YouTube has removed videos by a radical American-born Yemeni Islamist cleric after complaints from the US and UK. The site said hundreds of clips of Anwar al-Awlaki’s calls to jihad violated a ban on hate speech and incitement to violence.
**A YouTube spokeswoman said the company tried to balance its commitment to free speech with the need to prevent calls to violence.“We will continue to remove all content that incites violence according to our policies. Material of a purely religious nature will remain on the site.”

So can someone tell me why videos by hate mongerers like Geert Wilders are still on youtube despite the fact that hundreds of people must have flagged them? What is so “purely religious” about his documentary Fitna? Why doesn’t freedom of speech apply to Al-Awlaki’s videos? (not that I want his videos to stay!)
The difference between al awlaki and wilders is the fact that wilders never said let's go and kill all muslims, or directly incited violence unlike al awlaki who waged a jihad.
The only violence that could possibly come out of wilder's views are those of crazy muslims who threaten to kill him or blow up embassies or whatever, or maybe neo nazis who would pull off a woman's hijab (because of his calls to ban hijab), but it can't be wilders fault because he doesn't actually encourage it. Alot of these "hate mongers" actually do not hate muslims themselves they just don't like the ideology they follow.
Ovbviously i don't support wilders, but I don't think you can put him on the same line as al-awlaki
And also I don't think youtube is referring to fitnah as "purely relgiious" it just referring to the other islamic videos on there. withot the jihadi let's kill all kuffar sentiment
BarbieCue, the difference is knowing the legal boundaries. Geert also promotes hate speech but he KNOWS how far he can push "freedom of speech" lines, unlike preachers on youtube.

I doubt any one of us is actually going to get brainwashed by these youtube preachers and become jihadists ready to kill all kuffar
These videos cannot create a brand new army of jihadists, talk about UK/USA insecurities! The current taalibans didn’t emerge out of watching youtube videos, they came from areas where the internet is pretty much non-existent! So UK/USA need to spend their energies on the real issues.
The most these videos can do is create hatred between muslims and other religions and Wilder’s videos do exactly the same so I don’t see the difference. Just because he’s being a bit discrete doesn’t make him less dumb, it just makes him more shrewd.
any of us..maybe not, but there are others who are impressionable or have some situation in their life where they are trying to be someone or belong to something etc..
how do cults recruit members? through propaganda, and not all of it is in person.
yes many of the illiterate miltants did not watch youtube, they can barely read let alone be surfing the web..but there are enough militants that were educated and somehow somethings got them thinking in a twisted manner.
whether it was faisal shahzad the failed times square bomber, this new jackass in dc who was looking into blowing up tube stations, the morons in UK that did blow up tube stations. those are real issues..
propaganda is propaganda, delivered in person, through leaflets (like those HT assclowns used to do back in the day), publications, recorded speech tapes (yes, they were a hot item among sipah e sahaba types in Pakistan), or now youtube videos.
sources of meterial dont just aid in inlfluencing ppl but serve as a gathering point or recruitment channel.
less dumb..more shrewd..same difference..there is plenty of dodgy material by muslims on youtube as well, but it does not cross the line so it stays.
The videos on media (not just AL-Awlaki's) do play a role in creating stereotypes about an issue or group or person. As for brainwashing, actually it has potential of brainwashing, never underestimate human stupidity (religion does not matter here).
Most non-Muslims in Europe and "west" do not have exposure to Islam or Islamic societies. Their interaction with muslims in limited, and religion is not discussed as it is rightly perceived as private matter. The most logical thing for them would be to study Islam and seek reliable and unbiased sources for deeper knowledge. Some people DO study Islam but masses would go what media presents them, some go a step further and look on internet for Islamic scholars.
The problem is that on cloud, people like Al-Awlaki are the loudest voices "defending" Islam. Whatever poison people like Geert pour in people's mind, there are people like Al-Awlaki to validate all their rubbish!. For common Joe here, THAT is the "real" Islam, as an Islamic scholar is promoting hatred.
It's same if it's otherway around. If Reverend Wilder was quoting old testament out of context IN Pakistan/India/ME, it would have created the same perception about Christianity.
