2 year old with a pacifier

If you saw a toddler 2-3 old with a pacifier - would you say something to his/her mom?

Or a 4 year old with a bottle?

Re: 2 year old with a pacifier

:hehe:

I would leave them alone cause both our daughters drank from their bottles till 4 1/2.

Re: 2 year old with a pacifier

 my doctor gave me the hardest time when he saw that my daughter at age 2 still used her bottle. I am glad I got rid of it though because they started eating much better. It was an excuse for me to take it easy and give them milk instead of food.

Re: 2 year old with a pacifier

I wouldn't say anything.

Re: 2 year old with a pacifier

You know, the eating part did not work with our older one. Till few months ago, she was still not good on eating. Only in last few months (and that also naturally), she picked on eating her meals properly.

Yes, we are not ideal parents by any stretch of imagination :D, but as someone once said, kids do not grow up reading parenting books, so they will adopt things at their comfort level and not when experts say, so we should let them.

Re: 2 year old with a pacifier

I took a bottle till I was 5 :(

Re: 2 year old with a pacifier

I took a bottle till 3, my sister till 5. I understand it looks silly on a big child, but hey...it's comforting for them. No I wouldn't say anything to the parents because I have been in the same shoes.

Re: 2 year old with a pacifier

The only time I would say something to a parent would be if there was something I thought was harmful or irresponsible for the child. Though the pacifier or bottle may not be a great habit, it is not really doing any damage. I do think both of these should be dropped around 1-2 years of age, but I know lots of kids who took these and came off them without any trouble a bit later.

Also I sucked my thumb in my sleep until I was like 17. I think I stopped because of college and the fear of grossing out my roommate :p

Re: 2 year old with a pacifier

The trouble with bottle they say is that it could cause tooth decay...the milk, that is...as kids usually drink it in bed. That could become a serious issue. I make sure I have my kids' dental check ups every 6 months, and when they were younger, I used to wipe their teeth with a wet washcloth after the bottle fell off their mouths :D

Re: 2 year old with a pacifier

Both of my daughters were poor eaters so giving up bottles was a good thing for them. Till this day I wish I introduced more foods to my older daughter when she was younger. She has a tough time eating fruits and vegetables and I know it has to do with getting to much milk and not enough solid food.

Re: 2 year old with a pacifier

I wouldn't say a word but I would think the parents are being lazy..

Re: 2 year old with a pacifier

That does make sense because milk fills them up and at age 3-4, a child needs just about 16-24 oz of milk.

Re: 2 year old with a pacifier

I won't say anything and maybe,I say maybe, wont judge the parents either.

Re: 2 year old with a pacifier

My daughter sucked her thumb like anything till she was around 7 months of age. When I went to Pakistan I was told like a million 'horror' stories that how she will keep on doing it till time of marriage maybe and what will happen then...:D
she left on her own when she was about 7 months old.

Re: 2 year old with a pacifier

My daughter is 1 year old and there are days when she just doesn’t eat anything or hardly anything.I find it so easy to just give her an extra bottle or two that day.I know it shouldn’t go on for long though:hinna:

Re: 2 year old with a pacifier

chips - it's not judging. You can give someone advice without sounding judgmental

As a new mother I had NO IDEA what I was doing. I didn't have nieces or nephews so I was pretty aloof when it came to baby stuff. I really appreciated it when someone pointed something out to me that I was not aware of or something I could be doing better.

Re: 2 year old with a pacifier

I drunk milk from a bottle til I was four. :p

Re: 2 year old with a pacifier

Did it damage your teeth in anyways? I am assuming no.

Re: 2 year old with a pacifier

My nephews (3 and 4) still drink from bottles but their teeth are fine mA and they have good appetites mA

Re: 2 year old with a pacifier

I wouldn't say anything each and every child is different and sooner or later they all get rid of these things.
