Re: 18% of this world's population is Muslims
I brought several things up--which were practiced under Umar..as expected you noticed only Jizya.
Jizya was the Tax charged much more heavily than even modern norms of most strict tax system...It's pathetic you are comparing Jizya with Zakat.......Zakat is not even mandatory and rich muslims were obliged to pay for benefit of Umaa ONLY...and NOT for Kaafirs living under their oppressive rule...now, stop glorifying Zakat by comparing it with Jizyaa which was compulsorily enforced upon Kaafirs.
I already urged you to come out of your biased knowledge of so called r.a. Umar---and think from a neutral perspective.
You are quoting an incident when Mohammed was alive...I was telling you History of Umar's rule after Mohammed's death. You got the difference??
Even in that case, you have said Umar killed a man because the man was not satisfied with Mohammde's ruling......this only shows how much tolerant your beloved r.a. Umar was that in his view being not satisfied was a crime punishable to death....great "religion of peace"!!
You have no idea about history of Sassanid rulers of Persia--- and their golden rule not to mention majority of Jews lived freely during that time ---before Umar invaded this and destroyed the whole thousand years Civilization of Zoroastrians.
I don't have enough time in my hand to give you history lessons here....it will take another 50 pages to understand the Persian Civilization
....but humbly request you to read something more than Quran and Hadeeth....Only then you will realize your revered Umar and his Army General Khalid ibn Walid's exploits.
As said earlier you are comparing Zakat and Jizya
I think only guyz like you glorify these here and there incidents and collectively forgetting the majority cases.
And yeah....some people even told me that revered Umar kept a "servant" as Jew....woww what an honour...real symbol of mercy!!
I don't think Umar or other Muslim invaders are Prophets or some equivalent respectable figures....These were invaders, who invaded other countries...same like America is today invader of Iraq.
But this simple thing is difficult for many to understand.
Read history from independent sources and you will know your glorified heroes exploits in the name of Umma and Jannah.
I am not really sure about history of Jerusalem.....
As far as I know, when Umar invaded Egypt and Palestine (Jerusalem), majority of people were converted during his reign.
a very few no. of people who were still Orthodox Christians were left with no choice but to submit to Umar's will and were granted Dhimmi status with all those descriminatory laws.
Umar also made a treaty in his own style called "Ummariya Treaty".
I don't know from any independent historians that-- all Jews of Israel ever lived under Umar's rule???
From history you siddenly came back to modern time, I am sure you will like to stick to topic....we can debate about minority issues in Asian countries in some other thread.

Can u please provide me with the ratios with which Jaziya was charged.. coz Umer (RZA) also imposed some other taxes on farmer and traders.
If a muslim in life of Prophet goes against the word of Prohphet he must be killed right away!!!
For Peace one should submitt oneself to a greater power and then practice what is implemented by that power.. there should be someone to lookafter if those are implemented or not.. failing to do so... means giving liberty to every one for doing what ever they want, will not give peace to any one, yet it will create anarchy.

And still those Chiristains and jews prefer to stay under muslim rules for next thousand years... yet they have choices to go to christain lands but those lands were way to risky to live. and tax (jaziya) muslims where charging seems to be way to less than TAXES were imposed by chirstain kings of that time.
Nonetheless, none of the jews were forced to wear any funny caps. to differentiate them from locals.
