Subji in hindi - well atleast with the Delhi accent.
Stuff like that i havent noticed it on 3 or 4 otherwords but i dont remember them.
As I understand, Asif_k is Bengali, though I may be wrong. All of the Bangladeshis who I know say 'j' instead of 'z' very often.
So for example, I have never met a single person calling himself Zeeshan from Bangladesh. However, I have met a lot of Jeeshans (spelt Zeeshan) from Bangladesh.
My mum's best friend is from a family split between Karachi and Dhaka. Those in Karachi call her Zeba, those in Dhaka call her Jeba.

CL - You Ignorant PAKI ! I speak HINDI and not URDU. I am inconsistent in my writting because of my interaction with many pakistanis in US and on this forum.
Maddy - I am not Bengali but a Pukka BIHARI from Lallo's district in Northern Bihar but you are right about the 'J' & 'Z' part because both Bangla & Hindi have roots in Sanskrit and that's why some similarities are there in our pronounciation. However, That's where the similarities end.

Changej, it is not a big issue in India. Observe a group of 10 and they will be mixing their j's and z's and no one will notice. Hindi/urdu have become one melting pot.

I don't think it's hindi=urdu BUT i think people who speak hindi can understand urdu and vice versa BUT these pronounciation difference have to do with language/alphabet of each language and thus pronouciation lets you know where/what someone is speaking....
My husband is a Memon and for some reason he always pronounces Fard namaaz as faraj...drives me batty....:) call me snobby but I think using the z is a much more elegant way to say the words.
oh before anyone else says it..i will.. I know Farz is really Fard but not really d so it's a z/d sound and that's what I try to say rather than Z like all desis say.

I know what you mean by "Change*j*", but its alright for me. My simple question was that does Hindi really replace all "z" with "j"? or is it some words? or an individual's choice :D ?

If "Hindian" is ok, why get riled up when someone calls us Paki?? if you demand respect.. learn to give others the same respect first. No need to hurl personal insults.

Changez - are you trying to mock Hindi or just showing your Ignorance about it ? Incase you are trying to mock then let me tell you every Language is great and whoever tries to mock others' Language has some serious insecurities about his/her own language.
Anyways, I will assume the 2nd one and will try to educate you on Hindi - While writting in Hindi all the Z's are replaced with 'J' because there is no alphabet in Hindi for the letters like 'Z', 'Q' etc. Zebra will be written as Jebra, Zia as 'JIA' , Haq as 'Hak' and so forth. You wont find any inconsistency when these words are written in HINDI Language or Devnagri Script. The problem or the inconsistency comes when we write those words in english alphabets and some times we use JIA, some times 'Zaheer', sometimes Haq and sometimes Hak, and that's because of the individual exp.
For example I used to write Sarfaraz Nawaz as Sarfaraj Nawaj until someone pointed it out, now I know how it is how it should be written. I have many Indian friends who write their names as Jafar, Rijwan etc. The other day I was watching a program on Zee TV and one of the Singers wasn't able to differentiate between 'PHIR' & 'FIR' and lost the competition because of that.
