Zulfiqar Bhutto was an Arain...

Zulfiqar Bhutto was an Arain and that was one of the reasons he made Zia-ul-Haq the general because Zia was also an Arain. What is ‘Arain’, is it a caste, tribe? If Zulfiqar was an Arain then how come he was also a Bhutto. And also what does the term ‘Jat’ mean? Please help me to understand the differences. Thank you.

Bhutto was a Sindhi, Arain to my knowldge are only Punjabis.

Arain are not Punjabi, they are a sub caste of Rajput family, they mostly are moved to our Punkab and speak punjabi so they are considered Punjabi, else they have nothing to do with punjabi family ! ;ile other Rajput e.g. Rao, Rana, Bhatti, Raja, Khokar , Chohaan etc!

ZA Bhutto I guess is not 100% sindhi, he has some connection eitehr his one of grand pa was from india... but this need to be confirmed!

I also heard mother of Zardari is from Lakhanow! ...??? correct me!

Arian was a special “fighter tribe” and came with arabs with their other forces and living here for 1000s of years they are as much punjabis as any one else.

Hi Ata,

I believe Bhutto's father Shah Nawaz was from princely state Junagadh (present-day it's a district in Indian state Gujarat). He moved to Sindh after Junagadh was annexed to India.

Ejaz adds Chaudhry to his name to match Punjab bigwigs

ISLAMABAD: PML-Q leader and former religious affairs minister Ejazul Haq, who was born in Nowshera near Peshawar and whose father General Ziaul Haq was born in Jullunder to a poor Madrassa teacher, has changed his name to Chaudhry Ejazul Haq to come at par with the other Punjab Chaudhrys in the coming elections from Bahawalpur.

Ejaz, who is an Arain by caste and shares his origins with none other than Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto, who both are Arains, besides many other Pakistani VVIPs, has done so only for political advantage, which he may or may not get.
â€œYes, this is true. The voters of my area have changed my name to Chaudhry Ejazul Haq. They wanted it for political reasons and how could I stop them if they have not got these posters pasted on the walls of the city?â€ he told media from Lahore on telephone.
According to Wikipedia, one of the largest reference encyclopedia websites which has more than 75,000 active contributors working on nine million articles in more than 250 languages, Ejazul Haq has no birthright to change his name to a Chaudhry.

When a genuinely worried Ejazul Haq tried to know the reasons behind this unusual demand, he was informed that the local politics had its own compulsions and dynamics as it was based on those powerful clans â€” Arains and Jats. He was told that the addition of â€œChaudhryâ€ with his name would boost his own image in the area as the voters would take him as someone from their own clans.
Wikipedia has more information about the Arains, the most interesting being that Benazirâ€™s father Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was also an Arain, as is Benazir. Among the list of prominent Arains displayed by Wikipedia are former PM Chaudhry Mohammed Ali, Shah Inayat Qadri, the spiritual master of famous saint and poet Baba Bulleh Shah. Admiral Haji Muhammad Siddiq (HMS) Chaudhri, the first Pakistani Navy Commander in Chief, Qudratullah Shahab of Shahabnama, Mian Iftikharuddin landlord and founder of the Imroze and Pakistan Times, Mian Azhar PML leader and former Governor of Punjab, Sardar Assef Ahmed Ali, former Foreign Minsiter, Nasim Hijazi, the famous novelist and many others.
But Ejazul Haq will not like the details available about the Arain caste. The Arains are largely Muslim, numbering 9,585,000. The Arain Hindu population numbers 247,000 and the Arain Sikh population 18,000. The proportion of Muslim Arain is much greater than those of the other castes of the Punjab engaged in agriculture: (the Jats, Gujjars and Rajputs, which are 52 per cent, 42 per cent and 30 per cent Muslim, respectively.
A study by the Pakistan Journal of Medical Sciences on blood types of the major ethnicities in the Punjab showed that â€˜Oâ€™ is the most common blood group among all ethnicities, except among the Arain where â€˜Bâ€™ is most common, the difference being statistically significant.
Whilst not proof of non-local ancestry, it does illustrate a difference between the Arain and the other castes inhabiting the Punjab. But Wikipedia significantly says the Arain landholders should not be confused with the more gentrified Zamindars such as the feudal Rajput landlords of vast holdings.
â€œPolo, partridge shoots and tea parties were therefore not associated attributes. Neither were the more negative and profligate practises such as â€œ…dancing girls, drunken evenings listening to poetry, or numerous marriages…â€.
â€œWhen the British wanted land developed in the Punjab after its annexation, the Arain were brought in to cultivate lands around the cities, forming irrigated colonies. The Arain were so favoured for their â€˜hard work, frugality and sense of disciplineâ€™.â€
Subsequent development of towns and cities and increasing urbanisation resulted in the value of the land settled by the Arain to rise significantly, and Arain families thus flourished. Education was prioritised with the new found wealth and the Arain came to dominate the legal profession among urban Punjabi Muslims. Many used law to enter politics.
The Arain were classified as a â€œnon-martial raceâ€ by the British, a classification deemed arbitrary and based on prejudices prevalent at the time, the encyclopedia says. For Ejazul Haq all this may be irrelevant as he is already a known name and adding a Chaudhry could actually help him in his election.
Significantly, he has also been advised that during his election campaign he should distance himself from the politics of the Chaudhrys of Gujrat, as the people of the area mostly comprise the Arains who do not like the Jats because of traditional rivalry between the two clans.
â€œChaudhryâ€ Ejaz has also been told that instead of contesting election on the ticket of PML-Q, he should once again contest as an independent candidate as he did in 2002 when he won the election.

Well Bhuttos dad moved from Juna garh and they are not Sindhi they joined the PPP later.

Part1
In the Ummayad Dynasty (660-750 AD)there was a city,Areeha which lied on the
road from Danascus to Jerusalem (now in modern Israel ,close to the Dead sea )
Areeha who belonged to the superior families of Banu Ummayad or who were loyal to the Ummayads.
...These people were skilled warriors but they were also good at agriculture.
(Areeha means Garden).

Part2
A beautiful little city near Jerusalem called Jerico in English (also called Ariha in Arabic) was home to Arab Muslims before Mohammed Bin Qasim Invaded sub continent.
An armed force of 6,000 Arabs Fighters in the lead of M.Bin Qasim came to invade sub continent in seventh century. These fighters after defeating local hindu Rajas settled in a town called WARA (also called Warya) between Dadu and Larkana near river Indus. Some of them also settled near river Sarsoti. Later on the settlers spreaded from there and were called Arihai (origin from Ariha) by the local people.
Then with the passage of time the word Arihai was converted to Arain...

Above mentioned history is not based on speculations, it is based on research done through history books written in Arabic and Also Urdu.
