25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

Re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

for now these are only words... i will wait till they prove it with actions. and i wonder if drones come under any category of violations?

plus this retaliating with whatever means they have is a joke, AK47s, mortars and light anti aircraft guns are of no use against apache and other modern fighter aircrafts. MANPADs (only good for apache and some low flying bombers) AA batteries and other SAM systems remain to be deployed.

Re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

Yeah right a few instances of respecting the sovereignty:

drone attacks, unilateral OBL operation, attacks on Pakistani checkposts, control over some Pakistani air bases and not even letting Pakistan use them in emergency situations like Jacobabad floods, not vacating Shamsi when requested in June and the list goes on and on.

Highest regard for Pakistan’s sovereignty: Hillary Clinton
**LAHORE: Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani received a phone call from US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Saturday evening.

**The secretary conveyed her personal condolences on the deaths of Pakistani soldiers. She added that the attack was not intentional and that we must wait for the outcome of the investigation.

**She said that the US has the highest regard for Pakistan’s sovereignty. This incident should not be allowed to jeopardize the bilateral relationship as Pakistan and US have common interest, she added.
**
Clinton also raised with the prime minister the issue of Pakistan’s participation in the Bonn Conference.

Gilani responded that he had promised to refer the matter of Pakistan’s participation at Bonn to the Parliament’s National Security Committee to German Chancellor Markel when she raised it with him.

The committee has supported the decision of the Cabinet not to participate in the Bonn Conference, the Prime Minister said.

The prime minister said that Pakistan had played a positive role for peace and stability in the region and had rendered many sacrifices in fighting terrorism.%between%

The move comes in the wake of a NATO attack that left 24 soldiers killed in Mohmand Agency.

A 15-member delegation of Joint Staff Headquarters was due to leave for the US on an official visit. Lt-Gen Muhammad Asif was to lead the delegation.

However, Pak military decided to cancel the visit in response to NATO and ISAF attacks.

Pakistan has already decided not to attend the upcoming Bonn conference.

^^ Canceling Bonn and now this, what will be effects?

Re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

The result will be diverting attention .
Brave people are not going.
They have to do more work at home .
You all keep looking on memo-gate .

Re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

Gen Muhammad Asif ki chuttiyan kion kharab ker rahay hain???

Re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

Its called disengagement. What the Pakistani military and government in this case is doing is making sure that in 2 years when ISAF pulls out we have free reign to do whatever we want when we want in Afghanistan. The relationship is not being reexamined. It is being buried.

This is actually interesting as Pakistani military ties have been far stronger than civilian ties in the past 40 years. So the Military is forcing a complete abandonment of relations with the US. The consequences will be severe and far reaching. The first would be no more support to Pakistan after the next elections. And potentially being treated like Iran.

Re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

A few days back you were very excited that Nawaz Sharif is taking memogate to SC, what happened now that you have started to feel that NS is patching up with the establishment?

http://www.dawn.com/2011/12/05/pakistan-wants-to-rebuild-ties-with-us-says-gilani.html

Pakistan wants to rebuild ties with US, says Gilani
**LAHORE: Pakistan wants to rebuild its ties with the United States despite ongoing retaliation over deadly Nato air strikes on its troops along the Afghan border, the country’s prime minister said on Monday, stressing that he believes “it won’t take long” to achieve a new relationship with its uneasy ally.

**Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani’s remarks indicate that Pakistan is looking for a way to restore some normalcy to ties with Washington following the November 26 air strikes by the US-led coalition in Afghanistan, but wants to leverage the situation to try and reset the relationship in ways more beneficial to Pakistan.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Gilani also said the country remained committed to working with Afghanistan to bring insurgent leaders – many of whom are believed to be on Pakistani soil and to enjoy close relations with Islamabad’s security forces – into talks with the government and allow the US to begin withdrawing its troops as it is committed to doing.

“I think we have evolved some mechanisms, and we are ready to cooperate,” he said, referring to meetings with Afghanistan’s military and intelligence chiefs on a framework for talks. “We are committed (to reconciliation), despite that we are not attending” the conference on Afghanistan, he said.

That may offer some reassurance to international leaders meeting in Bonn, Germany, to discuss the future of Afghanistan.

Islamabad boycotted the talks because of the air strikes along the Pakistan-Afghan border that killed 24 Pakistani troops. The decision disappointed Afghan and Western leaders, who realize the vital role Pakistan has in any future stability in neighbouring Afghanistan even as they complain that it tolerates, or even supports, insurgents along the border.

Pakistan refused pleas by Afghan and US leaders to attend the Bonn conference. Gilani said he did not regret skipping the meeting, saying “since the soil of Afghanistan was used against Pakistan in the Nato raids, there was a tremendous protest in my country and people were putting pressure that we not attend.”

