Salams all.
On popular demand we are making plans for the second annual GupShup PicNic in the Toronto area.
A couple of suggestions have come through and this the thread to make your suggestions and preferences known.
Last year we had fun at Centre Island. Although it was a difficult commute with cars, trains and ferries involved, the venue provided us with the right mix of activities for folks with and without little ones. We can do it again if everyone is up to it.
Other suggestions for venue are Kelso Conservation Area, Heart Lake Conservation Area and Jack Darling Park.
Please start posting your suggestions and preferences for dates so that we can get a head start on the planning.
heart lake is accessible, so is jack darling and kelso .. and pretty much all spots offer the family-stuff..
lets wait for voting and reactions from people who've actually been there.. jack darling looks like in the middle for everyone... (or maybe this time we dont drag dm and smilestar out for so far and WE go to them).. lets see..
so far i can see requirements for US being: bbq-area available, relaxing/tree area available, beech/water/lake/swimming/available, playing area (football/khokho-whatever)
confused is right.....we can always go to the east end....I'm just not familiar with any place other than bluffers park in the east so I'll have to rely on suggestions and experience.
I would definitely suggest going only to some place that has amenities that we have tried out.
But let's get a move on cuz I will have to call and book the space with the city/park. Things get booked up quite quickly.
yeah i know.. but spread the word around to 'gang' and their families too via PMs...
if people fire their wish-points, and moaning and suggestions and we can come up with a date in june/july (weather will be MUCH warmer and water much nicer in july), everyone will be able to follow it easier then, imo...
bluffers park is tested and other than parking and showing up early to claim, works ok.. but again, EVERYBODY runs to bluffers on the weekends..
jack darling offers bookings...
heart lake is more .. errr.. public kelso is also like that..
Okay...this is going to get confusing....so in the interest of keeping things clear, please don't mind if I delete the non-relevant posts from here.
Please start a separate thread for your respective cities....
Re: 2007 Toronto GupShup PicNic Suggestions/Preferences
well we cant be catering to every individuals personal preferences.
For me anything is fine, as long as it offers the stuff mentioned by Faizy
A water pool or someplace where kiddos can play splash splash would be nice
I dont think we have that at Kelso or Bluffers ...
anyway thats not a big deal, they can always come home and swim in the bathtub
What about Boyd or Kortright ? I have been to Boyd and its a nice place to have a picnic, minus the water fun.....
Re: 2007 Toronto GupShup PicNic Suggestions/Preferences
True Oh well, I’ll still get to meet lots of people. You are the only one Canadian guppy that I have actually met besides faizy, and your hubby, and your daughter (future guppan) :halo:
Re: 2007 Toronto GupShup PicNic Suggestions/Preferences
yeah... 3hrs. is too long for a day trip....
maybe we plan to rent a cottage for a weekend......but that's going to be another excursion altogether...
Niagara is not a bad idea....the problem is making sure that we all meet up once we are there....there is a tendency for folks to get lost. Unless we do the truly desi thing and pitch in to rent a bus and driver.....
Re: 2007 Toronto GupShup PicNic Suggestions/Preferences
what exactly was tough ?
people have to get to the harbor front, which can be very conveniently reached by car, TTC, subway / Streetcar etc. Plenty parking available (expensive though, I think last year it was around $20)
and those who can't swim can take the ferry ride to center island.
