Zardari allegedly made big money in sub-marine sale**

Updated at: 1820 PST, Wednesday, November 11, 2009
PARIS: Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari is suspected of having received millions of dollars in kickbacks from the 1994 sale of three French submarines to the Pakistani Navy, a French daily reported.

In addition, investigators believe that the non-payment of the full amount of the agreed kickbacks may have led to the deaths of 11 French nationals in a 2002 terror attack in the city of Karachi.

The report says the French daily acquired documents that allegedly show that Zardari received 4.3 million dollars in kickbacks from the sale of three Agosta 90 submarines for 825 million euros (currently 1.237 billion dollars).

The documents were sent to the Pakistani National Accountability Bureau (NAB) by British authorities in April 2001 and indicate that Zardari received several large payments into his Swiss bank accounts from a Lebanese businessman, Abdulrahman el-Assir, in 1994 and 1995.

According to a former executive of the French naval defence company DCN, French authorities chose el-Assir to act as intermediary in the deal. He allegedly deposited a total of 1.3 million dollars in Zardari’s bank accounts between August 15 and 30, 1994, one month before the submarine contract was signed, and then 1.2 million dollars and 1.8 million dollars one year later.

According to DCN employees who testified in the terror attack investigation, the kickbacks to Pakistan in the deal totalled 10 per cent of the purchase amount, with 6 per cent, or 49.5 million dollars, going to the military and 4 per cent, or 33 million euros, being funneled to political circles.

Re: Zardari allegedly made big money in sub-marine sale

So now Zardari killed the French engineers as well??

Zardari was involved in corruption, no doubt.

As have all politicians/generals- except Imran Khan.

However, Zardari has already served close to a decade in jail for it. None of the Admirals, or any military men involved in this deal ever spent a day in jail.

Always pointing the fingers at Zardari while ignoring all others is useless

Re: Zardari allegedly made big money in sub-marine sale

that was in 1994...u guys have any recent allegations?

it would be good if the corruption done by our brave and noble jarnails also came out...

You missed the fine print on this allegation. The generals are alleged to make 50% more commision on this deal. The headline is, however, about Zardari for some reason.

"the kickbacks to Pakistan in the deal totalled 10 per cent of the purchase amount, with 6 per cent, or 49.5 million dollars, going to the military and 4 per cent, or 33 million euros, being funneled to political circles."

Re: Zardari allegedly made big money in sub-marine sale

The admiral then was also involved, he was got arrested , made to come back to Pakistan and on a deal, he had deposited about 7 million back by NAB.

funny things, on french side the guy who was invloved is now also a president. Sarkozi ! so both are presidents now.

even now the current sub order from germany is being forced by our dear president to delay and re order from france! that is something fishy. but why would even be worried about that,

zardari- what do we expect from him??? he is doing what he is expected to do!

stop complaining and get on with it.

Re: Zardari allegedly made big money in sub-marine sale

Alligation again, I wish someone would go in front of Punjabi Azad CJ iftakar Chaudry. and these alligation.

How about originator of the post. He should go infront of Punjabi Azad CJ Iftekhar Chaudhry and file case against him. Zardari hate mafia only focus on Zardari, and ignore the bigger military/navy chors involved in this corruption. Let CJ take over this case and call first the bigger chors in his court.

If he can not file the case and has no guts to do that, then he should STFUP.

Re: Zardari allegedly made big money in sub-marine sale

i just came here to laff at those of you who are getting all emotional and worked up in support of your dear, beloved zardari :hehe:

jiayalas like you do more damage to the PPP than good. I believe you're the same dude who used to post nonsensical rubbish on pkpolitics as well... I would like to support the PPP but start to have serious reservations when I see rabid, blind supporters like you.

firstly, what does this have to do with the CJ? I know you hate him. can you and your leadership not get this into your thick little heads that the CJ didn't have to be restored because he was THE savior or because he was an angel. he had to be restored because it was the RIGHT thing to do. it was the constitutional thing to do. if Dogar was the CJ instead of Iftikhar Chauhdry and was removed in a similar manner, I would have supported his return too just as a matter of principle even though Dogar is a very corrupt, awful little man.

secondly, it isn't the CJ's job to go around fixing everything on the planet. and yes I know that he is (or maybe was) a little too active with suo moto notices, but he wouldn't get the opportunity to do this if the govt actually did its job, would he?

and lastly, wtf does this have to do with his being Punjabi? btw, he is of Baloch descent. I will admit that other ethnicities and provinces have at times been screwed over by Punjab, but it would also be nice if PPP supporters stopped playing the Sindh vs Punjab card to justify every retarded thing they come up with. the PPP govt wouldn't been in so much trouble if Zardari simply restored the judges as he promised multiple times. but he went back on his word, looked like a fool and now, his blind supporters look just as foolish playing the ethnic card to cover their bitterness over the judiciary issue.

you jiyalas have some serious problems. wish you would learn to reason a little bit. you drive ppl like me away who want to join the party and support it but your blind devotion and inability to think critically stands in the way. PPP exists for Pakistan - not the other way around.

btw, it's spelled allegation...

nahin bhai. We are asking, you guys who focus on 4% but close your eyes on 6% of the loot. That money belonged to Pakistani people, in saaray choron including military/navy who are bigger share holder of the loot, in ke halaq se yeh paisay nikalanay chahian. Don't you agree with that?

This person is leading our troops into battle but does not have the countries interest at heart, how ironic.
