miszani- I feel very strongly u should DO IT AT HOME!
Here is why:

If you save money now, you have a little more to spend on your wedding, maybe a little more dough for the bridal, or enough for another jewelry set.

You CAN definitely wear the engagement outfit you bought. But if you’re really uncomfortable, then think of it this way- you have one of your heavy outfits to wear after you get married already. It’s not a total loss.

Decorating companies will decorate the home, too. If you want some decorator contacts, pm me. I have seen them do an amazing job to ppl’s homes.

Photographer will not look odd, don’t worry. One of my friends did her engagement AND mehndi at home, & there was a professional photographer there both times. It wasn’t weird at all.

Usually at gatherings so large, it’s not considered tacky to have paper plates. Even my friend’s mehndi had paper plates. Noone thinks twice about it. It’s practical.

If you don’t want to clean up, spend a little of the dough you saved by having it at home on a cheap 1-day maid service

I also think you will run less of a risk of offending them by asking them to let you pick party favors if they get their way by doing it at home. I vote for home, can you tell? Haha. Of course, it’s your engagement, and you know how badly you want the hall or not. But if I were in your position, you know what I’d do. Good luck!
