And Ishant is gone. Lee takes five.
India 532 ALL OUT...lead of 69

Re: 2nd Test Australia vs. India at Sydney Jan 02-06 2008
If it was up to me....I would play Pathan instead of Jaffer and have Pathan open with Dravid. I have no doubts in my mind that Pathan is a better batsman than Jaffer on lively pitches (esp against short balls).
But to do that would be way too radical for Indian team management...I could expect such things from Greg Chappel but not from the current mgmt.
that is a good idea.

Great inngs by Laxman and Tendulkar.
69 is nothing of a lead for Australia, let's see if Indian bowlers can restric Australia.
result is possible.

It is a significant lead. It provides a time cushion for the Indian team to go for a draw if India does not bowl them out under 330-350. I'll say the game is in India's favor ( for a draw) which I'll celebrate no less than a win.
Re: 2nd Test Australia vs. India at Sydney Jan 02-06 2008
One wicket needed.

We are a long way away from celebrating an Indian 'win'. :D

Yes, a DRAW is likely...and that would certainly be an achievement for India.
But don't underestimate India's ability to wilt under pressure in the second innings just yet.
Ponting has this habit of setting very sporting targets....and I am afraid he may get India back in to bat before the close of the 4th day play.
Re: 2nd Test Australia vs. India at Sydney Jan 02-06 2008
Do you guys think Kumble and Harbhajan can do some wonder on Day 4 wicket against Australia?
Re: 2nd Test Australia vs. India at Sydney Jan 02-06 2008
I think that the game is very interestingly poised. The thought of equalling the world record of 16 wins will surely play on Australia's mind and knowing how courageous they are, they will surely go for a win at the risk of losing this test. Unless India commits a complete harakiri which I think they wont (particularing in this test), this test match promises a very thrilling ending.

In order to put India to bat for say 6-7 overs before the end of the 4th day, and there by giving India say 300 to chase in the next 90 + 6 overs, Australia will have to score 356 runs in 84 overs which even by their standards is relatively tough on a 4th day pitch.

yeah exactly, i think that 16 wins record is going to push aussies to up the scoring rate tomorrow so they can declare and push for a win
and imo, guys giving too much credit to aussies, if it was not for that terrible umpiring, India would be looking to wrap this game up

well put. Pitch is turning and there is some cracks showing. It would be difficult for Australians to score at 4 an over to put India in tomorrow.
Some1 u should cheer up. We all know that India is capable of wilting under pressure. But its a great achievement indeed to outscore australia in the first innings.
Re: 2nd Test Australia vs. India at Sydney Jan 02-06 2008
All you Indian fans should be very proud of the character shown by the teakm. Dravid, clearly struggling, hung in there and was prepared to work hard and toil. Laxman's century, which I think was maybe even more important than Sachin's, was a huge momentum shifter.
Don't forget Ganguly's innings and the way he attacked and played good positive cricket. Tendulkar was impressive running between wickets and hitting the odd boundary. I think it was a real mistake of Ponting's to just give Tendulkar the single once Harbhajan got in. It really allowed him to settle and accumulate.
Tail, in particular Harbhajan, were exceptional. Yuvraj needs to play straight. He needs to realise the difference between Tests and ODI's and play accordingly. He has so much talent. It would be a waste to see him go.
I agree with Some1 in that Jaffer needs to go. He missed a full toss. It was fast, yes, and swinging late but it still should be negotiated. Singh was digging out 150km/h reverse swinging yorkers for singles so thats no excuse.
Sharma, though wicketless, bowled better than his figures suggested. He does have a lovely angle across the left handers and could be a good prospect. Sehwag, even as badly out of touch as he is, will probably come into consideration unless Jaffer does something special.
Draw is most likely though I remember a similar situation in Adelaide 4 years ago where Agarkar took a 6-fer. If India can make inroads with the new ball and then the spinners bowl well, they have a real chance.
Draw will be great for India, it'll end streak and make a whitewash impossible. But a victory will be so valuable considering the next Test is in Perth where I don't have much faith in the batting line-up.
Re: 2nd Test Australia vs. India at Sydney Jan 02-06 2008
Great innings by the little master and real legend of the game.
Re: 2nd Test Australia vs. India at Sydney Jan 02-06 2008
India can get Australia out tomorrow around 250......Harbhajan and Kumble doing the trick. That would be something to watch. Hopefully my FTA will be up and running by then and I can catch it on CBN!
