zinedine zidane and david beckham

i m big fan of both of them…i know both are retired from their home teams …but are they still playing football from any club …like mancheter untied or real madrid etc now days…?

Re: zinedine zidane and david beckham

I think Bekham was till he got injured..that is why he is not playing for the world cup this time :(

Re: zinedine zidane and david beckham

becks plays for LA galaxy and on loan with AC Milan, thats where he ot injured or we would have seen him for sure in this world cup.

Zidane has retired, you can see him play in the charity matches though

Re: zinedine zidane and david beckham

thnx x2...zidane is not related with any club shlub?

oh i thought beck is retire ...
waise bhi ager thek bhi hota tu england coach dont wana select him...

btw what happened to him ?

Re: zinedine zidane and david beckham

no england manage, fabio capello, was definitely going to select Beckham but then the injury happened ending that whole thing.

he tore his achilles

Re: zinedine zidane and david beckham

Zidane resides in Spain.....i think he's still advisor to Real Madrid...and as a side project, he is planning his revenge on Materazzi.

^ :hehe: I’d pay to see that! Gosh, that final…it was my birthday as well. Totally ruined my day!

Yup Zidane is advisor to Real Madrid’s president and I think he sometimes plays for Real’s veterans team as well.

Re: zinedine zidane and david beckham

Zinedine Zidane head and shoulders better than Beckham. He delivered on the international stage unlike Beckham (more hype than substance) who disappointed more often in World/European Cups. Beckham was a very good club footballer nevertheless :)

Argentina's Diego Maradona easily the best player that I have seen in my life

Re: zinedine zidane and david beckham

hmmm
how old is beck now?

Re: zinedine zidane and david beckham

^ 35 according to Google!

diego maradona was good volleyball player :)
zidane was def better than beckham but beckham was a worldclass player.
in a team sport even an excellent player can not carry the weight of the team on his own shoulder
there are plenty of beckham detractors but England's qualification would not be on track had it not benefitted from contributions from beckham, and even in their failings in previous worldcup, if there was one player that had an impact it was beckham.

all someone has to do is look at stats on assists and goals and not give in to anti beckham media stories when they and mcclaren needed to find a bogeyman, later mcclaren showed himself to be useless, and fabio brought in beckham to help with the england teams qualifiers.

what zidane and beckham have in common aside from being great players was that both were booted out of important matches in worldcup and increasing the odds that their teams would lose. beckham kicked a dude and zidane headbutted a dude.

You probably never watched Maradona in his prime

I know the english cannot stop moaning about that ‘hand of god’ goal in the 1986 WC conveniently forgetting the fact that Maradona scored a quite sensational second goal in the same game within 5 minutes of that first goal. Argentina beat England 2-0 (not 1-0). so handball or no handball Argentina would have still won that game.

And I could not care less if Man U are Premiership champions or it is Chelsea or Arsenal etc. Surely performance on the world or international stage should count more. I am not that into club football myself (although I do follow champions league etc.) just like I have no interest in who is winning county championship, Surrey, Essex etc.

And it is funny how some of you are defending Rooney’s (he might still go on to become one of the stars of this WC) below-par performance against USA by saying that he was not fed well by the other english players. True football is a team sport but great players also create chances themselves and do not necessarily wait to be fed at the mouth of the goal  Diego Maradona scored many spectacular goals all by his own sheer brilliance. One of the goals he scored against Germancy in the 1986 WC final was a gem and it is still fresh in my memory. Infact he had a hand in all three goals scored by Argentina (won 3-2). And as good as Zidane was as a footballer, he was not even close to Maradona’s brilliance. Maradona was a unique and special talent, a phenomenal player

And better this anyone..

Re: zinedine zidane and david beckham

But ppl say Pele was the Best.. though seen him playing..

Re: zinedine zidane and david beckham

but Zidane is my fav player..

No I am not that old :D

It is never fair to compare players across generations but Pele was arguably the best player of his time

I don't think that's fair on Zidane tbh...I'm too young to have seen Maradona in his prime but I have seen enough of his matches and clips to make an informed judgment. imo Zidane was the more talented and technical of the two. I think Zidane's flair on the pitch and his control over the ball was just unparalleled. Some of his technical moves were just flawless and quite simply beautiful to watch. He made it look so so easy. I'd say the best midfielder ever imo.

Re: zinedine zidane and david beckham

x2 what do u think
beckham didnt know when it is a respectable tym to retire?

I did see him in his prime, but that still does not change the fact that he cheated. I stated a fact. Maradonna was great in his time, no doubt about it, learn to take a joke about his volleyball, no need to throw your toys out of the pram  the same joke is now being made about henry and his handling of the ball against ireland, does not change the fact that henry was and is a great player but it does not change the fact that he cheated either.

rest of the editorial about club football or rooney is offtopic is irrelevant nut a nice attempt at a flame. sorry, no dice

His contribution and performance in world cup qualifiers as well as his contributions in club football for his clubs indicate that he is still a strong contributor, just because he is no longer at his peak does not mean he is still not a great player.

OK it's bad that he cheated though I highly doubt that anyone-else in Maradona's position in a game of that magnitude would have acted any different or admitted the handball!!

But don't you think that the English moan too much? I cannot stand rondi :)
