21 years old with Masters degree

I just visited thread related to CM’s achievements, he did excellent job. But I always wonder how people complete their masters in 21? is it like Pakistani style MS (2 years of BSc and 2 years of MSc which makes 16 years of education)? then yes I could have been a PhD but simple BSc Engineering takes full 4 years after high school (HSSC II) then MS takes 2 years which is so much tiresome :frowning: .

I have friend who went to UK after Highschool and completed his PhD in 6 years (including BSc, MSc and PhD). I really wonder how European education system works.

In Pakistani system it takes 16 years of education to be an Engineer (other than Architectural Engineering). How many years does it take to be an Engineer in European system? I thought they were all the same (or pretty close).

yes in Pakistani and US system it is not possible to even get bachelors degree in 21 years .. usually age is around 23-25..

Yeah, move it to “Career” section where nobody shows up… great job moderator… way to go :k:

:rotfl:

It depends. Some people do accelerated programs and its very possible. Accelerated programs put you in college while you are still in highschool.

Some Masters degrees are only 1 year in US and Canada. Some BS programs combine MS degrees.

And some people only do BS for 3 years, not four, if they take more classes, etc.

Its possible, but not very common. Especially if you started school at a younger age and planned your degree well, its possible. You have to be very dedicated. smile

How is it possible? have you not heard of young ppl in med schools in US? accelerated programs have a huge impact.

heard of demello who graduated from college at the age of 11?

That in my view is extreme, but there are plenty of people who are in accelerated classes and graduate early. I know several ppl who graduated highschool at the age of 16.

That is not that unheard of. I agree with Fraudiya. There are 6yr Medschool programs/ 5 yr Masters programs for engineers. So a doctor at 24 or a masters degree at 25 is not unheard of.

that been said, there are also degrees fro other countries where college is for three years.

finally there is always University of Phoenix. :)

Personally, I've never heard of someone getting a masters at the tender age of 21, you really have to be dedicated to achieve this so early, otherwise normally in Europe, I talk of the Austrian/German system you finish HS at age 18 or in some schools with 19 depends on which system you are going too.

After HS you may goto any university. From there it takes about around 5-7 years if you are a normal student, to do the masters(here it depends on your speed). What I know that in Switzerland, CM is from there, they have some TOP schools/uni ... he might have done his education from a private college or something, even if he completed a degree, I highly doubt that its equal to the masters or we call it (Magister). No offence to anyone.

U of Phoenix ! Ha!

Have none of you lot heard of the British girl who went to Oxford and was a professor at 18? After finishing her PhD? Now her brothers and sisters are following in the same route. Apparantly they are even more intelligent then her.....
It makes me sick.
However the girl did run away from home becasue there was too much pressure on her. How about that American boy who has finished his PhD at 14? And wants to do annother 3?

I will explain how i did this. Started school at 5 years old. By 15 i had gone through 4 different education systems.

  1. The British - 1st to 2nd.
  2. The American (In the US) - 3rd
  3. The Pakistani - 4th and 1/3 of 5th; 10 (o levels)
  4. The “International School” - Read American overseas - 7th to 9th
  5. IB - 11th and 12th american system equivilant + freshman year of college.

I have skipped 5th and 6th and hmmm never completed my “o” levels.

Anyway at 15 we got moved to Egypt. There did my placement tests for high school. Skipped the rest of 10th and scored high enough for IB - International Baccalaurate.

http://www.ibo.org/

I scored well enough in IB to skip freshmen year in the american college system. So at 17 i was a sophmore - or whatever you call it.

Finished off the American BA in 3 years at 20.

European Masters programs as in the UK are 1 year. Got mine from the University of Bern - swiss standard. And it is equal to a Magister or what they call in swiss a “litz” (or however you spell it).

Oh boy … you have been skipping to many classes.. Tell me how did you learn if you were allways skipping classes.

First of all. let me rate the schools you attended:

International School I myself have been to an International School for a very short period. That’s a school which takes lots of money but doesnt give you high and tough education. They basically let everyone through, with the money they are taking, that’s the least they can do. It’s a school with lots of extra activities but low education profile.

American School been to American School … no comments … the american schools are easy to get through.

You cannot compare American and British School System. There is a big difference.

Look into this: its written black and in white :stuck_out_tongue:

AUSTRIA

Country specific guidelines for AUSTRIA

The International Baccalaureate Diploma is recognised as equivalent to the Austrian Matriculation Certificate according to the University Decree “Allgemeinen Hochschul-Studiengesetzes - AHStG gemass 7 Abs 2 bzw. Abs. 5”, published in Law “Fassung des Bundesgesetzes BGBl”.

Your IB is equivalent to the austrian Matura, thats equal to the american HS .. british A-Levels.

Then you did one year of University.. from Swiss Uni.

So my friend this not near our Magister (Master).. You may inquire in any Austrian University. I am sure 100% about this.

But then I don’t really care, if you think its equal to the Master, if you think it is ..then good for you and best of luck in the future. :k:

Saadia i guessed you missed the 3 years where i did a BA. If you look at the websites of Harvard and Oxford, you see that if you score high enough in your IB your first year of your BA (Freshman year) is exempt. That turns a BA into a 3 year process.

Other colleges in the US do a similar process. Haverford, Swarthmore, U Penn, NYU etc all do that.

Since IB qualifies as a highschool degree you do a 5 to 7 year program in Austria for your masters no? I completed those requirements in 4 years.

The US system gets it done in 6 years. 4 for your BA. 2 for your MA. A Masters in Europe is 1 year. So make that 5 years with an American BA and a European Masters.

Mix that with a high enough scoring IB to exempt 1 year of the American BA you get a masters in 4 years.

Alright ... but all the skipping doesn't sound "normal" either. But then you did the american foreign system .. shouldn't really suprise me, should it ?

If I read correctly, then you skipped 3 years of your education time ... hmm I don't know but here skipping classes is very verrrry tough! .. the most you can skip is one class, but 3 thats too much.

But still I know that if you came to Austria with your degree, you might have to cover those 3 "skipped" years, before they would give you your Master titel.

man saadia, you just somehow have to prove that he aint all that..right?

CM, good work dude. I can relate cuz I had to deal with the same stuff as I graduated from highschool at 16 and people had a hard time accepting it :)

and no, skipping classes is not "normal" or as I would say it, is not the usual, but there are people who can do it and I dont see any real issue with it except the one that I faced myself..being the youngest person in class especially in grade 9-12, your social maturity level is very diff from those who are 2-3 years older.

anyhoo Cm congrats, good job. Dont be surprised if people start demanding to see your academic transcripts and courses taken and start ripping your university ranking, and then your courseload :D

No Fraudia uncle, I ain't proving anything at all, but only showing some reality.

I think there is an age for everything and 16 is just too young to finish HS. What are you guys speeding for ? enjoy HS till 18 and then go to university and finish in 4-5 years, all other is superficial.

enjoy highschool? that is the typical american mentality. they THINK that highschool is the best time of your life, and thats that. To finish highschool is like a very big thing for them .. if the guy is smart enough, mature enough, why not skip grades.

i don't think there is anything thats superficial when it comes to education.

 no comment!

At 21 Masters is possible if you’re a year ahead of everyone else…but 22 is the norm - and it goes something like this..

GCSE - 16
A Levels - 18
Bachelors - 21
Masters - 22

voila :flower1:
