Well i think it’s time pakistan kicked out hafeez, he’s pretty useless, and they need to include Rehman in the squad for sure to strengthen the bowling;

Akmal
Butt

Yousuf
malik
Misbah
shahid afridi
Tanveer
Rehman
iftiakar
Gul

^ Not like any of this will matter, the scripts written;

South Africa to assess security after blasts

Osman Samiuddin

October 19, 2007

South Africa will assess the security situation following twin blasts in Karachi late on Thursday that killed approximately 130 people and injured over 500. A decision on the tour is expected later today.

Michael Owen-Smith, South Africa’s media manager, said: "The safety and security of the team is paramount at all times. We have been shocked by the news and our thoughts are with those who lost their loved ones and with those who have been injured.

“Beyond this point, we now consult Cricket South Africa officials with the PCB and with our own security consultants before taking any decision. The situation is fluid. I can’t comment or speculate further as we first need to assess the incident.”

Karachi is due to host the final ODI on October 29 and the blasts occurred near the National Stadium. The attacks were directed at the motorcade of the returning former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

South Africa cut short their tour of Sri Lanka last year following a bomb blast in Colombo near the team hotel. Several countries have refused to tour Pakistan in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks in 2001. New Zealand abandoned their tour in 2002, following a blast outside their team hotel in Karachi, which the players described the incident as the “trauma of their lives”. However, the situation in the last couple of years has normalised, with teams agreeing to play matches in the city.

South Africa’s last tour to the country, in 2003, was also shortened after a bomb blast in Karachi, a venue they eventually avoided. However, they played a warm-up game there before winning the first Test in Karachi on the current tour.

*Rehman may replace Hafeez for next ODI *

Friday, October 19, 2007
By Khalid Hussain

KARACHI: Left-arm spinner Abdul Rehman is expected to play in the second one-dayer against South Africa in Lahore tomorrow, replacing all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez in the playing eleven.

“The News” learnt here through reliable sources that the **national selectors are not happy with the performance of Hafeez as an opener **and believe that wicket-keeper batsman Kamran Akmal can do a better job at the top of the batting order.

Sources said that the selectors have decided to induct Abdul Rehman in the playing eleven because they believe Pakistan need another specialist bowler in the absence of their main pacer Mohammad Asif, who is nursing an elbow injury.

Asif missed the first one-dayer in Lahore which Pakistan lost by 45 runs on Thursday. He will also be missing the next one-dayer and may in fact have to sit out of the entire ODI series that concludes with the final game in Karachi on October 29.

According to the sources, Rehman will be brought back in the squad with the hopes that the Sialkot-born spinner will manage to carry his good Test form into the one-dayers and help consolidate the hosts’ bowling attack that looks pretty ordinary in the absence of top class bowlers like Asif and Shoaib Akhtar, who is currently under suspension over misconduct.

Rehman, 27, made an impressive Test debut in Karachi earlier this month where he took eight wickets in a lost cause. He was retained for the Lahore Test but could only take three wickets. He has played five one-dayers, taking seven wickets.

Pakistan team’s think-tank is of the view that Rehman might help contain the South Africans, who posted 294 in the first one-dayers with AB de Villiers and Herschelle Gibbs smashing centuries.

Rehman will most likely be replacing the under-performing Hafeez in the playing line-up. The all-rounder bowled ten overs for 44 runs on Thursday but flopped as an opener, falling just for six runs.

Hafeez is a talented batsman with the additional skills of an off-spinner but has been quite inconsistent since making his international debut four years back. He was dropped for the Lahore Test after failing to impress in the first Test in Karachi.

Sources said that *Pakistan have decided to bring back Shoaib Akhtar in the squad for the fifth one-dayer in Karachi * to bolster the pace attack. Shoaib, 32, is serving a ban for hitting Mohammad Asif with a cricket bat and other episodes of indiscipline but will be available for national duty after the fourth one-dayer against South Africa.

this one should b an interesting encounter...

Re: 2nd ODI: Pak vs SA Gaddafi Stadium Lahore 20th Oct 2007

If you want to win against SA, you must take early wickets and put pressure on them. When your bowling attack consists of Rao+Tanvir you are doomed. Sohail Tanvir is inexperienced and Rao, well, no comment.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pak vs SA Gaddafi Stadium Lahore 20th Oct 2007

will be intersting

Re: 2nd ODI: Pak vs SA Gaddafi Stadium Lahore 20th Oct 2007

with out your experienced blowers like Shoaib & Asif it's not easy to take early wickets .... Sohail Tanvir was playing his first one day n he perfermed superbly ... with the bat & bowl ... off course in a debut match you got some pressure on ... but he was well the bat ... Hope he continues his form in upcoming match as well.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pak vs SA Gaddafi Stadium Lahore 20th Oct 2007

Aray bhai lets get away from the same old, try and kick out mindset …can we?
Butt not clicking…kick out..try hafeez.
Hafeez failed, kick out let put in Akmal…And for that matter AKMAL :smack:
He is not an opener.
I’d rather have Afridi open with Hafeez or Nazir with Hafeez.
Lets not talk about what we used to critize INZI and woolmer of doing…

I would say give Butt and Nazir another chance at the top. Too much shuffling at the top will not get you anything.

That’s my du kori kee advice for you.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pak vs SA Gaddafi Stadium Lahore 20th Oct 2007

Why did Asif not play in the Ist ODI and is he going to play in the series at all?

Without an experienced seemer, it will be tough..

Re: 2nd ODI: Pak vs SA Gaddafi Stadium Lahore 20th Oct 2007

he was suppose to be out for a week and they were initially hoping that Asif will play the first ODI, didn't happen. And now we don't know as PCB don't like to keep fans in the loop :)

Re: 2nd ODI: Pak vs SA Gaddafi Stadium Lahore 20th Oct 2007

I think Nazir should get an other chance, and since PCB doesn’t include any other decent bowler so they will end up playing all three same seamers. However, it is 50 overs game, and they should stop experimenting with Gul. Rather give new ball to Gul and Tanvir, so that they could get an early breakthrough. Rao could contain runs but he is not a bowler who will get them an early wicket with new ball.

If Gul get wicket on one hand, Tanvir could produce another from other end.

So my squad will be:

  1. I. Nazir
  2. K. Akmal
  3. Y. Khan
  4. M. Yousaf
  5. M. Haq
  6. S. Malik
  7. S. Afridi
  8. S. Tanvir
  9. A. Rehman
  10. I. Rao
  11. U. Gul

They must utilize Gul and Tanvir with new ball.

P.S. Wish they had Mansoor Amjed in 15 squad. He is a good alrounder.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pak vs SA Gaddafi Stadium Lahore 20th Oct 2007

  1. Gul
  2. Rao
  3. Afridi
  4. Tanvir
  5. Yousaf
  6. Younus
  7. Haq
  8. Malik
  9. Rehman
  10. Nazir
  11. Akmal

What a lineup!!

Re: 2nd ODI: Pak vs SA Gaddafi Stadium Lahore 20th Oct 2007

I am just fascinated. Should have booked the match on a weekday. After an eternity of watching all kinds of matches initiate sometime close to midnight, suffice to say, weekends aren't really our cup of tea.

It escapes my mind as to why on earth would a captain want to be put in a position where he is no longer viewed as a captain - but rather someone who was included at the last-minute. A number 8 position?
