Re: 2014 - What should we do regarding Afghanistan
It only makes sense for all the regional partners to be on the same page regarding the future of Afghanistan, especially when we are fighting towards our common goal of bringing peace and stability to the region. We certainly do not want conspiracy theories to plague our minds and risk everything that we have accomplished in the WOT. We are approaching a crucial phase in the WOT, and it is important for us to continue pushing forward. Al-Qaeda’s terrorist network has been dismantled, and ANSF are becoming more and more capable every day. We reiterate President Obama’s message about our departure from Afghanistan: "We are not interested in staying there any longer than is necessary to ensure that al Qaeda is not operating there and that there is sufficient stability that it doesn’t end up being a free-for-all after ISAF has left.”
We agree that certain challenges like the cross border attacks still remain, but we are confident that we can address these issues through mutual cooperation. The resumption of our ties with Pakistan is a good sign for the future of our relationship. We hope to work together and combine our strength against our common enemies.
