ISLAMABAD: The government has deployed more troops to Swat and Tank to meet any possible reaction of the Lal Masjid operation. Twelve thousands soldiers have rolled across Swat, Tank, Dera, Bannu and Lakki Marwat areas on request of the NWFP government. Moreover, a Khyber Rifles wing of 500 men has also been deployed in the area. Additional troops have also been sent to the southern districts of the province. Tank Police chief Mumtaz Zareen has said that a contingent of 4000 soldiers was reaching in the area. The deployment will be completed within few days, he added.

Use of more force will further alienate the people, and operating in such situation will make the troops more vulnerable and there are more causalities in the offing.

This kind of polarization is very dangerous. Pakistan needs to find a peaceful solution. We cannot alienate scores of population like this. All parties, government and opposition should come together and come up to a peaceful solution to this crisis, otherwise there will be no Pakistan for them to rule.

If they really want to take care of these scum, they have to leave the check points, and go after them... Kill them as the sleep, kill their leaders, kidnapp, arrest and do whatever is neccesary to win the battle.
At check point they are just sitting ducks.
Today they killed 8 soldiers, so how the heck are they going to kill these guys if they just sitting at checkpoints? Peace deal is obviously null and void.

yup they should send militants baskets full of laddoo and other mithai every day, soon militants will develop diabetes or cardiovascular ailments and perish. I like the idea..

wait wait wait..NWFP govt asked for these operations?
1) who runs NWFP govt?
2) who are the operations against?
3) say what?
1) MMA run the NWFP govt, and they have asked federal govt to send these troops.
2) The operation is against the Shia-killers of the Tehrik Nifaz-e-Shariat-e-Mohammadi (TNSM).

Law and order in swat comes under the control of the Governor (while the law says the provinces have control over law enforcement agencies in fact it's the feds who control them ..more so in NWFP and Balochistan)
The local gov, civil society organizations in swat have been begging the feds to intervene and at the very least jam the TNSM radio stations for over a year now, much like Lal masjid the GoP has been either incompetently ignroing the situation or tacitly allowing it to worsen.
Now with so much time having elapsed again in a repeat of lal masjid one the groups have become bolder and more heavily armed and secondly they have gained more support.
