Zia's killing Pak cinema, responsible for increase in vulgarity in Pak society

That is what you call love :D

People who made films like these were left after Zia's successful attempts to purge serious thinkers from the movie industry.

Just like its your personal opinion that stopping less vulgar movies of Pakistan means people should watch (more vulgar) Indian movies.

Re: Zia's killing Pak cinema, responsible for increase in vulgarity in Pak society

Its really hard to believe that 25 years have had no effect on mentality of our film producers or the regulations put forward by Zia. If the film industry is still living under Zia's shadows, it deserves to be in the state it is in.

Re: Zia's killing Pak cinema, responsible for increase in vulgarity in Pak society

oh and hint....... Irani movies win almost every award (of course other than oscar for obvious reasons)...and those movies are really treat to watch. No vulgarity, strong message ... out writers/directors (if you can really call them) find it easy to blame but cant move their @$$ to work hard

Who was purged and how and when...

It's not just my opinion, but a logical conclusion of what happens when a void exists.

Cinema of Pakistan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Imposition of new registration laws for film producers requiring filmmakers to be degree holders, where not many were, led to a steep decline in the workings of the industry. The government forcibly closed most of the cinemas in Lahore.[37] New tax rates were introduced, further decreasing cinema attendances.

I don't think any govt tried to revive cinema, after the disintegration process that was started by Zia.
Pak film ind is alive, but it is very close to dying. Imagine Lahore making less than 6 movies a year!

Industry needs new dedicated people right now, and support from govt.

Re: Zia's killing Pak cinema, responsible for increase in vulgarity in Pak society

While we do need new dedicated people, I do sincerely hope the the government DOES NOT support these monkeys trying to make 'movies'. They have absolutely NO creative cells in their brain. If they continue to make this embarrassing stuff, its better for us that the industry dies.

Lack of funds and equipment is no excuse for dumbest storyline and hilarious vulgarity. Just believe Decent 6 Chora when he says Iranian movies are fantastic and I guess they are possibly made on a lower budget than Lollywood ones.

Government should take an ACTION. I agree.

But the Government can only help Pak institutions by "GETTING OUT of their WAY".

That means governments including Federal, state, and city should get rid of draconian rules and regulations on the "artistic expression".

The movie industry should institute (or perhaps emulate) the movie rating system based on language, violence, and nudity/vulgarity.

Let's say kissing the lips is unacceptable to general masses, then go ahead and slap R rating on it.

That goes for all the movies from Lollywood, Bollywood, or Hollywood.

Then everyone from cinema management to advertisers to movie goers will be able to identify a movie and how it should be dealt with.

You will see that movie makers will try their best to not get the R-rating if they want their movie to reach the mass audience.

It is time for us to accept that movies are covered under "freedom of expression", and the only regulation to apply is the "rating system".

Then let the movie goers choose which movie they want to see. I bet an average Pakistani is smart enough to decide if he/she wants to go an R-rated move or PG-rated or G rated.

The government should also allow the shopping malls to add complexes of mini-theaters. This will improve the type of entertainment available to the average Pak.

In summary - Pak government should get out of the business of "Over-Regulations". It has stifled the creative spirit of Paks.

Shame on you! How did you forget the great Irani movie Children of Heaven (بچه*های آسمان)

where do you live? You should have said...

"movie makers will try their best to get the R-rating if they want their movie to reach the mass audience."

:D

Re: Zia's killing Pak cinema, responsible for increase in vulgarity in Pak society

^ Just proves the point that all that is left now in Pakistani film industry is vulgarity and vulgar people. No-thanks to Zia's successful attempts to scare away and demoralize talented people.

Burqa, I tend to agree with you, but have some concerns about unregulated freedom-of-expression issue.

Re: Zia's killing Pak cinema, responsible for increase in vulgarity in Pak society

The movies issue has the potential to be the Boston tea party of Pakistan. The rebellion would be against the vice grip of the fundamentalists.

KB,

I got the joke.

R-rating will perhaps be a big deal in the beginning, but the biggest draw for the movies "in the long run" will be the families. Believe me, Pak and Indian parents much rather have Kiss-less, and sexually toned down versions of their movies if they can ever get one.

Family oriented fun has always been popular and the biggest draw for the TV audience.

At least in many many families, we all will breathe a sigh of relief if we know ahead of time, the rating for a movie.

Movie rating is the best kind of "REGULATION", especially Hollywood movies type rating.

American TV and game developers missed out and made the rating system too large and thus too confusing.

It is just like finding via the food label, what is "in it"?
