I just want to check how muslims abroad give zakat.. to the muslim organizations or send it back home?
Our family sends zakat collectively back home to our elder who distributes to some needy directly.. like helping some one to get out of loan etc.. I know zakat cant be given to all.. who can be the receipients of Zakat money?
Degas there are some good groups that are very responsible with zakat money i.e. none of it goes towards the prganization's own operational costs etc. Look up Human development foundation or edhi etc.
Zakat can not be given to immediate family members. aside from that I am not sure

From what assume we are obliged to first look around and see if some one is needy.. then go to organizations .. I know Edhi is a great organization..
Degas you are correct that the preference is that you should look around and locate deserving people in the community. That is the beauty of the system its direct help to the needy and there is little chance ofp waste becuase someone knows the ppl and know the needs rather than blindly giving ti to someone who claim they have needs.
