i think so too :k:
dear you r living at which age, such lessons were taught to our grandparents many years back. grow up, nowadays such marriages seem more successful.
What has age got to do with this?
…U mite like this idea but i dont, thats it… No one in my family every married to their cousins, neither do i knw anyone who got married to their cousins. Personally i think its just disgusting! Come to think of it its is like u are marryin ur own sis/brother specially if u are marrying ur 1st cousins!
seeing your location, you travel a lot i see.. but what about those like me who have never spent any time with cousins, is it still disgusting? you don’t know anyone? your queen and her royal family all are interbred. so you should be disgusted at that too then.

Just like you even i havent spent time with my cousins a lot. I moved here from pak when i was young, some of my cousins are still back home, nd some are in other westerns countries...... Most of my cousins hardly know me, infact they havent even seen me since past 5 yrs or so. My take on cousins marriages (specially the 1st one is) that its like u marrying ur own sis/brothers!. But i guess its personal opionion? So ur opinion is different to mine. Personally speaking i havent come across a single person in my life who has married to his/her cousins. And the stories that i have heard where cousins got married to each other , there children were disabled (at least 1 child in most of the cases).
Re: 1st cousins gettin married!!
Shaz, have no idea where you got the disabled thing from. My grand-parents were cousins, so were plenty of people in my family and not a single turned out disabled. Infact ALL of them MashAllah achieved excellent success in their life.
However personally I agree with your opinion (to a degree). I wouldn't find it weird marrying a cousin that I don't know or haven't grown up with. What I don't agree is marrying within the family just for the sake of it. Our country has 160 million people so WHY marry within the family?

the ruling classes are are all married to each other (within family), maybe they are all disabled too and have power at the same time.. hmmm :)
so if you hardly know your cousins then why do you get this "sister/brother" feeling? it's just in your mind! open your mind, whole new world out there.

Look as i said before, everyone has different point of view. Urs is different to mine so lets just finish it here. Why bother continuing?

I might be wrong, but what i heard is that u are more likely to have disabled children (s) if u are marrying ur cousin (specially 1st cousin) than those who dont marry their cousin!
i don't think they turned out disabled per se. that is that could be and end result of the worst. i think it si like the thrid generation at least and more when they cousins breed for this long again and again into eachother then some of the kids have a higher chance of having this blood disease. i think it is called thelessomia or soemthing like that.
one of my distant bhabi's bhanja nad bhanji both had this problem. it is really sad the boy cannot walk for long distance when he does his legs and knee caps twist together or somthing and he falls down even though he is a boy not a baby. and his siter got his same thing but worse in that eventaully during her early teenagehood she eventually did get disabled and had to be bound to the wheelchair until her last days when she died at the age of 16.

Ask those who have married their 1st cousins!

Yes the chance of disability is higher than normal but to say that every cousin marriage will result in at least one disabled child is ignorance, no offence.

^^^ Read my post properly i said "from the stories that i have heard where cousins got married to each other, there children were disabled (at least 1 child in most cases)
Got it now?
Re: 1st cousins gettin married!!
Your 'atleast one child in most cases where cousins got married to each other' implies that each couple had at least one child disabled.
Write your post more clearly. :-)

Yes we see...and it sounds to me like there was perhaps alot of intermarriage in the family line and/or there were recessive genes on the part of both husband and wife that caused disability in their offspring. Like I've said before, if this is a concern then take a visit to a genetic counsellor prior to marriage so that you know exactly what risks you face. Some cousins can marry without worry at all and face no bigger risk than any other couple. Other cousins can face great risk. And genetic counsellors can unravel this for you so that its not a mystery.
