ISLAMABAD: Former captain Zaheer Abbas has offered to become the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman in a bid to salvage the PCB’s sinking reputation in the country.
“Pakistan cricket is facing problems because of variety of reasons and if the government asks me to head the cricket board I would be willing to do it as we need to set our cricket system right,” Abbas said.
Zaheer said the fielding standards of the team had plunged to new lows in recent matches and there was a need to have a professional fielding coach attached with the team, a private news channel reported.
“When I say a fielding coach I mean someone like the Australian fielding coach the Indian team has appointed. Not a part time arrangement like we have had with fielding coaches in recent months,” he said.
Zaheer said it was high time the authorities took notice of the state of affairs in the PCB and set things right.
“There are many people willing to give time and work selflessly for the betterment of Pakistan cricket.
It is sad that today despite being such a strong side we are number seven in the one-day rankings and number six in Test cricket rankings,” he said. -APP
Re: Zaheer Abbas offers to head Pakistan Cricket Board
In 2006 While in UK, someone asked Shahjee to take a coaching course which teaches how to be an effective coach, how to coach others from what your knowledge of the game is...and the great man replied.."Yaar Main Coaching Classain Looun??, Maaaain?"

Yeah and he was standing alongside Naseem Ashraf in the balcony at the Oval in 2006 when Inzi made some stupid decisions and Zaheer was constantly on the phone. I think Zaheer is the same as others.
Re: Zaheer Abbas offers to head Pakistan Cricket Board
I am sick and tired of former Cricketers feeling they are entitled to head the board because they played good cricket for 20 odd years. What administrative experience do you have Mr. Abbas?
This 'seniority based entitlement' thinking is responsible for our senior players feeling they are entitled to be the Captain when they have no leadership skills, and people like Abbas and Miandad to feel they should be in charge of the board when they have absolutely zero administrative experience!!
^ It is true for purely administrative posts such as PCB Chairman but since in Pakistan, it is essentially a political appointment and PCB heads have a habit of poking their noses into everything from team selections to appointments of captain and coach, good knowledge of cricket if not experience of international cricket should be an essential requirement in addition to administrative experience. Either is bad IMO
ECB Chairman for instance does not get involved in the business of selecting teams for various tours.
Chairman of selectors MUST however be someone who has played cricket at the highest level
