Youth Program Development Coordinator - Plainfield, Indiana, U.S.A.

Job Status: Full-Time

Purpose: The Youth Program Development Coordinator will develop a program of activities and services, in cooperation with ISNA leadership primarily for Muslim Youth ages 12-18 that will promote the growth of Islamic personality and Islamic identity.

Is able to effectively communicate with both youth and adults, and has good communication (written and oral), organizational, and planning skills
Is able to create, develop, plan, direct, administer and implement ISNA youth programs according to the needs of the youth
Is able to select and train youth volunteers as well as volunteers working with youth
Is knowledgeable about Islamic principles, beliefs, and etiquette

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: At least a Bachelors degree from an accredited college. 2-4 years work experience in an Islamic community and/or youth development setting. This requirement can be waived based upon the applicant’s special qualifications and demonstrated passion for youth work

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Create new youth programs that would involve and motivate youth to become actively involved in Islamic and American life at local, regional or national levels
Develop and oversee programs which will include opportunities for worship, Islamic study, service projects, study trips, and social activities
Develop material, train, and coordinate a team of volunteer leaders for each age group, and plan and facilitate (or equip others to facilitate) youth group meetings
Work with ISNA committees on multiples levels to tackle issues related to youth
Develop a work plan for the entire year, including summer programs, camps, and retreats, and maintain a calendar of events
Work with and for youth, their parents, acting as liaison between the youth and their parents and imams and community leaders when and if necessary for youth programs and activities. Regularly communicate with and seek input from youth and parents regarding the direction, goals, and activities of youth work
Network with other local, regional and national youth-related organizations and youth workers
Refer youth to opportunities for service throughout the year at local regional and national levels in the Muslim and non-Muslim community
Participate fully in worship and other Islamic activities at the ISNA Headquarters.
Participate and administer youth programming in all national activities and attend regional and local activities according to approved work plan
Create a list of resource people (professional Muslim counselors, imams, etc.) to counsel young people, parents and families with special needs. Refer youth with particular needs, i.e., delinquent, alienated, drug dependent, runaway, etc.; to professional counselors and imams
Create a list of resources for the youth leaders and advisors to include books, periodicals on youth culture and youth development, videos, cassettes, files with relevant information
Have an understanding of Islamic Arts and Entertainment and coordinate such sessions at ISNA related events
Establish working relationships with Muslim artists, entertainers, and organizations promoting Muslim artists
Appropriate a sufficient amount of time to personal worship and study about Islam and about youth that will ensure healthy, mature and vibrant youth work.