Speaking in Germany, US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton called the deaths of the Pakistani soldiers tragic and reiterated a pledge for a thorough investigation. “No one is more interested than the United States in getting to the bottom of what happened in the border incident,” she said.

President Barack Obama called Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari on Sunday to offer his condolences. No one from either Nato or the US has formally apologised, but they have disputed comments by Pakistan’s army that the act was a deliberate act of aggression.

Gilani said new ties being negotiated with the US would ensure that the two countries “respected each other’s red lines” regarding sovereignty and rules of engagement along the border. While he gave few details, he made it clear he thought this was both desirable and possible.

“We really want to have good relations with the US based on mutual respect and clearly defined parameters,” he said in an interview at his residence. “I think that is doable. I think that it won’t take long.”

Washington and Islamabad have given differing accounts of what led to the air strikes on the Pakistan army posts last month, in what is at least the third such incident along the porous and poorly defined border since 2008.

US officials have said the incident occurred when a joint US and Afghan patrol requested air support after coming under fire. The US checked with the Pakistan military to see if there were friendly troops in the area and were told there were not, they said.

Pakistan has said the coordinates given by the Americans were wrong — an allegation denied by US defence officials.%between%

This satement was issued after long meetings between super powers of Pakistan and these bloody greedy civilians
What will be impact on Mansoor and ........
Caught on boundary .
Will they ask that 24 back ?

Re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

The government is in a lot of pressure and now I think they would cave in after the Americans give an iota of apology. That's the difference between us and Iran. Iran although being on the radar for quite a few years but still is unharmed, on the other hand the situation of our country although we are the so called allies is also infront of all of us.

According to fox news Pakistanis are leaving the liaison centers.

Pakistan leaving border coordination units on Afghan border: Report
http://tribune.com.pk/story/302971/pakistan-leaving-border-coordination-units-on-afghan-border-report/
Pakistan is pulling out troops from two of the three border coordination units at the Pak-Afghan border set-up for communication between Nato and Pakistani troops in retaliation to the Nato November 26 attack, said a report by the The Associated Press.**
The report quoted US officials on the condition of anonymity saying that the move will be a set-back for Nato troops in Afghanistan as they will remain more cautious during attacks on militants in fear of making another mistake.
British newspaper The Telegraph reported earlier this month that it was the ‘error’ of the Nato troops](http://tribune.com.pk/story/302085/errors-by-us-officers-killed-pakistani-soldiers-report/) that led to the attack which killed 24 Pakistani soldiers at a checkpost in Mohmand Agency. It quoted a Pakistani officer as saying that the information given to the Pakistani border coordination unit prior to the attack was incorrect.
Relationships between Pakistan and the US have deteriorated sharply after the incident and the former has given a strong response to it by boycotting the Bonn conference in Germany, cutting off supply routes to Nato forces and shutting down the Shamsi airbase being used for the drone strikes.
(Read: PM Gilani interview: Business as usual?)
Higher authorities in the US have expressed regret over the incident; however, they have refused to issue a formal apology insisting that they will wait for the investigations into the attack to be completed before issuing any formal statement.

Re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

It seems like Pakistan is seeking revenge for attack on the soldiers. And i know what the strategy is: pull out from these coordination centres and let insurgents move in and out of Pakistan to Afghanistan freely. Therefore the attacks on Nato will increase. Pakistan doesn't have to do much..which is smart move.

Re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

nothing will happen........americans will throw a few bones to the pakistani establishment and govt. and everyone will work on purani tankhwa.............mark my words, sooner or later this is exactly what will happen.

Re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

as of today Government/Establishment is doing what they said after DCC meeting. I am a happy camper.

Re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

Military not satified with Nato inquiry

ISLAMABAD: The inquiries carried out by the North Atlantic Treat Organization (Nato) into the attacks on Pakistan’s border posts by the allied forces have never yielded results, Pakistan armed forces believed.

And the military also hopeless about the recent inquiry into the Mohmand post attack. Some highly credible sources revealed that the number coordination centers at the Pakistan-Afghan border is also being increased from 4 to 5.

The officers posted at these liaison centers were called back for consultations in apparent retaliation for NATO airstrikes that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers.

Pakistan has also decided to not to take part in any of Nato inquiry. %between%

Re: 25 Pak Soldiers killed by NATO shelling

Why is that it Pakistan is refusing to take part in the NATO inquiry. Pakistan should have taken part in the inquiry and helped to bring the truth to light. Now the scenario that is going to play out is that the inquiry will indeed say that Pakistan was informed about the attack and Pakistan okayed the attack. Pakistan is going to denounce this as sham and the blame game will go on. Is there something more to it than that meets the eye...
Not suggesting a conspiracy theory here though
