does anybody remember this show? It was so classy. hosted by zia moyadduin . is it available online?

It was in 1972-73 that PTV-Karachi based on a concept from Zia Uncle himself...ventured to step in on stage shows--live before a reasonably large number of audience.

Zia Uncle..besides being a close friend to my Dad since early 50's...is also related to us...his first wife Sarwat being my Dad's 2nd cousin.

I was a young officer in Habib Bank-Nursery Branch-PECHS, Karachi those days..when my stints at PTV-K had started taking off as an extra curricular activity....hence I was, mostly on Saturdays & Sundays, almost a part & parcel of PTV's hectic activities dedicated to providing entertainment to the large majority of viewers---as PTV was the only channel in Pakistan with Mondays as OFF transmission days..then.

During the preparation of ZIA MOHEYUDDIN SHOW...I became an unaccredited manager to Zia Uncle--as I marketed his personal account at my Nursery Branch where the PTV cheques/talent fee of Zia Uncle was deposited..which also bought the eyes & ears of my Manager on me and I received laurels.

*ZIA SHOW was recorded before a live audience--every Saturday at 8 pm at the (Naval) Fleet Club Auditorium. *

The format was that ZM use to appear first..speak to the audience on some literary subject (his favorite being NOON MEEM RASHID).. and then would invite the guests of that day...guests being famous persons of Pakistan. Every WHO's WHO of Pakistan then--has appeared in ZMS..including my Dad (Jamiluddin Aali) and his bosom buddy Ibne Insha... together.

At the end of his show, Zia Uncle would stylishly pick up the mic...come upfront the stage and say: *Haan Bhyee...lagay THEHKA? *and then some very interesting anecdote..composed by himself or someone, was recited , by him on slow background music. (This thehka was recited in the exact manner and tone..some of you may have seen on video...of the PTV Award Ceremony of Rawalpindi where Moin Akhtar dressed in Zia Uncle's style of his shows of yesteryears----recited *YE JO PTV AWARD HAI...DESIGN ISSKA ODD HAI...OOPER SE YE NARROW HAI...NEECHAY SE YE BROAD HAI... JO MIL JAI TOW THEEK HAI AUR NA MILEY TO FRAUD HAI...........)*

One of the most remembered THEHKA by Zia Uncle was *"SHAKIRA KII MAA YE BOLI"...*which..(per memory) was something like this;

"Shakira Ki Maa Ye Boli...Mujhey Apni Larki Ke Leeay Burr Chaheeyay.
*** Chahay ho woh goonga...chahay ho langraa...magarr ho CSP! "***

Some of the best shows included the ones which had; *Filmstar Muhammad Ali, Actress Shamim Ara, Singer Runa Laila, Aalijee-Inshajee, Khushbakht Shujaat, Mushtaq Ahmed khan Yusufi, Anwar Maqsood..and the famous Camel Cart Driver BASHIR.*

I was at the recording of every show. It was my routine...to be at Fleet Club on a fixed time and later drop Zia Uncle..at times at his Bahaduryar Jung Society residence.

The end of ZMS saw Zia Uncle taking on to movies and he did two.. which didn't click..though the song picturised on him and the lead lady Rozina "Honton Pe Tabassum...Nazar sehmi sehmi...hogayee re humein ghallat fehmi" was a hit then.

Later Zia Uncle became the Director of PIA Arts Academy...and during his tenure there--Naheed Siddqui the khala of TV star Arifa Siddqui....came in Zia Uncle's life..they got married and happily settled till some years back they sought their own paths..and Zia Uncle again got married third time and appear to be finally settled now...currently heading NAPA (National Academy of Performing Arts) at karachi.

Zia Uncle's son from Sarwat Aunty.......RISHA MOHEYUDDIN was Chief of UBL's Treasury Operations till last year---when he left for Melbourne-Australia to settle down.

I am afraid there no recording or DVD available in market---BUT----as I understand...the archive department of PTV at its Headquarters in Islamabad...has ONE original of the famous and most sought after program in B&W *ZIA MOHEYUDDIN SHOW.*

Please pardon some errors or hiccups---but he fact is that I am not writing all this stuff by refering to some book or scrapnote on my records...it's just my memory.....!

wow uncle ! that wa s a great write up..... I know about this thehka 'shakira ki maan..'... I was looking for the complete verse. does thehka mean 'sheyr' ? I saw a clip from this show in which khalid abbass dar came to perform. it was really funny.

PTV kyon in sab programs ko qabzay mein kar ke baitha hai. atleast release them on dvd so ppl can watch.

No "Mujhey" there, Just Apni Larki kay leeay Burr Chahheeyay.:)

Lagey Theka routine was classic, very original. Moin Akhtar did a great paraody in PTV award of that routine.

I heard that awward's whole script was written by Shoaib Mansoor? Am I right ARJAY bhai

Absolutely....it was the mastermind of Shoaib. I remember--we were there at Liaqat Memorial Hall at that PTV Awards ceremony. I was sitting with Hasina and Shehnaz Sheikh..when Moin dressed in Zia Uncle attire of 70's (by TEEJAYS)...came and recited in typical Zia Uncle's tone;

OOPER SE YE NARROW HAI...AUR NEECHAY SE YE BROAD HAI...

what was the reaction from hasina apa and shehnaz sheikh ?the last verse sound like he's criticizing her or rather complaining to her in a polite manner. which is fair.
