Alright, I think it’s already been explained before but I need to hear it again. What exactly does this entail?
Honestly, I just don’t have the energy to stand there and straighten my hair for an hour (or longer) after washing it. So what exactly is this straightening method? Where can I get it done? How long does it last for? Approximately, how much does it cost?
There are lots of different types of permanant hair straightening treatments but Yuko is generally considered to be the creme de la creme as it seals moisture into the hair which makes it softer and shinier. Something to do with ionising or whatever.
Procedure is something like this: first they wash your hair, then leave a pre conditioning treatment on your hair for around 20-30 mins. Then they wash it out and apply another spray which releases the curl in your hair structure. Then they iron it flat with GHD's which is the part that takes ages as they literally do a few strands of hair at a time. So remember to take a good book with you.
Then they wash it again and apply some kind of neutralising liquid and deep conditioner and blow dry or GHD the whole lot again.
You can't tie your hair back, wash it or tuck it behind your ears etc for 48 hours but thats a small price to pay for silky smooth hair.
Can't really say where you could get it done offhand, I would just phone around the local salons ask for recommendation. Pricewise, it's pretty expensive initially but when you consider how much time you're going to be saving then its worth it in my opinion.
Adding to what Shahreen has said, as to where to have it done. Make sure it's a good salon. My cousin refuses to have it done in Canada so she had it done in California. I'm sure Toronto has a few places too. Mehnaz, it's so worth the money. I think she paid about US$160. And I paid the same in Japan, but hers is much nicer.
As catty says, you might have to travel a bit to get it done at a good place. I had to go to London for a weekend to get mine done as nowhere locally offered it. And I only wanted Yuko as opposed to other permanant hair straightening treatments.
Toronto prices seem pretty cheap though, catty is it definetely Yuko that your sister had done? If so, next time I need it done I'm coming to Canada.
It's permanent, until your hair begins to grow out that is. My cousin has really curly hair so you can see it growing at the roots and now she has to blow dry it a little at the top so it matches with the rest. lol Mehnaz I dont think you'll have that problem because your hair is wavy.
Larki, I gues it's true when they say that the grass is greener on the other side. I had my hair yuko'd and then spent ages the other day tonging it all cos I wanted to be wavy again.
But at least the option is there. Also when you do curl your hair after, the curls are more shiner and defined with no frizz.
Ah but you can catty. You can't have any of the other hair straightening treatments on highlighted hair but Yuko you can. I had my highlights done at the same time, which in hindsight was a bad idea as I ended up spending all day sitting in the chair being asked about my holiday.
Hmm, thanks for your responses. Hmmm, I am seriously considering this. I kinda like having my waves ... but straight hair is fabulous too ... I dunno .... so confusing. sigh
what about the damage aspect of yuking ur hair.. i mean .. there had got to be some effects.. Mehnaz if u wanna keep ur curl try gettin a ceramic flat hair iron, (im sure its damaing as well )
well i have tried the ferouk chi turbo flat hair iron n it made my hair liek u kno japanese ppl have.. really gooood.. if u wanna keep ur waves.. go for a flat hair iron.. its quicker than blodrying... takes me liek 5-10 mins n im done..
Yuko is actually good for your hair as it seals moisture into the hair shaft. And long term you're not subjecting your hair to regular blowdrying or hair straighteners.
Shinoo, you saw me with my hair straightened in London. You should see me with wavy hair. I don’t know if I would want to switch though … the thought of losing my waves is too much.
I think I’ll just stick to my straight plates for now. I haven’t straightened my hair since … November of last year! Man, it feels good to just leave it wavy. However, we’ll have to see how I feel when humidity strikes my hair. Then it tends to curl even more … hopefully, it won’t frizz.
Do you ever get frizzy hair after you have had it permanently straightened?
