Zardari fears Balkanisation Monday, January 14, 2008
ISLAMABAD: PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari has said the world should be considerate and concerned about Pakistan, the Balkanisation of the country and everything that is within it, and not just one exclusive item [international concerns about Pakistan’s nuclear assets].
“I think the whole of Pakistan, the nation of 175 million people, needs to be looked after. We need to be assisted, we need to be helped, we need to be cared for. I am worried for Pakistan, therefore we have been fighting for democracy,” NNI quoted him as telling the Voice of America.
“We are scared that Pakistan will break (up). We are hoping that the US will help us form a democracy, will put its force behind the policy of free and fair elections and help Pakistan fight the terrorism which we are faced with.” Zardari said the recent terrorist attacks in the country were part of efforts to rig or postpone the February elections. …

On international level, who really wants "united" Pakistan? Even Pakistani people are now discussing possibilities of Pakistan splitting up as if they are talking about load-shedding.

Mr. Zardari seems like the modern age afghan *******s that "invited" the russians into afghanistan. I have very few doubt if zardari didn't get bb killed in the process though she was no farishta either...

i would hate to see pakistan split up but the fact is a lot of media attention is being focused upon it. sindhi nationalism has increased and that too suddenly. discussion is good. its good to explore different view points.

Reminds me of the map that was put up here some time ago - of refigurign the boundaries of the middle east.
Heck, with muslims caving in regarding breaking up their country into pieces, its going to be real easy for the US to take control of oil sources in the region. Well, if you don't have a problem with it, I wont be complaining about my lowering gas prices when Pakistan is being torn into pieces. I'm just going to remind myself that its people asked for it...
so what else is zardari going to talk about? does he have the education or the work experience that will enable him to come up with a vision to take pak forward? zardari is the head of country's largest parties and yet i have not heard him being questioned on how he plans to attract foreign investment, grow exports, help manufacturing sector compete in world mkts and turn pak into an agricultural powerhouse.
bascially its only the jaahil and ill bred leaders who talk about division on ethnic or sectarian lines - something which has been forbidden by prophet mohammed and something which jinnah had strictly warned against. the fact leader of the largest policy can talk so openly against country's interest is good idication of how cluless pakistanis are about what it takes to run a country. under leaders like zardari pak has far greater chance of turning into an iraq or afghanistan than into a korea or taiwan. scary thought indeed.

When Musharraf has asked for help from US (8 years aid sponsorship, a permanent member) you all appreciated It. Now Zardari has become verbal on this issue It becomes hypocrisy. Pretty amusing stuff.
