Sharon appoints hawk as Defence Minister
From Stephen Farrell in Jerusalem

ISRAEL’S former top general, Shaul Mofaz, became the country’s Defence Minister yesterday as Ariel Sharon, the Prime Minister, wooed the far Right to keep his hold on power.
Senior government sources confirmed that the hawkish Mr Mofaz had accepted the post relinquished by Binyamin Ben Eliezer when Labour quit the Government on Wednesday in protest at government spending on Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank and Gaza.

But the future of Shimon Peres, the veteran Labour Foreign Minister, remained unclear amid speculation that he had rejected an offer to join the new Government as “special world envoy”.

Even as Mr Sharon’s aides haggled with parties on the far Right to secure the five MPs whom the Likud leader needs to control the Knesset, the Prime Minister insisted that he would rule with a “narrow coalition” rather than worsen the country’s economic and political crisis by dissolving his administration. “I plan to make every effort to establish an alternative Government,” Mr Sharon said. “I have no intention of initiating early elections.”

The leading candidate to provide the five votes Mr Sharon needs to secure a majority in the 120-seat Knesset ahead of a vote of confidence on Monday is the Yisrael Beitenu/National Union coalition, an ultra-right faction which advocates the “transfer” — forcible expulsion — of Palestinians.

The appointment of Mr Mofaz is controversial. Only this week British lawyers sent a 17-page dossier to the Director of Public Prosecutions, accusing him of war crimes against Palestinians killed in Jenin refugee camp in April.

So now we will have a government in Israel led by and composed of war crminals, being chased out around the world for their war crimes against the Palestinians. Israel is becoming like Milosevic's Serbia - a rogue state led by war criminals and ethnic cleansers.

Fat B@stard!

One racists to another: Lets see how many more innocent people we can kill together.

Wonderful. Now Israel will not just have a war criminal Prime Minister, and Defence Minister, but a Foreign Minister who thinks those two have not gone far enough in oppressing the Palestinians. Sharon, Mofaz, and Netanyahu - a real axis of evil that may end up governing Israel, and pushing the region to the abyss.

Wonder if any of the Arab leadership has commented on this - or even realises what's in store.

Is it going to be the ‘Dream Team’, staunch Zion hardliner Netenyahu, and Sharon the bloat-bellied Butcher of Beirut? Or will political ambition scupper the plans of these rampant terrorists, at least cosmetically?

Netanyahu accepts offer to join Israeli government
By Justin Huggler in Jerusalem
04 November 2002
The hardline former Israeli prime minister Binyamin Netanyahu yesterday agreed to join Ariel Sharon’s government as Foreign Minister, on condition that Mr Sharon calls early elections. But sources close to Mr Sharon last night dismissed the offer as “political trickery”.

If Mr Netanyahu joins the government, his appointment would damage what little is left of the peace process. He has publicly declared his opposition to the establishment of a Palestinian state, which the US says should be part of a peace settlement.

**Mr Sharon is trying to woo far right parties, some of which advocate expelling all Palestinians from the West Bank, into joining a new coalition government. **

It is not clear whether Mr Sharon will accept Mr Netanyahu’s terms. He offered the former premier a post in order to defuse a challenge from Mr Netanyahu for the leadership of the Likud Party, calculating he would be politically damaged if he turned the foreign ministry down.

By insisting on early elections Mr Netanyahu is trying to keep his leadership challenge alive.

*News of Mr Netanyahu’s offer came hours before Amnesty International publishes a report today which accuses the Israeli military of crimes against humanity and war crimes in its operations in Jenin and Nablus earlier this year, and calls on the international community to bring those responsible to justice. *

Last week Scotland Yard opened an investigation into another new minister, Lieutenant-General Shaul Mofaz, on allegations of war crimes. Lt-Gen Mofaz, who was head of the Israeli army until his retirement in July, over the weekend agreed to become Defence Minister.

Today’s Amnesty report includes detailed evidence that Israeli soldiers unlawfully killed Palestinians civilians, blocked medical access to the wounded, used Palestinians as human shields, tortured prisoners, and unnecessarily destroyed civilian houses.

