simply unbelievable! The Count of Monte Cristo is just NOT one of those movies that should be copied by any other -ollywood. The trailor had just begun and the story was evident, with Sunjay Dutt in solitary confinement begging to know of his crime, followed by his corpse being dragged out of the cell and him escaping from a coffin and so on.
Bollywood just seems to be churning out one blatant copy after the other. Have they really run out of themes? Atleast leave the classics alone. First pride and prejudice and now this
I'm just pissed that they are copying the movie. Even though I don;t dislike Sunjay Dutt I am not too fond of the idea of him playing Edmond Dantes. I will try to notice his hairstyle next time Mehnaz. I was too in shock to notice it yesterday.
Jon Abraham cannot be playing mondego, cos he much younger than sunjay dutt. u think he could be playing Dantes' son??????????? Or maybe that is the original touch bollywood will give to the movie, mondego and dantes years apart!
If that is his hair, it’s an absolutely terrible style. It looks horrible, like straw. Also, why does he age and John Abraham does not have a single gray hair?
If there is one director in Bollywood who truly gets inspired from Hollywood flicks rather than blatantly copying them, then it has to be Sanjay Gupta.
An accomplished technician and storyteller, no doubt he always has a source behind his movies but the fact is that he always tones it accordingly to suit Indian taste, sense and sensibilities.
His ‘Kaante’ was inspired by ‘Reservoir Dogs’ while ‘Musafir’ was a take on ‘U-Turn’ but never once did a viewer feel that he has copied the movie frame by frame.
Now going by the promos of his upcoming Zinda [Sanjay Dutt, John Abraham], it appears that it too has taken its inspiration from a Korean film ‘Old Boy’ directed by Park Chanwook. The movie is not too old and just recently won the Grand Jury Prize at Cannes 2004.
Theme of both the movies is identical - a man who has been locked up in isolation for 15 years without a reason being cited and then set free. Now he has just 4 days to find the reason behind him being kept captive!
Never mind Mr. Gupta, as long as you continue to serve slick products, which is your forte, we don’t mind watching your movies - even if they are inspired/remakes!
