Indian rioters get life for rape, murders Tuesday, January 22, 2008
MUMBAI: An Indian court sentenced 11 Hindus to life imprisonment on Monday for gang-raping a pregnant Muslim woman and murdering her family during one of India’s worst riots in which hundreds of people, mostly Muslims, were slaughtered.
The court also jailed a policeman for three years for falsifying evidence in a trial. A special court that heard the case in Mumbai found 13 men guilty of a variety of crimes from rape and gang-rape to murder and the destruction or falsification of evidence.
Thousands of cases were filed by Muslim victims but a couple of them came to be seen as key to winning justice for hundreds of women who have sexual assault cases pending from the riots. One of them was Bilkis Bano, a young Muslim mother who was gang-raped when, her lawyers say, she was three months pregnant. Her attackers also burned to death 12 members of her family. Bano welcomed the convictions but said her family in Gujarat still lived in fear of being attacked. reuters

I was watching the news yesterday on aaj tak regarding this - these men also raped the girls other family member didn't they and killed some of them...the lawyers wanted them to get hanged till death but they have just been imprisonment for 25 years. They also said that Gujrat has a lot of cases like these but none of them have actually reached till this stage.

Minerva Ji or Ravage Ji can you please take care of the immature, insulting language used by PD about all Hindus.
I don't think any of the Muslims here would like it if somebody used such derogatory language about Islam or Muslims. They wouldn't take it and so shouldn't the Hindus. R-E-S-P-E-C-T!!!
the people that committed this crime were extremists and extremists don't have a religion. hope to see all of the guilty getting to that nightmarish jail and getting the slow torture they deserve.

Has the sentencing just begun or has the process been going on for a while? Hope it's not just these 11 getting a life sentence. And I hope they use some of the footage(spycam) taken by Tehelka as evidence, there's nothing better than having the guilty admitting to the killings.
