Good times for PAK to pick out of 25. Everyone is cable to shine.
Pick a squad of 16 probables. Keep Zulqarnain Haider in your squad. I mean I will keep him.
Re: 25 probables for South Africa Tour camp announced
I'm a big believer of Salman Butt. I think he can be a real asset to the team if they just give him confidence and not pull him if he fails every now and then.
Butt is a better option than Imran Farhat who always seems to get out with cut-shots to gully or third man.
Re: 25 probables for South Africa Tour camp announced
I think Shahid Afridi needs to have a secure place in the side. Even though he hasn't performed in recent times, I think its really psychological with him. If it is made clear to him that his place in the playing 11 is not under question, he will perform.
It boggles my mind how the Pakistani selectors don't understand that the key to success is consistency with your playing 11. Just look at Australia, they only make changes when there is an injury.
Re: 25 probables for South Africa Tour camp announced
Respect his opinion, he is the director of paklinks.
Salman Butt - Proved to be unconsistent batmans. One match 100 and other matches 0, 0, 2, 4 runs.
Imran Farhat - He needs to convert his 50s into 100s. He is not really considered a consistent but atleast better option than Salman Butt as he is more experienced.
Muhammad Hafeez - Better spinner than Shoaib Malik, and equal fielder to him. He has quite a bit opening experience. He is likely to perform better than Salman Butt and consistent as well.
Yasir Hameed - Oh he is the best, especially at one down position. He is the most consistent among the openers. He has weaknesses, but he is better player than all of them. It is eager to watch his drives.

seriously...he can only fit in at no 6 or 7. A pinch hitter allrounder.
Re: 25 probables for South Africa Tour camp announced
And how did I "disrespect" ? I respect him and he knows that, you mind your own business, clear? Next time don't tell me who to respect and who not to. Besides, I don't respect a person due to his title or seat, I respect someone for his person. Lets keep this discussion out of here now.

Which opener in your opinion is 'consistent'?

Imran Farhat is another Afridi, with slightly more control over his adrenaline rush.

Mohammad Hafeez is good, I am not asking to axe him, rather keep a trio of Salman, Hafeez and Yasir Hameed, rotation once in a while will keep them on toes and keep performing.

Agree with your suggestion of keeping a trio, but though Farhat drop more catches than he holds on to, but otherwise he is a better fielder than Butt. For that only reason, I think PAK should keep a trio of Farhat, Yasir and Hafeez. This way they will have a backup for openers as well as for Younis. It can also be utilized for Yousaf or Inzi; if PAK need a replacement in the event of injury for any one of these three (Younis, Yousaf or Inzi) they can easily play all three (Yasir, Hafeez and Farhat/butt) at top three positions and allow any available twos from Inzi, Younis and Yousaf for 4, and 5 position.
Basically, I am suggesting to utilize first 5 position among Yasir, Hafeez, Farhat/Butt, Younis, Yousaf and Inzi, and 6 and 7 should be shared by Malik, Razzaq and Afridi, 8 for Akmal/Z. Haider, 9. Shoaib, 10. Asif/Gul 11. Kaneria for test matches.
Re: 25 probables for South Africa Tour camp announced
A slight sigh on noticing Butt's entrance back in. I am wondering if this is too soon for him to make his return. I definitely prefer to have him over Farhat in all areas of cricket (headwear included) but the big thing is with his adrenaline rush, as you had indicated. One bad performance and he will be sitting on that bench once again. The guy has a potential to be in the driving seat, but I am keen to know if this is the right time for him to get his feet wet.
Re: 25 probables for South Africa Tour camp announced
I dont think so there will be any tinkering with the openers, How Akmal performs in SA (ODI's) will give us answers, which opening pair (Hafeez & Farhat, Hafeez & Akmal / Farhat & Akmal) will perform best coz this is not the time to make whole-sale changes and I think Yasir will make the cut after decent performance against WI. This also allow the team to have Rehman in the playing 11 and less headache for the think-tank.
IMO Butt and Yasir are better opening pair than Farhat and Hafeez, however butt's butter-finger's and yasir's slashing outside the off-stump, can be corrected easily than Farhat's hyper (axe-in-the-foot shot) throwing away wicket shots, and Hafeez technical flaws. BUT love affair of the coach with all-rounders will certainly win them (hafeez and farhat) a place in 16.
Re: 25 probables for South Africa Tour camp announced
Good to see Salman Butt back, he is definitely a long term option and he will come good Inshallah. Just watch him play, he struggles hard and tries his best to stay there unlike Farhat who tries his best to get out as soon as he scores 20 or 30.
Re: 25 probables for South Africa Tour camp announced
Meh.
I fully agree but he has NOT been selected in final 16 man squad and it's highly unlikely that he will play any games in South Africa, his inclusion does give him a positive message that he is still in selector's eyes and he should try his best to keep performing as he is not too far away from getting selected.
Re: 25 probables for South Africa Tour camp announced
Even though its hard to argue against the quality of players in this list of 25, but Iam disappointed by the absence of new blood. Pcb and other decision makers have once again lost an opportunity to groom players for the future, tour of SA cud have done wonders for our new quickies, then again it would revive the much needed disreupted career of our crooked oldies (Shabbira). Jhatka, drug offender are acceptable but new talent is risky? what kind of logic and justice is this? Bhaar Haal, hoon thay kuch naheen hosaktha....asse kee karan...dur fitay...
Re: 25 probables for South Africa Tour camp announced
At least Farhat gets to 20 or 30…Butt saab gets out without troubling the scorers or maybe 1 or 2? But nonetheless, I think both dont have the technique to be sucessful on those seaming and bouncy pitches against quality bowling. Infact, I think none of our batsmen do, thus, we have such a poor record. I really hope Yousuf will continue his good form, thats our only hope.
