Use Firefox, add the add-on called Downloadhelper or others similar to it.

or Install real player, after installation open youtube video just move your mouse over to video and you'll see option to download the video.

Real player is just irritating..and has a heavy foot print.
Real Player is notorious for its workarounds for personal privacy. The app comes bundled with advertising software misleadingly calls it the “message center”, and it installs some additional undisclosed software components such as the Rhapsody Player and does not remove those components when the end-user uninstalls RealPlayer.

but firenze... at least google doesn't hide that fact. it's all included in their terms of service (albeit a pain to read)... on the other hand, realplayer doesn't publicly disclose its adware.

If you need to play Real Media files use this other utility called Real Alternative:
Real Alternative will allow you to play RealMedia files without having to install RealPlayer/RealOne Player

I think the FF add-ons are thoroughly tested..aren't they? They don't let malicious software or any other kind of '-ware' on it.
