Did anyone here ever try making Pakistani’s KFC chicken zinger burger?
I have been thinking about it and want it so bad! I have used chef Zakir’s recipe in the past but some more research this time around is giving me a different recipe using corn flakes for coating.. anyone tried that? how was the taste?
Yes i use Cornflakes and potato chips crushed for the upper coating and these burgers are always on top list whenever menu is set as per audience choice. I use plain flour and rice flour mixture and then corn flakes n chips mixture
Devilish Angel has a really good recipe…she posted pics and recipe in the aaj kya khaya/pakaiya thread…she posted it sometime last year…happy hunting lol!
take chicken breast pieces slice them so tht they are not very thick.
fill a bowl wth water add almost 10 to 12 chopped green chillies, salt, red chilli powder, white pepper, black pepper, soya sauce and vinegar. soak chicken pieces in it for 2 hours.
after 2 hours take pieces out n discard all water mixture, sprinkle salt, red chilli powder and red chilli sauce, keep marinated it for 2 hours.
heat oil for deep frying, take deep bowl fill it with plain flour , now start coating chicken piece one at a time wth flour. take piece n start rotating it in flour like you open lid of jar, keep swirling it for 5 mins.
take water separately in a bowl, after coating dip chicken piece one at a time in water than start coating it with plain flour as before for 2 to 3 mins, then deep fry.
note: coating is most important step, if you will not coat it in proper style like I mentioned the crust will not be like this
so I followed the above shared recipe for marination and combined a few recipes for coating… it turned out really good.. I didnt get a picture of it in the bun but lets say it was about 80% of what KFC chicken zinger burger tastes like.. next time I will add in a bit more chilli though.
oh and also I couldnt find rice flour so I skipped it.
Looks delish…gtg next time you can just replace rice flour with all purpose.
The purpose is to help the egg stick/get nicely coated on the chicken before you crust it with crumbs.
sara I will share the full recipe so I can post it later in my book
Step 1
4 boneless chicken fillets, cut in half
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp salt
1 tsp crushed red peppers
2 tbspn Worcestershire sauce
Slice each breast through the middle to make thin pieces.. make cuts on the pieces so marinade seeps in…Marinate for at least 2 hours-I will do overnight next time.
Coating 1
3 tbsp Plain flour
2 tbsp corn flour
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
Mix it well
Coating 2
1 egg- beaten
1 tbsp milk
Coating 3
1 cup bread crumbs
1 cup crushed corn flakes
Heat oil in karahi
Remove the chicken pieces from the marinade.. first dust it in the flour mixture, then dip it in egg and then roll it in cornflakes/crumb mixture- Repeat, flour, egg, cornflakes!
Now fry them in karahi on medium low flame, covered (chef zakir had shared this tip that you want to keep karahi covered so it’s cooking in its steam) I gave about 5-6 mins per side(no more than 12 mins per batch) but then I also inserted the thermometer in the thickest part of chicken and made sure it reached 165F for at least 20 secs! (but you can just guess depending on how thin/thick your slices are- I am not an expert so I go with the temps :D)
Assembling:
bun, mayo, fried chicken and lettuce.. served with ketchup.
I’ve never had KFC’s zinger burger…so what exactly is a zinger burger? I hear a lot about it her on GS but not anywhere else. Is it like fried chicken but with breast meat instead??
