Yuvraj Fined

This is insult over injury. Poor guy.

*Yuvraj Singh has been fined 20% of his match fee for “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision” during the final ODI between India and Pakistan in Jaipur.

Yuvraj was given out by umpire Suresh Shastri during India’s chase, after he miscued a pull off Umar Gul to the keeper. However, instead of walking, an upset Yuvraj stood his ground, and indicated the ball had hit his shoulder and not his bat or glove.

Though Yuvraj had been charged with “showing serious dissent at an umpire’s decision”, Roshan Mahanama, the ICC match referee, downgraded the charge to “showing dissent” after taking in to account the fact that Yuvraj, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, had apologised for any offence he may have caused and that it was his first appearance at a Code of Conduct hearing in eight years at the international level.

“I took into account several factors in downgrading the charge, including the player’s previous excellent conduct, his apology at the hearing, the fact it was a spontaneous act out of character with his normal behaviour and that he did not appear to use foul or offensive language,” Mahanama said.

"However, the fact remains that when the umpire raises his finger a player must leave the crease immediately and without question no matter what he may think of the decision.

“That is one of cricket’s most fundamental principles and Yuvraj’s failure to adhere to that principle, especially given the message his action sends out to the millions of people watching at the ground and on television, merited some form of action.”

Re: Yuvraj Fined

I simply don’t get it…..youraj did not say a single word or hit the stumps…all he did was to express his shock by shaking his head and pointing towards his shoulder….why are rules so strict….players are not robots and ICC should understand it too...

Re: Yuvraj Fined

Exactly, i dont recall him being rude. He just stood there in disbelief.

Re: Yuvraj Fined

This is ridiculous. ICC really needs to lose the head master attitude.

Re: Yuvraj Fined

thats silly... he didnt do anythin wrong ...all he did was just stayed at he pitched and expressed his feelings towards the umpire'z decision... its rediculous..

Re: Yuvraj Fined

Yet another stupidity by ICC. Rather Dhoni should have been fined for his poor acting on the field.

Re: Yuvraj Fined

Acha hua :D

Re: Yuvraj Fined

ICC always target Indians and pakistanis .They are searching for a reason .That was a shocking decision and it was a natural reaction from Yuvi. I can't see any Australian or English getting that . Oho ...they are funny people who just throw jelly beans on the pitch .

Re: Yuvraj Fined

What a pathetic rule. He just stayed for 3 sec in disbelieve as it was definetely a not out. Sometimes it happens, human react in such situation. He didn't say anything, once he realized that umpire got it completely wrong, he walked towards pavilion.

On the umpire's side as well, he thought Yuvrag is leaving volunteerly, so he raised the finger (in my opinion). it was a very close decision anyway.

ICC needs to look at the situation, some blind old men.

Re: Yuvraj Fined

really crappy rule. ICC should look into this and ease up a bit.

FYI, Youvi did said something and after that Umpire was nervous as HELL :D

Re: Yuvraj Fined

it may be a stupid rule however it is according to ICC code of conduct. As soon as I saw Yuvraj's reaction, I knew that is going to be consdiered atleast a level 1 offence. ICC policy clearly states that the players are not suppose to object or show dissent at an umpring decision.

I know it is sometimes unnatural to expect players to leave the pitch without showing any reaction at all in such circumstances. However that is the point which is raised again and again and again when players do show dissent and are fined just because players are expected not to protest in any way after a decision.

Yuvaj is not the first player to be fined/punished after showiing dissent. Alot of players are reprimanded for just staying on the wicket when they are adjudged out unfarily. Yuvraj infact not only stayed on the wicket for a long time but also said something to Shastri along with a gesture showing that the ball touched his shoulder. If you look at past instances, you will consider Yuvraj lucky that he got the mimimum fine when he actually reacted more strongly as compared to other players who have been previously reprimanded. Had it been Broad, this could have been considered showing serious dissent under level 2 offence.

Re: Yuvraj Fined

Fkhan, lets agree it is a rule. But be honest, If that would have been Haydn or Gilchrist the decision would have been referred to the 3rd Umpire. Pooch ne Ke liye ke ye really out hai ya naih, before anything else in first place.

Re: Yuvraj Fined

i agree with fkhan, he got punished for pointing to his shoulder which is right under the rules

but i also agree with you...this 3rd umpire business is very inconsistent. sometimes gora players will get a referral if they stand their ground but other players get a fine for dissent.

Re: Yuvraj Fined

not necessary that such an appeal would have been referred to the 3rd umpire. Sometimes they do but alot of umpires still don’t feel comfortable asking the 3rd umpire for anything other then a line decision.

However I can tell you what would possibily have been the final outcome, had it been a high profile Aussie or an english player. The referree would have said that he decided NOT to fine/reprimand because the game was evenly poised and the poor player just reacted due to the tense situation of the game

Re: Yuvraj Fined

Lol, yea perhaps you are right there. And yet It’s not just fair. Is it?!
But nothing is fair in this world anyway.

Re: Yuvraj Fined

:hula:

Re: Yuvraj Fined

I wonder if Umpires get rated for mistakes they make.
