In old urdu, billa also means Tamgha.

ok guys, time to reveal the meaning of BILLA!
Billa = badge, monogram, logo
most commonly use i found is in India/ Pakistan where all coolies wear a BILLA on their arms which is their identification number, just in case if he runs away with your valuable luggage. 
remember the Amitabh’s famous Billa number 786 which saved his life in the movie Coolie…after he recovered from near fatal injury sustained in during the shooting of one of the scenes in that movie, he said, “meraa billa number 786 hai jis ne mujhe sach meN bachaa liyaa”…you already know the significance of the number 786 among the Muslims.
i used to have AMU Billa on the collar of my sherwani which was the uniform of Aligarh Muslim University…we wore sherwani on certain occasions only…like the Sir Syed Day Dinner, Convocation and Eids

u r right...i agree with you that there is NO religious significance of 786 in Islam but what i meant was that it has a 'PERCEIVED" significance due to ilm-e-aadaa **where every letter in a text has a number associated with it and **786 is the total number for all the letters used in the text "Bismillah ar raHmaan ir RaHeem". this 786 has replaced 'Bismillah...' to avoid any be-Hurmati of the text if it finds it's way in a letter discarded in a dustbin or worse.

but in Hindi Script there are only 3 letters in Hari [NOT 4] and in Krishna, only 5 letters [not 7]. well, i dunno!
