2011 Brides

Re: 2011 Brides

You know you all should also share your story as to if its arrange or love marriage and how it happened....It is always interesting to hear what others went through and how they convinced their family in a love marriage situation.

Re: 2011 Brides

hey, Im a short bride too. Im only 5’3, but I always wear 4 inch heels. Both my lenghas are gown/frock style that almost reach my ankles. Dont worry, just wear heels, and you will look fabulous! Its more about the confidence to pull it off, and standing up straight, rather then your actual height.

When I was doing my shopping in Pakistan, all the designers kept telling me to keep my kameezes at 50 inches…which is just a couple inches above my ankles! So dont worry about your height! Just wear what you love!

23 days left for me!!! Im excited, and nervous and sad!

Re: 2011 Brides

can someone pls tell me the designer for this dress

Re: 2011 Brides

My hubby doesnt have a family of his own besides one sister in karachi, so people that used to live next door to him arranged our marriage. That being said I dont have a real susral but I consider the people who arranged us to be my susral. Well, one of the women's daughter is also getting married around the same time as me, approximately 2 weeks before me. Her actual wedding is before mine but her valima is the day before my mayoun. Now, the valima is in New Jersey and my wedding is in Chicago. We have the tradition that lardka walas come to the girls mayoun but since her valima is the day before, it may not happen. I know its only a mayoun and I shouldnt stress but I think I because Im doing most of the planning for the valima and I dont have a real sasural, I would really like them to be there. They said that they would try to make it, but we'll see. I figured out my dilemma with my mehndi clothes and gave the order for that. It's funny, I have a lot of say in planning and it makes me really stressed out actually. But I think I would be more stressed if I wasnt help planning.

Re: 2011 Brides

I’m 5’4, and I’m wearing a kameez a little above my knees. I don’t want a shirt that goes all the way down, but like saimab33 said HEELS!
I don’t want to look taller then my husband either since i’ll probably have big updo or whatever and he isn’t too tall.

saimab33 - I see that your also from GTA, did you have ANY luck at all finding clothes from here??

Re: 2011 Brides

and OMG 23 days... how does it feel???

I actually did all my shopping in Lahore. I went in January because I knew I wouldnt find exactly what I wanted here. Its either very Indian inspired, or the prices are outrageous. I was lucky enough that my mom took time off work, and we were able to go for a month, otherwise I dont know what I would have done!

and yes, 23 days!!! Im going crazy....stressed, scared, nervous, happy, sad....so many emotions all at once!!! Im most scared cause Im moving to the states a week after the weddding....so Im leaving my entire family and all my friends!!!

Re: 2011 Brides

^ mine is opposite. I'm going from States to Pakistan :) But yeah...our feelings are the same. I would recommend just go for facials, spa/massage/ and spend quality time with your mom and rest of family. Get a good night's sleep each night and keep up with your prayers. It helps to give you peace.

Where in States are you moving to? Less taxes here that's for sure :-)

P.S 50 inches for kameez...holy that's long. I'm just gonna keep it a lil longer than my knees, but idk, people in paksitan really follow the fashion there. Here in states you can get away with whatever you want to wear.

P.S.S I'm more excited about wearing the awesome Lawn outfits!!!! forget the bhari outfits...hehe love my cotton! :) I know the aunties will tisk tisk...but oh well

Good luck!!!

Re: 2011 Brides

Excellent idea :) remind to add this later, gotta finish up a paper. But long story short....

Childhood: Boy met girl, girl ignored boy, boy fell in love with girl, girl liked boy, families became friends, no one talked for months, rishta sent, rishta not accepted, boy still loved girl, girl ignored boy, but still liked him, became good friends, flash forward manyyyyyyy years, families talked again, wedding talks started, major drama, families talked again and just set the date and finally girl and boy are getting married. Inshallah they will live happily ever after.

:)

Re: 2011 Brides

Re: 2011 Brides

MonkeyMirch Wow.. I am glad it worked out.. You will love Pakistan InshAllah...

where are you moving to?... I was planning to move to karachi at first, but then I changed my mind and decided to stay in the States because of various reasons.

Re: 2011 Brides

:) Thank you ladies!!!

Either Lahore or Islamabad....

Yeah..states is much cooler, but I haven't lived in Pakistan for a long time...so guess this is a good opportunity.

Re: 2011 Brides

Heyyy guys! I cant believe how long its taken me to post on here! Ill be getting married this summer and pretty much going thru the same things you all are. I have around 3.5 months and have been preparing since my engagement last February. The wedding is not in the U.S so I can only do so much, and will have to rely on others to try and get things done the way I would want :( thats stressing me out buttttt, I want to wish everyone on here congratulations on their upcoming weddings and you're all going to be gorgeous brides iA!
Hang in there, lets try and make the most of this experience!

Re: 2011 Brides

Congrats escapist!!! Looks like a lot of us share similar sentiment of not being able to do our shopping ourslelves. However, I am lucky I have my khala in karachi who usually makes all of our other clothes and I also like her choice. So I am sure whatever she makes for me will be good. Additionally, there are several styles of outfits that I would really like to have, so I have collected pictures from the internet of the outfits that I adore and showed them to my Khala. Lets see how they turn out..

Re: 2011 Brides

Okay so my dates and halls are finally finalized!!!!!! Since my brother and I are getting married together, the total wedding is about 8 days long, without the dholaks.

June 15 is my brother's mehndi, 16 is gap, 17 is barat, 18 is my mehndi, 19 my barat & brother's walima, 20 & 21 is gap, and 22 is my walima. We had initially intended to have one gap between my brother's barat and my mehndi, and one day gap between my barat and my walima, however, this is how it worked out according to the availability of the halls. I bet we will be so tired by the end of it!!!!

Is anyone else having such a long wedding by any chance, including dholaks etc???

Re: 2011 Brides

Thanks djsidra! We have just finalized the halls as well and in my case, I land a week before my wedding, and thats going to fly by with dholkis, and the mehndi etc...right after my wedding we will be travelling to attend another out of town wedding (fiance's cousin & best friend) so, noway I can talk anyone out of that! We have a week in between and that will be busy with post-wedding parties and once we fly back, its going to be hectic with my sisters wedding! fun fun fun

a very nice makeup artist work check it out

Re: 2011 Brides

have you decided on your makeup artist and photographer? I am still confused as to what to do.. I was thinkign of Sabs as I have seen brides by them and all looked good. However, I read so many conflicting reviews about them that I am not sure what to do. I will be going to karachi just a week before the wedding, so will not have enough time to visit salons and decide.

Re: 2011 Brides

how you girls think this dress will look with a shorter (knee length) fawn colour shirt and deep red lehnga and dupata???
give me honest oppinion, I’m just SO tired of looking for a wedding dress :frowning:
