I really would rather not see Umar Gul play. He's a very, very ordinary bowler (at least right now). Someone with more experience from domestic circuit should've been given a chance.

I agree. whatever happened to Rao Iftikhar, the guy with an outstanding outswinger?
And whoevere reported the Shoaib Akhter asking out of the team, pls atleast check the source. The News also claimed Youhana had the grass shaved off the pitch, which we all know isnt the truth. So don't pay too much attention to The News and its anonymous sources.

True. The News is beginning to lose credibility. They were wrong about Iftikhar Rao and also about Yoyo being the guy behind the pitch.
Re - Iftikhar Rao: One would think that if this Rao guy does have an outstanding outswinger like we've been told time and again that the selectors would throw him in against India's strokemakers. Someone like him would have a much better chance of picking up wickets than Umar Gul unimaginative medium pace line and length bowling.

What do people play domestic cricket for if the team is always going to be picked from the same pool of players regardless of how limited and ordinary they are?
Kamran on the hand hand is fine. I don't expect a stellar performance from him but at least this gives him exposure. And a talented guy like him deserves more chances especially since Moin looks totally jaded.

exactly...i have seen umar gul bowling in NZ series and he is not even average.....he is a very ordinary medium pacer.............my only question is why the hell rio ifthikhar was brought into the camp and then kicked out without letting him play even one match (and it becomes more ironic when your fast bowling is performing so bad anyways......) the guy has taken close to 250 wickets in 47 matches...the most successful in last season....but just imagine how demoralized ifthikhar should be when he was kicked out for no obvious reasons...........this *iin bari is a piece of *............very traditional guy......anyway, the only good thing is that umar bowls straight within himself and that may give him somesuccess
What are you crying for? There could be some loss of “batting” capability, but then Moin was running out of form too. I don’t think it would be a big loss. In fact could be very good for Kamran. Wish all the best to Kamran and our team

Neither Geo nor PTV has reported the omission of Shabbir from tomorrow's match. One report suggests he is injured but might well play tomorrow. I really hope he does. He can be deadly on grassy pithces. Remember Peshawar and what he did to Tendulkar, and Laxman. I hope he plays.

This will be a big blow. I think Shabbir has huge talent.I am more impressed with him than Sami. With his hight and that action he can get be deadly on bouncy wickets.
Alas That guys just need a good coach. Alas Pakistani think tank doesnt think bowling coach is worth anything.
LAHORE: Express fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar was so dejected with his performance in the series against India that on Friday he offered to withdraw from the second Test match against India.
Team sources confirmed that Shoaib had told captain Inzamam-ul-Haq and coach Javed Miandad that he was not keen to play the second Test as he was totally disappointed with his own form and had let the team down.
“Shoaib offered to step down in the larger interest of the team saying he was not enjoying peak form at the moment against India. But was told that instead of feeling depressed and disappointed he should just concentrate on making amends in the second Test as he remained the team’s main strike bowler,” a source said.
The “Rawalpindi Express” had gone wicket-less in the first Test defeat to India in Multan, returning figures of none for 119, the first time he has failed to take any wicket in a Test match at home.
“Inzamam and Miandad told Shoaib that it would not be right for him to withdraw from such an important Test when the team was still depending a lot on him,” he added.
“Shoaib then agreed to play the second Test.”
The world’s fastest bowler was unable to bowl on Thursday and Friday in the Pakistan nets due to sore knees and then an upset stomach but on Saturday morning he sent down a couple of overs as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Shaharyar Khan also visited the nets and watched the players train.
The source said that the captain had given Shoaib and the other bowlers a piece of his mind before the fifth day’s play in Multan and since then the fast bowler had been feeling down and depressed.
“Inzamam simply told Shoaib and Sami that it was time they delivered and the team could no longer be depending on their reputations,” the source added.
Shoaib took 27 wickets in Pakistan’s three Test wins against Bangladesh, South Africa and New Zealand since last August.

Sometimes I wonder why is it only me who thinks that there is absolutely no doubt that Shabbir chucks and please I am not saying this simply because I know he was reported for this some time ago.
I just saw him bowl in this series...and I must say that in his case(unlike Akhtar's) it is not a matter of "mere suspicion" that he chucks...because his action leaves nothing to doubt.... I mean you can so clearly see his arm bent in a "throw like" action when he makes the final jump in the air before he delivers the ball.
There are two things I say the ICC must stop being so flexible about :
(1) Chuckers
(2) Erroneous LBW decisons. How long can you let CRICKET be a matter of luck when it comes to LBW decisions. I think field umpires should be able to refer LBW decisions to Third Umpires.

YES.. He chucks. But I was talking about his bowling discounting the chucking factor.
talking about LBW. I think umpire inthe middle is in bets position to do so. ! We dont wana keep those guy in the middle for just counting balls. Do we. ?
Sometimes I wonder how come newspaper in India get info before Jang and dawn. Are the weak in reporting or they just copy from TOI and rediff.

It appeared in this morning's jang edition and it appeared Later in the indian site. So in this case, your statement doesnt hold. :p

I dont think so...with today's technology (see the hawkeye graphics) a TV Umpire can make LBW decisions. And yes, if the Umpires are gonna be just counting balls...so be it..... atleast outcomes of cricket matches will not be decided by wrong decisions...having said that I am not saying that the field umpires will not make any LBW decisions...all that I am saying is that they should give the "benefit of doubt" to the "TV umpire" not to batsman or the bowler.....and this should be for all decisions like caught behind / bat-pad catches etc.

Yes. Shabbir is streets ahead of Gul as far as bowling ability is concerned. For the Pak team's sake, I hope Shabbir is fit. Gul might get a couple of wickets with his unimaginative line and length dibbly dobblers if the batsmen are in an attacking mood and make a mistake. But he will not be creating any chances with his own bowling. But then again which Pak bowler has done that consistently in this series?
Whatever the final outcome of this series, I think it has become apparent that we need to have a look at our bowling reserves. We should start evaluating guys like Abdul Rauf, Zahid Saeed, Junaid Zia (don't hammer me, he's done well lately) and others as potential Pak bowlers. If Sami and Shoaib can't produce some decent spells with regularity, they should at least know that there are some good bowlers waiting eagerly for the Pak cap.

agreed. Bari has time and again presided over some of the worst drubbings of the Pak team.
This Shehryar Khan guy seems really conservative and traditional in his decision making. I hope he realizes that cricket in Pak has lost footing many a times in Pakistan when the team has done poorly. He should stop revelling in the commercial success of the series and worry a bit about the team's performance too. If the team continues the way it has, people who've grown up watching the Pak team of the 90s will probably even stop following Pak in ODIs.
