Zakat - Question

Can zakat be given in the form of a salary? A standard salary is given for work and an additional fixed amount is paid on top of that as zakat on a monthly basis?

Re: Zakat - Question

I am assuming that you are referring to a situation when you have a maid/servant whom you pay regular salary and now want to pay them zakat also.

If they are less then sahib-e-Nisab and mustahiq .. then off course you can add zakat in their salary

Re: Zakat - Question

... It would need to be calculated by splitting the 2.5% on monthly basis. 0.20833%

However, you would also have to recalculate every month as well. Because each month typically you will only be paying out a 12th of the zakat you owe for the year's saving.

Re: Zakat - Question

*NO...zakat is given without any return in cash or kind *

Re: Zakat - Question

^ He is not saying that, he is asking if he can add zakat to someone's salary on monthly basis.

Re: Zakat - Question

It is a fairly involved calculation to do this:

Let's say we have $X saving for 1 year @ month number 1

Therefore Total Zakat @ Month 1 = $0.025X

Split for first month = $0.0020833X

Remainder zakat not paid goes back into the saving and hence for month no. 2,

We have ($0.9979167X + $Y) * 0.025 = Total Zakat to pay by month no. 2

where $Y is equal to the amount saved for 1 year, plus the amount of zakat left from the previous month, which is now 1 year but plus 1 month overdue)

And so on

Re: Zakat - Question

bangs head against the wall I thought I left math back in school. And NYA is right. It refers to help around the house.

I will just pay more than 2.5% every month so its fine. I rather pay more than pay less.
