside of pak! Thanks for letting me know!
Re: 3.5 yard or 5 yard dupatta?
We ordered the bridal back in 2009 and it was in the higher end of her price range.
The spots you see all over this outfit is chan:
Re: 3.5 yard or 5 yard dupatta?
Please no train on your lehnga...
Re: 3.5 yard or 5 yard dupatta?
I don't like trains on desi dresses either.
Re: 3.5 yard or 5 yard dupatta?
^ THIS! I cringe everytime I see a desi bridal with a train. ![]()
Re: 3.5 yard or 5 yard dupatta?
ok thanks !

Are trains really that bad :-/ I think they look elegant
Re: 3.5 yard or 5 yard dupatta?
The thing with trains is that its really tricky to make them look elegant

on a gora gown, yes. on a desi gown, it just ends up being masses of extra fabric and it looks so odd, imo :/
i think if you really want the elegant, regal gown look, opt for a farshi gharara.

**on a gora gown, yes. on a desi gown, it just ends up being masses of extra fabric **and it looks so odd, imo :/.
^ This! On gora gowns....due to the fabric and lack of heavy kaam...train looks elegant b/c it flows nicely....
On desi gowns....I guess due to the fabric & heavy kaam....plus there just being so much stuff there already (heavy mehndi, jewelry all over, dupatta on head etc).....train just looks like a wet mop being dragged (it doesn't have that light/airy/floaty look to it). I have yet to see a typical desi bridal that actually looks elegant with a train.
Re: 3.5 yard or 5 yard dupatta?
^ exactly.
another compromise for the train is to go for the new high/low hemlines that are in fashion. that way you can have a little bit of a sweep behind you without it being a huge piece of excess fabric dragging along.
Re: 3.5 yard or 5 yard dupatta?
i'm going for a 5 yard dupatta aswell....
one side will be quite long draping down my side to knee length, supported by my arm and the other side will be pushed to the back of my shoulders ... i think this style is really elegant and also this way your not covering up the beautiful kam on the front of the dress chest/abdomen .... i don't get why brides drape the dupatta over the chest to cmpletely cover all the embroidery that took ages to bead :ssss whats the point ?
Re: 3.5 yard or 5 yard dupatta?
5 inch ? isnt that too long? how do they drape it? i mean isnt it too hard to handle ?
