I really would rather not see Umar Gul play. He's a very, very ordinary bowler (at least right now). Someone with more experience from domestic circuit should've been given a chance.

What do people play domestic cricket for if the team is always going to be picked from the same pool of players regardless of how limited and ordinary they are?

Kamran on the hand hand is fine. I don't expect a stellar performance from him but at least this gives him exposure. And a talented guy like him deserves more chances especially since Moin looks totally jaded.

sambrialian bhai I agree 100% with you, Moin Khan is any ways over the fence he could never climb back.

coing to sleep will be back at start of 2nd test match.

good news for Pak fans. Shabbir is playing as are Kaneria and Kamran. good start for us.

**Kamran, Kaneria set to play today as injured Moin misses out **

From our correspondent

LAHORE: Pakistan’s veteran wicketkeeper Moin Khan has been ruled out of the second Test against India with a groin injury and said he would make a comeback for the third match in Rawalpindi.

“It is very disappointing to sit out like this. But I had no choice because the groin is giving me lot of problem and pain and I would not have lasted five days.”

“I will be undergoing more tests on Monday after which I would know how serious the injury really is,” Moin stated. The veteran of 68 Tests and 205 One-day Internationals had only made a comeback to the Pakistan team last year against South Africa in the Test series after spending time on the sidelines since April 2001.

**His replacement, young Kamran Akmal was all smiles at his God send opportunity to cement his place in the team and stated he was not feeling nervous or any pressure as he had been regularly playing domestic cricket.

“I have been in good form in the domestic matches for National Bank and Lahore and hopefully I will carry that form in this Test match also.” Kamran said he was happy to get the breakthrough to play for Pakistan against India. “Playing against India has always been my dream. It is finally coming true,” he added.**

Kamran is not stranger to international cricket, having played four Test matches and eight one-dayers in Zimbabwe and South Africa in 2002-2003 when Rashid Latif was injured and his last appearance was against Bangladesh in the five-match one-day series last September when Rashid was banned by the International Cricket Council.

Kamran said he had concentrated and worked very hard on improving his keeping behind the stumps, more than his batting.

Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq said that Moin would remain with the team until the third Test in Rawalpindi.

Team sources said that the team management had decided against changing the opening pair of Taufeeq Umar and Imran Farhat who had two century partnerships against South Africa at this very ground last October.

“The only changes would be Danish Kaneria replacing Saqlain Mushtaq and perhaps Asim Kamal playing in place of Abdul Razzaq,” a source said added that Shabbir Ahmed had also made a good recovery from his shin problem.

But he made it clear that no final decision has been taken on dropping Razzaq because the team management had in mind that he could be prove to be an effective fourth seamer on a green wicket.

Yes - bring back Danesh Kaneria is good thinking - Saqlain's prime is over - can't really say about Shabbir Ahmed - he has been really struggling to find his line and length as of late

Hasn't the match started yet?

SO toss is already done?

Who replaced Razzler?

Yep Dravid won the toss - opted to bat... Inzi said he's ok with bowling first as well...

Kamal, Akmal, Kaneria and Gul are in

kamran akmal, asim kamal , umer gul , danish are in...

saqlain out, razzaq injured, shabbir injured, moin injured..

I haven't seen Umer Gul bowl.. but reading some comments here by other posters, seems like he is a fairly ordinary bowler.. whose only skill is to keep ball on the wickets and hoping the batsmen make a mistake.

Yes,Umer gul is very ordinary. He doesn't look threatening but he has an height advantage that might surprise the batsmen by his bouncers. He is a much better fit for ODI. What really happened to our fasties? that is all we have shabbir and umer? please noooooooooo. Personally I don't really expect Umer gul to be successful against the mighty indian batting lineup. I hope..I'm wrong.

Faisal bhai, I'm sorry your batsman Razzaq is out of the team :D

what about Nazir and others ?

whole team kya hai

Taufiq Umer
Imran Farhat
Yasir Hameed
Inzi
Youhana
Asim Kamal
Kamram Akmal
Shoaib akhtar
Muhammed SAmi
Danish kaneria
Umer gul

the positives for this match for Pakistan are

1) Steve Bucknor
2) Track Record of Indian Cricket Team - they have frittered away advantage quite a few times over the past two-three years by going up in the series and then losing it.

Seriously people do you think Danish Kaneria would pose a challenge ? I for one dont think so! If someone can do stuff here it would be shoaib and Sami.

Is Asim Kamal a allrounder? if no then Pakistan have chosen to go into the match with four bowlers?

Hopefully he will show his capabilities in this match

If we don't claim any wicket before the first session then we are in deep trouble. There will be some movement and bounce in the beginning. It's all upto sami and Shoaib to give us the good start.

Interesting , Imran didn't participate in the pre game analysis. Ramiz took his place instead.