Many of these crimes are not isolated incidents, says Amnesty, but “committed in a widespread and systematic manner, in pursuit of government policy”, which means they could be regarded as crimes against humanity under the statute of the newly formed international criminal court.

In addition to the already widely known witness accounts of atrocities committed by the Israeli army in Jenin in April, Amnesty’s report describes similar crimes committed at the same time in another West Bank city, Nablus.

**Among the dead in Nablus were eight members of a single family, the al-Shu’bis, who were buried alive when Israeli soldiers bulldozed their house on top of them, including three children, their pregnant mother and their 85-year-old grandmother. The soldiers continued to demolish the house even though neighbours told them people were inside. **

Even more damning, the report says that in spite of the international outcry at Israeli military tactics in April, the army has continued to commit war crimes.

It cites the case of two children, six-year-old Ahmad Ghazawi and his 12-year-old brother, Jamil, killed in Jenin in June after they went on to the streets believing a curfew had been lifted. An Israeli tank fired at them. The Israeli army later told Amnesty the curfew was still in place. Amnesty has seen video footage of the killings and says there was no fighting at the time.

I have always predicted that Sharon would go for this type of government in the end. A goverment of ethnic cleansers, terrorists and Nazi's, more committed to carrying out war crimes to prop up the demograpically disappearing Zionist edifice.

One of the far lesser - but perhaps somewhat important - worrying aspects of Netanyahu is that he has good on-air 'charisma'; he delivers media-friendly, one-liner soundbytes regarding Palestinians and Arafat that sound good on air. He's very articulate and elegant-sounding in English, he knows how to work the media to be on his side. There was a study done on this by a Canadian news station several months ago regarding the disparities between Netanyahu's and Arafat's approaches vis-a-vis the media, and what effects that has upon the typical 'western' TV viewer. Just read today that one Sharon aide stated that having Netanyahu onboard would help out the Israeli cause internationally because Netanyahu's good at working the press. Now it's upto us; Muslim or Arab govts. should reciprocate with equal media counterpressure on our side, someone like Hanan Ashrawi is an excellent one... or even someone like queen Noor of Jordan, i guess, if it comes to that.
Sharon, Mofaz, and Netanyahu. What a lovely trio. Malik73 is right, a true axis of evil if ever there was one.

Yes, the Nazi's were good with propognada as well, but we know how they ended up? The Palestinians are beginning to learn to use more effectively to put across their just struggle to the world's media. With a trio of war criminals, terrorists and ethnic cleansers heading Israel' government, their job should be made much easier.

That reminds me; what happened to the Belgian court’s attempts to indict Sharon for war crimes? One bit of good news at least - the latest war criminal added to Sharon’s happy group, General Mofaz, is already under investigation by Scotland Yard. Some of the democratic activities he authorized include demolishing the residence of a civilian Palestinian man described by Amnesty as “severely disabled” - while this civilian was still inside his house, unable to leave due to his physical immobilization. He died as his house was being literally demolished infront of his eyes. That’s the IDF for you… but yet the Palestinians are always the terrorists are they not.

Among the cases cited by Amnesty is that of Jamal Fayed, a 38-year-old severely disabled man living in Jenin refugee camp where it says 54 Palestinians were killed during the army operation in April which resulted in the destruction of the homes of about 4,000 people. Many died as the army bulldozed their houses.

“The family had shown Jamal Fayed’s ID to the soldiers who were preparing to demolish the house to prove he was paralysed and could not get out of the home without their help. The soldiers refused to help and soon after a bulldozer approached the house. The family yelled at the driver to stop. He didn’t and Jamal Fayed, still trapped inside, was killed,” the report said. Yes, thats what Mofaz the war criminal does, and now he is the Israeli Defence Minister, in a government made up up the "axis of evil" . Ethnic cleansers, terrorists and war criminals fleeing the court cases around tht world. They are going to make Israel the leadinf Rogue State of the world.
