Well lets hope he can do well then, Im not sure if we have many choices though. As far as I know he is the only notable domestic off spinner we have. Without Saqlain around I think Arshad Khan might get a bit of playing time in Tests over the next year or so.

I cannot resists a chuckle when I read statements like :
'Inzimam sets sights on series win' OR the even better
'Woolmer warns team against complacency'.
Pak was "saved" by some obdurate batting of two men(out of 11) on DAY 5 of the test for god's sake. Other than that they were totally outplayed by India in all departments of the game. And the result of the test was a DRAW.
And Bob Woolmer is already talking about his team being complacent.....for what reason may I ask....?
Also , from a personal point of view, I still don't see Akmal as a great batting potential. I usually know a batsman with a future when I see one and I am still not impressed with Akmal's technique....He is a plucky/pugnacious batsmen like many wicket-keepers tend to be (but sorry I don't see him as a reliable batsman).
It may be of interest to know(though not necessarily in context) that one of our very own wicket-keeper Deep Dasgupta scored a century at Mohali against NZ....in NZ's last tour to India.

Akmal doesnt have a solid technique admittedly but that doesnt mean he cannot bat. Look at wicket keeper batsman like Moin who had the weirdest technique possible but he bailed us out on countless occassion. I am NOT comparing Akmal with Moin because its still early days but my point is that presence of a solid technique does not guarantee success and vice versa. One also needs grit, determination, patience and other ingredients as well and Akmal has most of them and thus he was successful in bailing Pakistan out that day.
Oh I remember DasGutpa’s knock and you have rightly said yourself that circumstances were entirely different then.

Well i think ....Afridi and Rana should defo not be left out
Afridis in form at the mo...and can get some quick runs at speed not to mention hes an excellent fielder and can take the odd wicket ....
he should replace butter fingers (taufeeq).
Cant believe they left him out in the first place...hes experienced playin against the indians which i think can help a great deal...
Afridis a class player ...he better be playing 2morrow..
also we can do without Sami ,,,,and in with rana...hes alot more focused i think and deserves a chance

It was pretty obvious that he wasn't gonna be dropped. Just after the 1st poor performance as a vc.
I hope he gets his rythm back with the bat and do somethings in the field, that is, CATCH MORE OFTEN, that he just couldn't do in the 1st test.
IMHO, Younis is best in the circle, he can get run outs and can catch. The pressure builds even more when he is put in slips after becoming a vc and that pressure haunts him if he makes a mistake. I say we put someone who can catch in slips, an alert fielder and leave Khan sahib in the circle to do some catching or even run-outs.

Inzi says there'll be only 2 changes for the 2nd Test. One of the openers and one of the bowlers. Looks like Butt is out but Taufiq stays in. So does Younis Khan. This means Yasir Hameed comes in, but Shoaib Malik and Afridi stay out. The only bowling change would then be Arshad in place of Rana.

I'd say I have to agree with Inzi... Taufiq should be given another Test or two to prove himself, and Younis might still come in handy. Yasir Hameed will give us stability in the top order, and Arshad Khan will keep things tight from one bowling end, allowing Kaneria to attack more. Perhaps Sami should've been dropped too, but they say it'll be a green wicket for the first day or two.

^ Well all talk about Younis being dropped has been given rest by Inzi saab. I am still not sure about Taufeeq playing instead of Salman though like I always I hope Taufeeq the dancer clicks. In my opinion, playing Afridi top of the order will be like wasting a wicket. Yes we can argue all day that our openers are not that great either but at least odds of an opener are higher than Afridi at top of the order :-/

As much as I agree with dropping Salman Butt, I am really surprised to see Younis still in the squad. That must be the Vice Captain bonus. Otherwise I can’t think of any reason.

Yes, being VC does have it's privileges, but aside from Inzimam and Youhana, Younis IS our most experienced batsman.

I saw it coming. Though most of us wanted to axe Butt, Taufeq and Younis along with one change in bowling line meant 4 players out of 11 which is a big change and shows “panic” in the house and this is last thing a captain/coach would want.
I still don’t want Taufeeq to play, I’d rather see Salman play the game.

Pakistan needed just another extra bowler to the side from Mohali.
Shahid Afrid can be that ideal bowler + a useful bat.
With Naveed doubtful Arshad khan can replenish the spin attack, with Sami & Razz sharing the new ball.
Thats all Pakistan needs right now. Taufeeq & Butt cannot be discarded just like that. They have to improve on thier techniques which comes by playing and not sitting in the dressing room. Fielding is another area which will be the deciding factor of their IN or OUT of the team.
Its more or worse of an anticipated disaster if Pakistan Steps in with 1 or 2 irregular openers.
I think Inzi is correct in relying on spinners to carry the load. :elmo:
