27 killed as violence spreads in Karachi

**KARACHI: Interior Minister Rehman Malik ruled out any ‘operation’ in Karachi on Sunday, but talking to newsmen after a renewed wave of target killings left at least 18 people dead and several others wounded said that police and Rangers would work together to restore order.
**
The daylong violence caused the authorities to once again impose a ban on pillion riding that Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Wasan had lifted about a fortnight ago.

**While the situation had been tense in Malir and Landhi amid gunbattles between groups going on for the past few days, violence spread to other parts of the city with attacks on a restaurant and a sweetmeat shop on Sunday. There were reports of two rocket attacks in Malir.
**
Commercial areas were shut and residents stayed indoors with several localities reverberating with gunfire.
The worst-hit areas were Malir, Landhi, North Karachi, Surjani, F.B. Area, Baldia, Lyari and Orangi. The law-enforcers stayed away from trouble spots and were seen only on main roads.
Mr Malik said President Asif Ali Zardari had summoned a meeting to review the law and order situation in the city and other parts of the province.

The meeting has been called amid allegations by MQM leaders about patronage of criminals by some ministers and an appeal made by the Mohajir Qaumi Movement (Haqiqi) to the president to take notice of what it described as “the political aggression and terrorism against the MQM-H and its members” and to provide them security.

There is a possibility that some decisions would be taken at the meeting about deployment of law-enforcement agencies in the city to address people’s concerns.
Mr Malik said all parties would have to work hand in hand to restore peace.

According to sources, development projects in Lyari are likely to be given priority at the meeting and a package is expected to be announced.

Meanwhile, federal Minister Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah called on Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan on Sunday. The minister said the federal government would extend all possible assistance to the province in its efforts to maintain law and order and political harmony.
According to a statement issued after the meeting, the two leaders agreed that the entire country needed restoration of law and order in Karachi.

The chief minister also presided over a meeting held to review the situation in the city. He asked the Sindh Rangers and police chiefs to take ruthless action against miscreants and maintain peace and tranquillity.
Additional Chief Secretary (home) Waseem Ahmed said the ban on pillion riding would remain in force till further orders. He said senior citizens and women would be exempted from the ban.

i read somewhere … these animals are using sophisticated weapons like machine guns, assault rifles such as the AK-47 and .222 rifles. … from where do they get all these weapons ???

shame on them … they cant even handle one city properly!! … i hate their drama how these so called parties are urging others to calm down and help restore peace… whn they are doing it themselves!! its gonna come back and hit them too .. if they think … they are here to stay in power for the rest of their lives !!

Re: 27 killed as violence spreads in Karachi

As long Karachi is hijacked by blood sucker mqm, Karachi will remain as killing field for mostly innocent people. According to interior minister, even killing machines have been imported from Israel for killing people of Karachi.

Re: 27 killed as violence spreads in Karachi

Have you ever heard that anyone killed ever in Sindh province on raciest bases except Karachi,
This is reply for you if you can understand, but I don't hope

Re: 27 killed as violence spreads in Karachi

forget sindh .. these things dont even happen in other big cities!!! y only in Karachi???

Re: 27 killed as violence spreads in Karachi

Because a raciest mafia is controlling and our dirty media and intermediate pass intellectuals are supporting them. Why this happened, Actually the don't want to see people of this province united, if 'bloody civilians'are united . it can damage their business.

Re: 27 killed as violence spreads in Karachi

This is all because of that racist Sindh PPP minister, Zulfiqar Mirza and Co.
He is on the record saying that Afaq Ahmad of Muhajir Qaumi Movement is the representative of "muhajir". And he appealed all Urdu speakers to get away from Muttaheda. (Ironically, these two statements are mutually exclusive, which shows the low mental capacity of Mirza).

It's only after Mirza met with Afaq that we have started seeing the resurgence of MQM-H, starting with killings of MQM members.

This proves yet again that many in PPP Sindh are Karachi's enemies who don't want peace in the city.

Re: 27 killed as violence spreads in Karachi

It is because no other city in Sindh is controlled by Sindhis but has majority Urdu speaking population.
You must be blind to see what your racist minister said about MQM. Have some moral courage to accept the truth.

Re: 27 killed as violence spreads in Karachi

  • Because Karachi has people coming from ALL OVER the country. No other city is so much multi-cultural. For example, Karachi's Pashtun population is about 7 million, more than their population in the WHOLE province of Punjab.
  • Because Karachi is controlled by outsiders from Sindh (like Larkana and Nawabshah). These people consider Karachi a golden goose. They are like parasites who use the city only to fill their wadera-pockets. No other city in other provinces has this problem.
  • Because Karachi does not get adequate return of money it generates for the country.
  • Because Karachi's gets large number of people (100,000 by some estimates) every year. These people end up creating law and order situation in the city at much larger scale than any other city in the country. Problems like land grabbing, robberies, etc.

If MQM is the only guilty party in Karachi, as you suggest, then** why are these killings not happening in Hyderabad, which also has majority Urdu speaking population**?
And in case you don't know, Qasimabad area of Hyderabad has almost 100% Sindhi speaking population.

Re: 27 killed as violence spreads in Karachi

Again. You need to learn Karachi’s history before issuing your fatwa against MQM.
Do you even know about Pakka Qila massacre in Hyderabad and Qasba Colony/Aligarh Colony massacre in Karachi?

MQM members have definitely been involved in unlawful violent activities in the past. But to blame only MQM members for these activities in unjustified and ignorant. There have been reasons for their past violence. MQM has been systematically persecuted by various governments of Pakistan, especially from racist muta’assib people from PPP Sindh.

From 10:00 am till 4.30 pm: Historians wrote that Pathans and Afghans massacred hundreds of Urdu speaking people and burnt several of their shops and homes. The incident is remembered as the “Aligarh Colony Massacre”.
In the words of famous journalist Emma Duncan: “The day after, violence spread all over Karachi. Mobs of men armed with rifles charged into houses of other communities and left only when everything was destroyed. In counter-attacks, armed marauders on bikes and cars resorted to random killing on the roads, machine-gunning, burning and looting. Biharis in Orangi were attacked by Pathans. Non-Pathans then started killing people on the streets. During these five days, at least 200 people were killed in the riots. The violence finally diminished even though at least 243 people, according to official estimates, were killed in smaller encounters.”
The Clean-up operation in Sohrab Goth lies buried in official files; while Al-Asif Square at Sohrab Goth to this date today is being considered a safe haven for the Mafia.

http://www.massviolence.org/Thematic-Chronology-of-Mass-Violence-in-Pakistan-1947-2007?artpage=5

1988; 30 September, The Hyderabad Massacre or Black Friday: On Friday, September 30, 1988, a dozen gunmen on motorbikes or cars, said to be Sindhis militants led by Dr. Qadir Magsi and Janu Arain, fired indiscriminately at people in the streets making approximately 250 casualties (Tambiah, 1997: 173; Ahmar, 1996: 1033), mostly Muhajirs, in South Hyderabad. On October 1, when the news of the gunshot in Hyderabad reached Karachi, crowds of Muhajirs went into the streets and retaliated by burning cars and houses, looting shops and killing people, hence increasing the death toll by 60-65 deaths, mostly Sindhis (Tambiah, 1997: 173).
1990; 27 May, The Pakka Qila Massacre: A demonstration of Muhajirs, fronted by women and children, carrying the Holy Quran upon their head, braved the shoot-on-sight curfew imposed the day before due to the violence that erupted in Pakka Qila, in which two policemen and a dozen of civilians were killed (Tambiah, 1997: 174), 30 according to another estimate (Verkaaik, 2005: 146). As the demonstrators refused to hold on, the police forces opened fire at the procession resulting in the death of more than 45 Muhajirs and 250 wounded, including women and children (Kennedy, 1991: 938). The local police forces mostly composed of Sindhis and Pathans bear most of the responsibility for these killings (Tambiah, 1997: 175).
The day after, Muhajirs retaliated against Sindhis in Karachi and made at least 40 casualties (Ahmar, 1996: 1034) and then 130 in a five-day period (Haq, 1999: 999). Violence continued unabated for ten days in Hyderabad and six days in Karachi. It is only the intervention of the army that managed to bring back law and order in the province. *** (Kennedy, 1991; Ahmar, 1996; Tambiah, 1997; Haq, 1999; Verkaaik, 2005).

Re: 27 killed as violence spreads in Karachi

I was living in same area which you are quoting about 86.
And about Hyderabad I knew much more than anyone else.
Leave it ,Bhai log ki bhasha alag hoti hay,
I have already told the reason, I copy it again.
Because a raciest mafia is controlling and our dirty media and intermediate pass intellectuals are supporting them. Why this happened, Actually the don't want to see people of this province united, if 'bloody civilians'are united . it can damage their business.

Re: 27 killed as violence spreads in Karachi

PPP and ANP supporting MQM-H. MQM-A's members were killed inside their own homes. This is just like the late 80s and 90s.

Re: 27 killed as violence spreads in Karachi

Like other areas who are asking for it, Karachi needs to become a province within the bounds of Pakistan.
Locals should be given legitimacy and security control.
Police control should not be from outside the city. They have failed again and again to restore peace.
Due to ethnic similariy, there is a high chance that police has soft corner for certain ehnicities.

MQM-H should not be encouraged and possibly banned. They have no voice and their creation hurt everyone in the past.

If Karachi shuts down like this agaiin and again, economy of all Pakistan suffers. No one gets any benefit.

Not to minimize local issues, outside Pakistan elements must not be ignored also. Who knows the problem is started by some not so well wishers of Pakistan. And that is quite likely too.

Re: 27 killed as violence spreads in Karachi

oh plz khoji where did i say that ONLY mqm is involved in all this ?? i did not say this!!
infact i believe every single party is involved in this ... and certainly do not agree with you whn you try to put your party as angelic and victim!!! ... and just put the entire blame on ppp!

so kindly, refrain from blaming every other party besides yours !!
at the end of the day .. govt/police/rangers and every freaking party is responsible for all this .. .. they all failed to restore the peace as promised!!

and please guys this thread is not abt mqm ... so kindly ... stick to the topic!

Re: 27 killed as violence spreads in Karachi

Care elaborate what is this "raciest mafia"?

And you want to "leave it". Strange that when the context of Karachi's violence is presented then the response is to just ignore all that. "Just leave it"?!
Ok. But then next time please do not issue sweeping statements against MQM.

Re: 27 killed as violence spreads in Karachi

Nowhere did I say that MQM is angelic. But I do put blame of this RECENT VIOLENCE on PPP Sindh's racist leaders like Mirza.

You said earlier that these things don't happen anywhere else, except Karachi. What do you think is the reason?

Re: 27 killed as violence spreads in Karachi

Look at the history.
PPP was at its top of popularity in Karachi during 85-86.
People were favoring BB after her return. Lahore also showed the biggest ever response in the history of Lahore on her arrival.
Read this for a moment.Mir Murtaza Bhutto Shaheed ,PPP acquitted after Thirty years.
At one side they called AH from US where he was struggling for his green card and … for earning .
Other side they trapped Ghulam Sarwar Awan whose son was in custody for this hijacking case.
This was how this play was started.
