Re: Zahra Haiders Article about relationships in Pakistan
Good grief. Putting religion aside, even among the more liberal goray folk…12 partners doesn’t conjure up a flattering image of a girl. Many among the liberal lot would also feel hesitation/sharam in confessing to having slept with “12” partners to someone they’re dating. Applause would be a disturbing reaction…but an attitude of dismissal or condoning is no better. Using protection isn’t a 100% guarantee. And there are also emotional/psychological consequences to consider. Men and women respond to sexual intimacy differently. While exceptions among the genders exist, it tends to be easier for men to cut ties, walk-away and never look back…while for many women such intimacy is a bigger deal. Yes, both genders have sexual needs, but they’re wired differently and so it affects them differently. When this type of recklessness becomes frequent, people start having a dismissive attitude about it…and that results in lack of ehtaraam/respect for relationships/marriages…the sanctity is gone.
