Ramadan isalmost over and I hope you are all enjoying this time. I know that everyone is out there constantly trying to do good in their community, and I’ve thought about proposing this initiative a while back, but what better month to reap the rewards for all those who participate!!
I thought it would be a great initiative if we all as guppies decided to sponsor a child together for a year and then we can review this one year from today. For only mere pocket change, we will be helping a child access to proper food, medicine, clothing and well-needed materials. I have done this with other group of freinds through Islamic relief and we were able to raise money for 5 children! I am having an iftar and soon and we will be signing up there as well. So even if we cant get all 12 people, even a couple will help.
All I ask that if you are interested to please show your commitment and support. I will list the 12 months of the year below, and I will start the process by being the first one to commit. Following that please let me know which of you wouldn’t mind donating a mere $33 and committing yourself to a month. If you could do more than a month, than the blessing is for you. Someone tried thsi effort with their cousins and within 2 hours they were able to commit to a one year sponsorship of a child. I ask that you do the same. And maybe try this initiative with your family and friends.
For those who commit, please PM me and I will PM you back the information on how to send me checks or we can find a senior member who we all trust and send the checks to them. (Please let me know who you would like that person to be)

good idea, but i've always thought child sponsoring should be a life time commitment ... what happens when this year ends, does the child go back to having no food, clothes, education etc?
this shouldnt be about making ourselves feel better during ramzan.
maybe everyone can just go to their website and make their payments and maybe put up confirmation numbers or something instead of sending out payments to one particular person. Don;t know how many people want to give out their addresses and stuff.
I thought about that too sobi but just cos someone cannot commit year after year does it mean the orphan shouldn;t get food/clothes for the one year that the donor can afford? Regular donors can die too, go thru tough financial times where they cannot continue so then what? Maybe Allah will guide us and we may all carry on next yr too, if a couple of us drop out the organiser can always get replacements. Its better to do little than none.
thats my point femme, wouldnt it make sense to do it year on year rather than just 2006? I think that would make more sense ... hate the idea of showing some poor kid what they can have and then cruely taking it all away.
for those of us taht are on stable income, 20 quid a year really aint that much money, and if for sone reason one person drops out i'm sure it will be really easy to get a replacement person
Its a part of Islamic relief and the child that we pick can be from one of these countries:
Bangladesh
Chechnya
India
Mali
Sudan
Sri Lanka
South Africa
Ethiopia
Yemen
The reason why us girls started doing this in the first place was because most of us dont have jobs and/or are students and can’t commit for life yet, but we still want to help. Together it costs us $33 per year and if we did it by ourselves it would be $396. If any of you can afford it then you guys should def sign up yourselves, its very rewarding!
Femme I think at this time you cant just make a one-month payment, it has to be a one year commitment. Here is the message that you get:

Sobi I do plan on doing this every year inshAllah either by myself(once i have a job) or with friends and family. If i am on GS next year and if this is successful then inshallah i will do it next year again.
I have no problem sending you the money PB. I hope others won;t either. Do you want to get 12 members from GS or do you have other donors which u can add on to this list to get a full 12 months? Im sure some of us can pay more than a month too if needed to get a full years funds.

We have ALL 12 months alhumdulillah :) I am so happy! Can you guys please PM me your email adds so I can keep a list for next year or if i need to contact you guys regarding this. InshAllah as soon as i register, i will try to provide a confirmation number or anything that they provide.
Secondly, do any of you know anythign about the HCI sponsorship program? Do you prefer we sponsor a child through them? I know that Islamic relief is reliable, but this is the first time i heard about HCI.
